I tried this challenge one year ago and it was a failure, but a lot can change in a year. The fact that a skip was discovered exactly at the part where this challenge ended last time is just perfect, so I had to try it again. This video is a lot more complete as a result, glad to have this monkey off my back!

@@DatHughJass you have to keep calling Campbell until he says "Is there some reason you cant use the second controller?" - then he says you can try blowing up (or shooting, IDR) the two statues. You have to shoot a Nikita middle into the room blowing up the statues then you can continue as if you were fighting him with the second controller port

@@DatHughJass I believe you have to die to him first, then continue and go back into the room again. Because otherwise, those statues aren't breakable, with any weapon. Well, I think from my memory, you do not have control of Snake any time he is on a ladder. He just climbs to the top or bottom in a mini cut scene. And he already said cut scenes dont count because you dont control Snake. So no steps as far as the ladder goes. Now if you actually crawled up or down manually maybe it can be questionable. But you dont. You just push Triangle in front of a ladder.

I'd say the shuffling along the ledge in the furnace room does not violate the spirit of the challenge. A challenge run should not make finishing the game impossible, merely add additional challenges to the game. I'd go so far as to say that simply pushing the directional button should have sufficed. There is no point to an impossible challenge run, aside from seeing how far you can get before the run dies, and that may be fun to some.

I personally believe that if there is any way to stay true to the challenge at difficult points, even if it requires insane skips or glitches, then you gotta do it. But if it's absolutely impossible at certain points where you absolutely have to break the rule, then it shouldn't count against you.

I made SO MANY mistakes on my first passthrough of MGS. You're gonna laugh and it's okay. 1. I did the electric torture 5-6x before realizing I needed to use the ketchup or hide under the bed to draw the guards attention. 2. Did the Sniper Fox fights WITHOUT Diazepam. 3. Fought Metal Gear WITHOUT using chaff grenades to mess up it's radar. Easily added a hour of unnecessary difficulty to the game. But damn was it rewarding.

There were many brilliant snipers before and after him, But Carlos is one of my all time favorites because of how eccentric and brilliant he is. Gives me the same feeling as when i was bought MGS for christmas when I was 8 or 9… before I was gifted it I’d read the strategy guide that came with a playstation magazine over and over again, obsessed. When I finally played the game I skipped all the cutscenes, had no idea what was going on & only thanks to that guide had any real idea where to go (didn’t help that I no longer had that guide by the time I got the game). I finally completed it with likely over 100 alerts & wussed out on the torture sequence so I got the stealth camo in the end. Then I could finally play it my way. Thinking back to it, I get the same sense of enjoyable frustration that this challenge gives me and it just makes me smile, cheers man you’re pretty good Tl;dr: subbed

How the hell is he going to beat the Ninja? 3. How is he going to deal with the wall shimmy in the crane area? Ok so the wall shimmy is pretty much impossible. But you had a good try. Thank you, it would be crazy if you're right! I tried to advertise elsewhere, but so far the KZbin algorithm has helped with this video more than I have. Either that or someone shared it some where I 😊

Well I had to fail first in order to succeed, I tried this a year ago before Boba Skip was discovered. That first attempt took 2 weeks total to record, voice and edit, but it only got up to the Comms Tower. This time I'd say it took a month, with me working on it 3 or 4 evenings a week (to fit around work and family) but I had more prior knowledge and research going into it this time. I spent a lot of time in the Blast Furnace (days) looking for anything else to skip that cat walk, but I found nothing useful.

I think shuffling along side a scripted wall slide should fall into the same category as ladders, depending on the game, it might be avoidable, but it's not the same as walking normally
@c.m.9369

The cat walk shuffle is fine in my book. It‘s not any more „walking“ or „taking a step“ than the punch-shuffle.

I would say it is a legit strategy for sure :) if it isn't is single punching also steping? xD I loved the video, Very impressive!
@NGPlusVideos

The main reason that single punches were considered ok is because there is usually always a noise with each step, but that noise doesn't happen with punches. Thanks a lot, appreciate it

Regarding the blast furnace section, if the No Steps is based on Snake's animation and not a d-pad input while standing up that results in movement, wouldn't you be able to run around the map since the beginning by quickly tapping the d-pad to make snake move around with interrupted animation that doesn't result in him landing a foot on the ground?

Although it's a great game and one of my favorites I only finished it 3 times and of course without considering doing the run in prone cuz it's would be impossible or at least possible on some areas with carefully planning your moves and a lot of time. But you proved that as they say "where there is a will there is way" and done the impossible. Congrats ,a really great video , loved your commentary as well and the effort you put and can't wait to see you next video!!
