This entire video is just an ad for that one practice pad. I just wanted to know what I needed to practice.

I learned how to play and get coordinated mainly by tapping my hands and feet along with everything possible. And when I was little, I'd sit on the floor (carpet) and use a wrench and screwdriver because I wasn't allowed to have drums. I developed my timing and coordination mostly tapping my hands and feet and when i finally got to play on a set, since i always air drummed using the correct positioning of the drums, i could already play. And when i finally got my own set, I practiced playing along with everything on the radio and albums as much as possible. I never had a practice pad, but I did use a phone book for a while but rarely. A practice pad is good for building up your weak hand and wrist, while watching TV. Try to get to the point that you can do the same thing with both hands easily and without fatigue for long periods of time.

I've been playing drum set for about 2 years but didn't really get into till couple months ago and your videos help me with small things that I can change that helps me get better. Thank you

Well, only playing on a pad will teach you how to do great snare work. And that's wonderful you need that. However it does nothing to teach you 4-way independence. So practice on a pad with a metronome (teaching a drummer how to stay on time) then go to your kit and get the rest of your body involved! :-)

Try on the official site rather than Amazon. Or if there is any Amazon that is closer to you. For exemple if you live in Portugal it's better to buy from Amazon es than us

I got the prologix 3 in 1 Russ Miller pad which is similar (and bigger). I love it. I think the new version has 4 surfaces (a very hard / marching one in the bottom). I also recommend it.

Which has the more rebound: the harder rubber or the softer rubber?

I might want a rougher surface on one side of the laminate for brushes. I have a 14" pad that I might stay with for that.
@JoelKreider6 жыл бұрын
johnnystaccata ... I thought about brushes as well. An old head could be cut to fit inside the rim though.
@ChrisKeeper295 жыл бұрын
Anyone have the extra rubber part they give you? I accidentally got the 3 in 1 instead and it gave me the laminate but not the chops one. Is there another way I can get it? :/
@boblobgobstopper132144 жыл бұрын
I have never played on this pad so take my comment with a grain of salt but putting a towel on the soft rubber side or practicing on a mouse pad instead could give a similar rebound
@habanerat6 жыл бұрын
The Drumeo P4 does the same thing (minus the rim shot) at the same cost and without having to change out different surfaces and also may help to build fluidity between the different surfaces since they are side by side. Just a thought : )
@davidbcg2866 жыл бұрын
habanerat what I’ve read from the Drumeo pad is that the different surfaces have a similar rebound. I saw that comment in many reviews online. Different noise, but very similar rebound.

The hard thing is to know what to practice on the pad, and how much time to spend, and how to apply it to the set. For me the pad and the drum set have always been two different things. Up to recent years I've come across drummers that master the connection between pad and drums. I've seen the good use of the pad. I definately suck at the pad and I can't do any cool flashy chops and fills, even after 30 years of drumming.
@gaboogablah6 жыл бұрын
PezrulezHaakon the pad isn't for applying to the set, its for building endurance and your weak hand /wrist to equal your dominant hand /wrist.
@PezrulezHaakon6 жыл бұрын
gaboogablah Yes, I did get that back in the days. But I'm talking about learning a rudiment on the pad and apply that on the set. And f.e orchestrate accents on different voices, or making tons of different variations. That is what I didn't get back then. I didn't see the pad as a help for my drumming, but just for learning rudiments in a boring way.
@gaboogablah6 жыл бұрын
PezrulezHaakon really there's only 3 rudiments you need, and you can get by your entire life without having to practice rudiments and still be a good working drummer. The most import thing is timing, not speed. Many famous drummers and bands use simple beats and not fast extravagant or flamboyant players. Steady, slow, precise will be better than fast and sloppy.
@MrC1utch3376 жыл бұрын
I’ve been playing drums for years now and I can never increase speed in my right foot. I get up to playing 8th notes in tempos like 170 bpm but I always seem to lose rhythm after a week or two and not even be able to play 8th notes at say, 140 bpm. This is a huge problem for me since I’ve been practicing very heavily on my feet for about 5 years now. I can’t help but think that maybe there’s something wrong I’m doing? Another thing that I’ve never heard of from anyone else is how my left foot can play a lot faster than my right, which is weird because I’m right handed, footed. Any advice on this?

When I saw the title for the video I was thinking, "No, you cannot become a better drummer only practicing on a pad." But based on what you showed us, it looks like a great way to get some good practicing in, especially if you can't use your kit. Nice job. Nice video.

George Meade if he needs sponsor money then he should have done a seperate sponsor spot. Talking about pads is great, talking about one single pad like it’s the best pad in the world whilst also being paid to do so is a shameless ad. Should have gotten a whole bunch of pads and talked about the pros and cons of each

If you get metal drumsticks and practice on a pad it only improves consistency and strength and dramatically decreases sloppiness around the kit
@justadrummer19546 жыл бұрын
I Hate PT Cruisers if you get metal drumsticks and practice on a pad your gonna mess your wrists up. Those should only be used on a pillow. Practice pads are for stick control. If you can pretend it works for you than right on But this is a disguised commercial and you know it.

Clayton Murry I’ve been doing it since I was nine years old and so have my teachers and teachers before them....pretty sure it works but hey at least I’ll be a good drummer in the end!

I commented on an earlier video this guy made. If you want to build your hands practice on a real snare with brushes. My drum teacher studied with Alan Dawson. One of the things Dawson did was have students practice witk brushes. It forces you to use the upstroke with your wrists because you cant depend on the rebound. I see all these people making videos on drum technique and I think it is more about them earning an income then teaching proper technique. If you want to learn the right way watch videos by true master teachers like Alan Dawson, Gary Chaffee, Ed Soph, John Ramsey, and most importantly Joe Morello. They reputations are sterling and they have been around far longer than some kid in his moms basement trying to make a buck.
