If memory serves me right, Grant had a clause for certain missions that could not be completed without losses (I think it mostly applied to allies though). I think you should have a clause for the sappers in mission 10 too, where as long as you use as few as you can get away with, it's fine. Just my two cents!

Yeah, Grant had rules that if deaths were unavoidable (like with the sappers), then they dont count. Gotta bend the rules a bit with challenges like this :D

@@SvendleBerries That being said, he only did that after he tried pretty much EVERYTHING, so the suffering is not optional. See him CALCULATING the final terran mission. (Dont remember if that was deathless or Marines only tho)

Hey, thanks for a nice run and great taste in memes! Deathless orc run sounds like a nightmare. You can't heal your units, so eventually you'll be stuck with half your army consisting of ogres with red hp, taking your supply and being useless. I would probably go with troll berserkers just because of their regeneration ability.

Interesting tactics, especially the one on how to avoid polymorph! On a side note, the campaigns themselves are standalone and are not continuations of the other one. In the human campaign, you have do drive the invading orcs back to the dark portal, while in the orc campaign you are, as you said, the invading force pushing the humans to the brink of extinction. Some of the missions are mirrored, as you correctly identified. GG WP!

I plain forgot the ogre magi have the Runes ability since Bloodlust is the main reason to build them, but wow, Runes really saved the run on mission 11. As to the sappers in mission 10, I still count this run as complete since it was flat out taken out of your hands and physically impossible to beat otherwise. We can pretend the sappers planted their bombs and went on to retirement in the mountains.

Something you didnt mention on either WC2 runs regarding Submarines They can be destroyed without an air unit, Battleships and Juggernauts have the "attack ground" command, and if you can see where the enemy torpedo is coming from (be mindful of their range of 4), you can attack ground and ohko them even with unupgraded ships

You are absolutely right! On casual plays ill utilize this feature if missing a chopper but forgot to mention it, luckily didnt have too many dicey situations with subs. I do love me some WC2. Nostalgia here, my dad got this game for himself but I played a lot of it when I was around 10 years old too. No way in hell I beat it without cheats at that age but the music and sound effects are ground into my head as formational memories

Warcraft 2 challenge runs, never thought I'd see the day! The art style and music of that game is such a treat, even if the gameplay is dated. Still, it's at least much more playable than Warcraft 1. It is wild how much improvement was crammed into just over a year. We go from having to select commands on the side bar before clikcing, only having a max select of 4 units, low resolution sprites, and low quality music... To right clicks being enabled, attack move, 9 unit selection, and good iconic spriteworks and nice clean music.

hello, nice play. i myself also played similar chalenge. but i played not only without deaths but even without receiving any damage. and yes i beaten all original orc missions like this exept last mission 14 i beatened them without receiving even 1 damage by any of my units. also about mission 10 with sappers - i beaten this too without single damage, but this happened because sappers when they blow up they DO NOT deal damage to themselves, they just die by script, so it was allowed in my chalenge. i can say this 100% sure about sappers cuz i saw it directly in source code of the game😁 unfortunately i wasnt able to beaten mission 14 yet, and also some human missions like mission 13 is impossible cuz u have 3 knights that will get damage from the start og game no matter what, BUT they still can run away and be saved though🙃

@@Admiral_Iddy most of strats depended on taking enemy over with starting army because if u spend time building anyting, enemy also building units and attack you. main strat was to not allow enemy to attack entirely, fastest way possible to kill peons/interrupt resources, also for water maps mostly was only needed to kill transport to stop comps from doing anyting for some time and get more time for myself. also i used special microcontrol techiques that allows any of 2 melee low tier units to kill high tier units without getting damage. for example 2 peons can kill ogre with right microcontrol and without any hit from ogre. And if AI not running to attack me, any permanently standing still units can be lured out and killed 1 by 1. so with this metod even 2 peons can kill unlimited amout of ogres. also was many save loads, like thousands reloads in one mission😁 most pain was caused by archers and towers cuz u cannot dodge their attacks, so they was taken of with ballistas or pack of my archers. also i not only received any damage on my movable units, but also not received damage on any buildings, because buildings in this game is units too. so my strats wasnt able to use towers🙃

Warcraft 2 is still the best part of the whole series. The story was so much better than all this strange stuff the put in in WC3. Your words on the intro when you describe the difference between campaigns is also a good example for the in point storytelling. Humans are defending their lands, the orcs are invading them.

Seeing these challenge runs for one of my favorite games is beyond cool! The only thing I just have to comment on: orc invasion on Tol Barad is happening before the mirror mission in alliance campaign. And blizzard went for "kinda continuity" back then - you see blackrock orcs invading right from the start and has to repel the invasion. Of course they don't invade with the exact units you used in orc mission. At least because you don't even required to play orc campaign prior to that.

@3:30 - Warcraft 2 only predates Red Alert by a year, and Red Alert has a persistent campaign map. Everything you or the Soviet AI build on Allied 2 returns in an expanded map for Allied 4 - so if you're clever and know about this, you can pull shenanigans aplenty with buildings pre-placed to stop their advances or even give you a ready path to steal a Soviet war factory and get better tanks. This is also used again in the secret ant missions in RA's first expansion.

Funny thing about level 9, because the objective is more nuanced than "kill guys" my father who loved this game could not beat this stage since he never knew what to do since he doesn't know english, I had to come back later once I knew english to properly finish the level

That's how I tried playing this game as a kid, but I always gave up at the last Alliance mission, way too many losses upfront, with lots more while trying to establish a base. I still beat it, but not deathless.

Never thought I'd learn about Russian battleships from a Warcraft 2 video haha. Back in the later half of the 90s we were playing it in high school. I remember a guy getting mad to me having a lot of stuff and accusing me of cheating lol. WC2 is so great to have navy too, WC3 couldn't deliver it and also turned fighting system into something incomprehensible to me.

Did you use an Eye of Kilrog and it died? Run failed! JK, but I think units like Sappers are exempt for the rule because they are purposefully sacrifice units. They only count if killed before they explode!

I never use eye of kilrog even casually so no worries on deaths there 😉 yeah it was a dam shame they force me to use it, but the enemy didnt kill them so i think the rule can slide

So with your mention of wanting to face the base you built already and it being beyond the tech of the time. Well less than a year later, Red Alert 1 does have a mission where you revisit your old base. Whatever you had in the second Allied mission you'll have when you revisit the area in the fourth Allied mission. A one off example but proof the tech may not have been that far off.

Missions like the one you have to blow up the sappers to even really start the mission. I do not count that as unit lost, as it has mandatory losses. Same goes for when allies gets killed at a 100% of the time, they should not count as well, there is no way to prevent them.

I love these games and I hate the massive amount of retcon that happened with WoW. The only good change was Lothar fell in the Battle of Blackrock Spire agsinst Doomhammer and not that stupid parley mission.

The game forced your hand on mission 10. In my opinion, the mission did not start until you are past that sapper tutorial. If you go by that standard then yes, you can beat every mission without losing a unit.
