Hey Lorna thanks for the mention - we are still the only lender financing liveaboards. Our customers do not need a residential mooring, they can continuous cruise, marina mooring or residential if available. We are still really busy. Hope you are well.

Thanks for your lovely comments. This was filmed in October or November. I’ll be using a lot of prerecorded footage until I’m feeling better

Went up to Kings Cross and visited the London Canel Museum a few weeks ago. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and was invited to sit in on a talk about the history of the ice trade and the history of ice cream making. Very informative and enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Oh, Lorna! I watch all your vlogs, although I haven’t communicated with you much, but nevertheless, after I saw your vlog about having Covid, I’ve been so worried about you! I’m sure there were many viewers who would join me in this. I only wish I had known how to let you know you were being thought of fondly and often, by many, in the hopes of you not feeling alone in your illness. How wonderful to see you looking so much better!

Very interesting. I won't ever be buying a boat now due to disability but I find the thought of it all to be fascinating.

Would that mortgage firm demand a specific kind of insurance aswell as the property they "own" is moving around the canals?
@lornajaneadventures3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure, but I think that’s likely. Also they generally only lend on inland boats and not seagoing vessels in case you sail away with your debt
@promarinefinance58493 жыл бұрын
Marine Mortgage insurance is provided by specialist insurers.

Firstly, glad to see you on the mend. With luck you won't have too long to wait before your age group gets invited for a vaccination. Who knows, vaccinations might even work! Had mine ages ago and no ill effects thus far. Fortunately being a live aboard on an "isolated" arm has its advantages, so live on a sort of permanent self isolation anyway. Money and boats. Absolute minefield from your description ... presume subtext was "do your research first, second and third". And then do some more. Would suggest too that anyone buying a boat should have a contingency fund in case of engine/gearbox disaster and for hull replating if required a year or three down the line. This is in addition to having to pay for survey which mortgage outfit would insist on anyway. Plus getting boat out and back in again. That could be £1000 upfront ... and if surveyor is happy. And if boat is out for survey then might as well get hull blacked if necessary, plus new anodes. Would suggest you would be wise to allow £2000 to get boat out, scraped, surveyed, new anodes, blacked, back in before you cruise off. And on top of that £1000 for license (60ft boat) and possibly £200 for insurance. Possibly another £150 odd for BBS exam if necessary. Not forgetting a full service ... £200? And perhaps £200 for breakdown service. (But read up on T&C's first.) In short would suggest a sum of around £8000 for up front costs and a contingency fund. Marine engines and engineering not cheap. And that's on top of the deposit and any legal fees. As you very carefully and wisely pointed out having a boat can cost you more per month that a mortgage ... depending on the property of course. If you're not going to live on a boat all year round then it might be worth a squint at very long term hires. Suspect hire companies would be quite happy when "times is hard" and not so keen when they have more business lined up than they have boats. Anyway good info for them as wants a boat to consider first ... second ... and third.

Dear Lorna, what do you think a single woman continues cruising? I mean a safety wise ( I am thinking buying a narrowboat) Can you cruise withing two moorings in a month or longer? Isn't 14 days the lengthy of time you are allowed to spend for free in a Mooring zone? How far from one other does the two mooring have to be? How long does it take to travel in 6 mile distance for a narrowboat? Sorry, I am asking too many questions... Thank you for this particular Vlog you shared with us... Have a lovely day!!!
@lornajaneadventures3 жыл бұрын
I’d say connect with some people online and in person. If you don’t know an area, ask other boaters about it or check it out first. If you continuously cruise, you can stay in most places for 14 days then you need to move to a new town, usually at least one mile away and cover at least 20 miles in one direction over a year. Moor near roads or bridges, introduce yourself to your neighbours and if something doesn’t feel safe, trust your instincts. Be careful who you tell that you live alone. A lot of people cruise in groups with other boats so they can look out for each other
