The faster reaction time in the studio probably had less to do with the bright lights and more to do with the sound. You can hear the strobes firing in the studio, but you won't hear the rifle shot before the bullet arrives. The neural pathway for sound processing is much shorter than that for visual processing, so you react faster to sounds than you do to lights.
@lancehelix3 жыл бұрын
Sound speed faster than light speed?
@mwsletten3 жыл бұрын
@@lancehelix Read my comment again. It has to do with human reaction time, not the relative speeds of sound and light. Visual processing takes a great deal more brain power than aural processing, so it takes longer.

Yea but you can deflect bullets. It’s impossible to dodge with sniper, not handgun or arm fire or long distance shotgun.
@alienator46842 жыл бұрын
@@dale7326 That’s not true. To deflect a bullet you’d have to have the right material and a fast enough reaction time to put the material in the bullets direction fast enough, which definitely isn’t happening. Unless of course the thing you’re using the deflect is already in the path of the bullet and you don’t have to move at all. Also dodging a bullet from a handgun or “arm fire” (whatever that is), or a shotgun is impossible as well.
@jamesdick25802 жыл бұрын
looks cool and all but reality.....there's absolutely no way someone is going to see the muzzle flash of a sniper's rifle. sniper would be WAY too far away, (not a mere 200 yards away) and extremely well hidden. unless...you're another sniper who's doing counter-sniper ops. and even then, i doubt it would be likely that seeing a muzzle flash would happen too often. snipers typically operate between 600 - 1200 meters away, but are capable of operating from a couple of miles away.

It is possible to dodge a bullet. You're just doing it differently. In movies, people shoot up close. No mate you're in the right place but you're a little wrong, bullets travel faster than sound but bullets aren't anywhere near the speed of light. If that bullet went at light speed, which is impossible anyway, as matter can't travel at light speed, it'd be virtually a 0% chance of dodging. Not even if you're superhuman, as light can go around the earth 8 times in one second.

It's impossible for a human to react under 0.1 seconds. If they do, they aren't reacting. In the 100m race, its a false start for anyone who sets off under 0.1secs. The same in F1 - its a jump start. So no, its impossible to dodge a bullet unless the person who is firing the gun is at such a distance away from the target that it takes longer than 0.1 secs for the bullet to reach them, also the target must obviously know they are being targeted to be able to react!

My dad works for the government and soldiers trained in Black Ops are able to have lightning reflexes. How fast is that? They would have been able to dodge the first paintball in the first test. How's that possible? Adrenaline. After extensive training by being able to release huge amounts of adrenaline at will, it's as if time really slows down. It's literally "Spider-Sense". You see the bullet coming slow enough to dodge at that range. But that's not the end of training. Soldiers are also trained hard to have their bodies immediately and automatically release large amounts of adrenaline at the 'sound' of a bullet. It essentially becomes a trigger for their body. For comparison sake, how fast and sudden can you react from someone calling your name? Can you imagine your body automatically triggering the response to listen just within the first syllable? And while there are other people talking, do you find you can single out your name clearly amongst the crowd when your name is called? It's the same concept. Amazing what the mind can do!

they failed on two things 1-bullet dodging perse is relatively easy using things like predictions,they are using long range bullet which of course eliminate that,with close quarter combats or cqc,a handgun for example its not that accurate on a moving target,not even stationary if he moves the second the trigger is pulled 2-in japanese martial arts,they use this stance called ukemi,in wich you stand putting 1 foot behind the other,minimizing your hit spot as much as you can,in theory,if you predict the moment the trigger(a handgun)is pulled and you make a side step(50cm)from your original position,the straight bullet will miss to hit you the basic nature of dodgin implies you to at least seeing it coming,in cqc of course if possible,as long as you have precision and a nerve of steel,things people dedicate lifetimes to master

Ukemi is for rolling. Maybe you mean "hanmi" ? Another usefull thing is "ukimi" which could make the movement faster (not pushing the ground with the feet)

+Philippe Larcher. dood but...you get the idea right? i mean there's some science to be done there and they didn't depicted that scenario where a "skilled" person try to dodge a bullet by using those techniques

I was thinking about it all along the video :) (especially the slow mo when you see he's jumping instead of "falling", but they improved over time)
@LonelyStardefender8 жыл бұрын
+Philippe Larcher im eant hey have to note that,long distance and short distance guns travel in a curved straight line so if the target reduces itself to its minimal size posible(hanmi) and then do a quick side step the second the bullet is fired,there's a great chance he dodge it,mostly because of its trajectory...

One thing is reflexes. Which has been demonstrated as above. Second thing is senses. Some animals knows someone is around that gives them a caution state is dodge. Which here, you knew to dodge a bullet, but in a normal state or reality, we humans are definitely unable to dodge one because we're too busy to think or do something else. While animals only have 2 to 3 things to do in their daily lives.

I really hope this gets a reply because I just thought of this but when seeing pistols being shot from like 400-500 yards it takes a second or few to hear the metal ping but is that because the sound takes a while to travel back to you or because it take the bullet a second or two to hit the target?

