Greetings from Brazil, Paul! I'm not surprised you reached 100k, I'm surprised you don't have more already! All I Said to my friends when I found your channel is "i've just found the best handmade fishing tackle channel on KZbin" And all of them agreed. I've been here for a long time and will be here till the end, friend. Carry on with the channel, thanks for all the help

Great video Paul, Great name too 😉 My First ever fresh water fish was a Rudd on a bare hook that I made out of a piece of chicken wire, some line I found at the edge of the bank and by hand off a small jetty during my School lunch break when I was just eight years old. My School mates wouldn't share hooks, line or bread so I improvised. I shined up the wire on a stone and when I seen it disappear under the water around 18" deep I knew it was in a fishes mouth so I lifted it out. My School friends were rather surprised and to be honest so was I. I only caught one because it was time to go back to School. This got me started on many fishing adventures. I've also caught seven Mackerel on a six hook feather trace from my dads fishing boat when I wasn't much older, a small Mackerel that took the hook was also taken by a large Mackerel and couldn't release itself before I had them all in the boat 🙂 Filling and reeling in loaded traces full of Mackerel was hard work at that age 😆 Just though I'd share some Childhood Fishing memories 👍

Come on people, out of 100 000+ subscribers, how are there only 21 people who are willing to give Paul even $1 for the enjoyment that they get out of watching each new video? I know I get more than a dollar's worth of entertainment from his efforts.

Lucky guy to have such a considerate and thoughtful wife. The fishing bit was excellent, but your story about your wife getting you camera equipment was really touching.

Very nicely made video! I like you great passion that goes into all of your videos. I just feel that you're really doing what you like, not doing things so you get easily famous on KZbin. It's the passion in a video that makes it attractive to me! To the mackerel hooks: An old Swedish woman once told me that the men would use a line with eight hooks (called hekla) but no bait and still catch multiple mackerels in one go
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman7 жыл бұрын
I think if i would of used more hooks I would of been a bit more successful but I was really cutting down my odds, I did think about making a hook from some bone, it may happen. Thanks for taking the time comment

I was night fishing at a lake. Before I leave I like to cast out as far as I can without bait and reel in slow so I can get rid of as much line twist as I can. I had the hook on the tip of the line, and a slip sinker with a bead for a stop. I did that and I hooked an unknown kind of fish with just the bare hook. I don't think I snagged it, but I may have. The fish put up a short fight. Anyway to make a long story short, I lost the fish and reeled in. I was using a thin hook about #6 size (U.S. measurement), the shank was long and it had a straightline eye.

In Devon they use Blue Aberdeen bare hooks to catch Mackerel. I went out on a charter boat from there and watched in amazement as the skipper was catching full strings of Mackerel on these bare hooks. No kidding in the space of 10 minutes he had enough Mackerel for the whole days bait needs. I bought some bright blue hooks from China and have ever since made up bare hook Mackerel Traces and used them out of various ports along the English Channel. They have worked everywhere I have used them. Give it a try buddy....

I have personally caught mackerel on bare hooks quite a few time. They were in frenzy and they are a different species, the slimy or blue mackerel
