@@Igorcastrochucre I haven't gotten far in the video, but the crit rate in gen 1 is relatively high, so over the course of a battle with several turns, you're pretty likely to get a crit or two. I'd say it's actually a good idea to spend a turn reducing your crit rate against a non-threatening pokemon.
@SemiHypercube3 жыл бұрын
@@fahkyew7776 It is high for most Pokemon because in gen 1 the critical hit rate was actually based off of the pokemon's base speed (BaseSpeed/512 for those wondering, 8x as likely if it's a high-crit move) so for example Hitmonlee's crit rate would be 87/512 or about 17%, for comparison the base crit rate in gen 2-6 is 6.25% and 4.167% from gen 7 onward. Also, notably if the pokemon has a base speed stat of at least 64, then if it uses a high-crit move (like Razor Leaf or Slash) it would almost (1/256 glitch strikes again) always be a critical hit...unless you used Focus Energy or a Dire Hit.

Great video, Jrose! Thanks. I was waiting a long time for this video, because I love Hitmonlee! It's my favorite fighting-type pokémon of the first generation. This pokémon is so nice that Game Freak has given it a good number of signature moves: "Rolling Kick", "Jump Kick" and "Hi Jump Kick". As far as I can recall, Hitmonlee is the pokémon with most signature moves, in the first generation. Since I'm a fan of signature moves, it's really hard for me to make him forget any of those three moves (even though "Hi Jump Kick" could be considered a more powerful "Jump Kick", I could never make him forget "Jump Kick"). Taking advantage of the "Seismic Toss" glitch for being able to hit ghost-type pokémon in the first generation games, my Hitmonlee's movepool would be his three signature moves mentioned + "Seismic Toss". Then, it would be able to hit any pokémon.

While for several Pokemon like: Tauros, Jolteon, Alakazam, Gengar, Mewtwo & Hitmonlee speed and critical hit rates having been tied together was great but it also sucked that getting a crit negated the attacker's stat boost was a potential issue. Great to see you again, as always. I think Bellsprout will make an interesting run. On the one hand, it gets a lot of fun tools like Growth, Razor Leaf, and Sleep Powder, and it gets them quite early. (In fact, it _starts_ with Growth). On the other hand, its offensive movepool is... bad. It doesn't even get Body Slam.
@Igorcastrochucre3 жыл бұрын
A combination of Sleep Powder + Growth + Mega Drain (because you don't want critical hits, so no Razor Leaf) is what gave Bulbasaur the advantage in the starters run. Fourth move would be either Double-Edge, Acid or Mimic. Only problem is: because it only has Vine Whip at the start, it's gonna need to set up Growth for anything that resists it like Pidgeotto or Bug-types, and its other attack, Wrap takes a while. The beginning is gonna be really slow.
@17Master3 жыл бұрын
Agatha Lottery will be absolutely brutal for Bellsprout, since its damage pool is only Grass, Poison and Normal. Rival fights will probably be difficult once he has Charizard since Bellsprout is so slow and Pidgeot will make setting up rough. Will be fun for us to watch, but poor Jrose.

I've done Bellsprout minimum battles myself, l the way up to the elite four. It's definitely possible, I'm not nearly as skilled as JRose though and I ended up giving up. I dont know where all the rare candies and ethers and stuff are. Agatha isn't as bad as you'd think. Bellsprout gets sleep powder, which is a necessity for the run. This means you can use sleep powder and mimic dream eater to basically two-shot the entire team. She can't do enough damage to win right away. The biggest problems were Lance and Lorelei. Lorelei doesn't one-shot with anything, so she's mostly safe. The problem is, she has a chance to freeze. And I kept. Getting. Frozen. With Lance, the problem is Gyrados. You can set up and sweep on the dragonair, as the poison typing messes with his AI. But you have to deal with Gyrados first. As long as he doesn't use hyperbeam, taking him down is as simple as putting him asleep. But he kept. Using. Hyperbeam. The early game has a few rough battles. The first bug catcher, for example, is the worst fight in the game and took me ~10 attempts. It's completely RNG. But, it is most certainly possible. The run gets easy after Mt. Moon, for the most part. As long as you have sleep powder that is. It's a bit of a luck based pokemon, but is also pretty strong ngl.

My weekend sucked, but seeing you upload another video me smile and made the start of the week better.

I wanna see the middle form starters next. Wartortle, Charmeleon and Ivysaur.

I wanna think those are going to be the very last ones, so: 51: Charmeleon. 52: Wartortle. 53: Ivysaur.

I remember as a kid getting hitmonlee as my main and using action replay codes to be able to teach moves to any pokémon and making his story that he was the only hitmonlee that can use thunderbolt lol

I really enjoy these videos. Been a viewer since your top 10 days and it's always great to see you do these challenges as well as enjoying other things like your speed runs of nom-pokemon games

This was a hell of a run. My favorite little kickin' McNugget dude did great. You cleared the Elite Four at a surprisingly low level despite the largely bland movepool. A few more levels and some RNG would be avoided on Agatha as well (you looked close to a 2HKO on Haunter, for instance), which is interesting.

He's using Seismic Toss to attack the ghost Pokémon which deals damage equal to your level so there's no RNG involved in this instance.

@@TomOakleyUK Hence the words “a few more levels”. The RNG is for moves hitting in return, like fewer hypnosis / confuse ray hits.

Glad to see you're back Jrose! I have a hard time sleeping, but with your videos I can just let them play in the background. my mind needs something to focus on a bit, so my anxiety doesn't keep me awake. These videos help fill that by being something so familiar (pokemon) my mind can go on auto pilot and settle down. Thank you so much for sticking with these videos! I can't wait for the next one!

Absolute highlight of my night. Feels like old times after a really, really rough month. Hitmonlee with all the Fighting moves did well but seems to have fallen about where you would expect it. All that's left is Poliwrath and the Machop line for Fighting if I recall? It's always a pleasure to see you streaming Mario and YouTubing Pokemon. Hope you are well :3