"given that the quickest human reaction result was 490 milliseconds..." You've got to be kidding me... Grab any gamer who plays a FPS and I guarantee their reaction time is a lot faster than half a second.

Flatline365rulz I agree 490 milliseconds is about double the average reaction time I definitely have better reactions than him with mine being at 228 milliseconds
@ForwardSynthesis7 жыл бұрын
Respectfully, I think you're both forgetting something. Reaction time tests are not just about how quick your brain realizes what's happening but how quick your movement is afterwards. The average reaction time figure that gets quoted a lot is based on tests (which you can do online) where you see a light and then click on your mouse, whereas in this case you're not just adding on the extremely tiny amount of time it takes your finger to move to the nerve impulses, but instead adding on the time it takes to move a whole body out of the way enough to escape. If Jamie or Adam did one of those standard online tests they'd probably do similarly to other people I'd guess, but with the dodging a bullet test, they have to move their whole body instead of just their finger so it inherently takes more time. That said, it is true that if you got someone athletic they would be able to jump out of the way quicker even though their nerve impulses would be more or less moving at a similar speed. FPS pro-gamers will have faster reactions than regular people, but you'd be surprised by how little (most of the difference is skill, knowing what to do, timing etc) the increase is. There is sort of a biological ceiling for reaction times that's considered to be around 100ms. IIRC the eye to brain pathway alone takes 50ms. Some innate reflexes go to the spinal cord instead of the brain, and you can go down to 40ms for the complete circuit, but that's about it, and reflexes aren't the same as choice based reactions. A small creature like a fly has much shorter distances to send nerve impulses over, but unfortunately would never know when the bullet was coming. If we could somehow make an intelligent mutant fly then it might be able to dodge a bullet lol.

Is it missing a shot or dodging a bullet
@bobbyhill41184 жыл бұрын
Some bullets travel at about the speed of sound so if you were to clap your hands and hear an echo off of a wall, the distance from there and back divided by the time it took for you to hear it would give you a good idea of about how much time you have to react to most pistol rounds. You still would most likely have about half a second to about 3/4ths of a second to move so you it wouldn’t impact you if you’re being shot at from a distance of about 35-40 yards. If you see a muzzle flash there’s a very small probability that you could do it but it would be pretty hard to do, but if you’re being targeted by a high velocity round coming from a rifle (7.62, .556, .223) it’s best to wear some sort of armor that can absorb the impact because you won’t see it and it’ll hit you. For most pistol rounds (.45 acp for an example) you’ll have a higher probability of dodging it at a distance if you see the muzzle flash. If you hear the sound of it firing it’s probable you’ve already been hit or the bullet missed you entirely due to the shooter’s terrible aim and for the first few seconds of being hit, you won’t be able to tell likely because you won’t feel it right away because of the adrenaline rush. So, best way to survive a gunshot wound is... wear body armor. Most people don’t shoot at long distances with pistols either so you’ll likely have almost no reaction time at a distance of 10 to 20 yards for most slower rounds traveling at the speed of sound. A high powered rifle round, it’s more like a laser beam that’s going to pass through you if nothing is in the way. Your best bet is to use suppressive fire against a person by using a gun and wearing body armor so their shots don’t hit you and give you a vital injury/kill you on the spot. Using soldier tactics such as slicing the pie by using cover that you have correctly deemed bulletproof will help you survive.

I think there are two ways to avoid a bullet: Watch where the barrel is aiming and dodge before the shot happens, or to predict when they will shoot and move away just before the shot is made. This video naively only took this one approach

i’ve read somewhere that you can maybe dodged the pistol close range if you can react fast enough right after you see the enemy’s finger move, just something but might work i guess
@kajixdn6 жыл бұрын
His best bet of dodging it is knowing that its gonna hit and trying to dodge it before he even knows when its shot, not exactly the best way to do it but going off of pure reaction time or even reflex alone won’t work so that at least gives you a better chance I’d say

I've seen some pitchers... Maybe people "dodging bullets" just duck when they notice someone prone, and they just happened to duck a split second before the person pulled the trigger.

A couple things. 1: at night you could easily see a round go off, this was in the bright of day. 2: the yournger a person the faster there reflexes and how fast they are. A 18 year old in the dark could probably dodge this from 400 yards no problem
@jamesdick25802 жыл бұрын
looks cool and all but reality.....there's absolutely no way someone is going to see the muzzle flash of a sniper's rifle. sniper would be WAY too far away, (not a mere 200 yards away) and extremely well hidden. unless...you're another sniper who's doing counter-sniper ops. and even then, i doubt it would be likely that seeing a muzzle flash would happen too often. snipers typically operate between 600 - 1200 meters away, but are capable of operating from a couple of miles away.

Muzzle velocities range from approximately 120 m/s (390 ft/s) to 370 m/s (1,200 ft/s). speed of sound in dry air at 20 °C = 343 m / s Light travels at a much higher speed, but our brain isn't fast enough to understand what's going on before it's too late. In a life threatening situation it could be a lot worse
