Can You Beat Pokémon Fire Red Using Quad Weak Pokémon?

Quad Weak Pokémon aren't exactly ideal but in today's challenge, I'll be attempting to go through Pokémon Fire Red using only the worst typing options available. Basically, against Water-Types, we'll need Rock/Ground, Fire/Rock, Fire/Ground, etc. and so on. So, let's find out, "can you beat Pokémon Fire Red using quad weak Pokémon?" Thanks for watching!

It's funny how even though this posse was less permanent than other challenge crews (a literal revolving door of pokemon) I still felt attached to them and it seemed like they had their own personalities. Heracross, the fearless bird murderer. Parasect, the long-suffering backup/sacrificial bug. Aggron and Magneton, who carried the team through Giovanni. Aggron #2, always overshadowed by their predecessor. Scizor, who kills the fire dogs so Parasect doesn't have to (except when he does). Camerupt, the team's rock throughout the early game. Aron and Paras, poor innocent souls who really deserved better. Moltres, Celebi, and Articuno, who randomly appeared to crush a few weaklings in the early days of the run before vanishing. Golem, the team's tactical nuke. Kabutops, who trained his whole life for one battle, sat that battle out, and wound up putting his training towards random one offs instead. Gyarados, who survived the Surge fight badly injured and traumatized by the electrical deaths of his teammates and hopefully retired to Alola or something.

It got me thinking of a slightly different scenario, though, for a challenge that I imagine would be significantly harder: "can you beat Pokémon [pick your favourite] without using any super effective moves?". That was definitely a fascinating challenge, I'd love to see you attempt it again in other regions, particularly later on with more options available for your teams. As much as I love seeing Magcargo get some love in thumbnail (and he was fairly frequently used), I feel that Heracross vs. Pidgeot would have been more fitting. It shows off your most used Pokémon in this run, displays their ongoing rival and features your Horn Attack sponsorship deal! Fantastic video here; hearing just how many tries it takes you to defeat some of these opponents just reveals how much dedication and patience you have. I'd have gone insane from all the repetition after 4 or 5 goes, let alone the 30+ you do in some cases. There were a lot of good jokes and plenty of well described fights; with your fight against Giovanni being my personal favourite. That last match-up of Magneton vs. Nidoking was super exciting!

This is incredible. I cannot begrudge you for getting cheeky with the picks (such as with including legendaries and not choosing the worst possible choices for your roster) because it's a nigh impossible challenge as it is and the fact that you finished it at all is incredible. But one thing that seemed to drag things down was some instances where there was not a quad-effective choice, but the choice you made had an advantage over the opponent. Like Kadabra going up against Agatha's Haunter and having super-effective damage due to psychic vs. poison. Now I don't know if the challenge would have been possible if you didn't make those pics, but it feels a slight bit like cheating. Perhaps if it were a second resort after it literally being impossible to do at first. Could even be funny to see you make the roster moves when it proves undoable. Maybe something for if you do try in Gen 2. But really, great work in all.

A small criticism, but when facing a dual type you would choose a pokemon that has immunity or resistance to one of those types. For example, against Ryhdon you choose articuno. Which gives you immunity to ground moves. You could have chosen a pokemon that has quad weakness to ground in stead of to rock like electric/steel or steel/rock. Also choosing a legendary when other choices are available seems like cheating since most legendaries could solo run the game.
