Can you fit a cord of firewood in a truck? Yes or No

A cord of firewood typically weighs between 2000 - 3000 lbs depending on moisture content and species. So need a 3/4 ton or 1-ton pickup to stay under maximum payload capacity. Maximum payload capacity is printed on the sticker on the driver door frame.

@@FlanaganHomestead Respectfully where are you getting your logic? The 1500 on GM and Dodge trucks (150 on Ford) refers to their payload capacity. This means you are suppose to subtract everything you add to gross vehicle weight. For instance, you are suppose to subtract yourself, bed covers, tool boxes etc from the payload capacity. So I don't know how a "newer Ram 1500 is rated at 3000 pounds". Also depending on what wood you are talking about they do typically weight between 2000-3000lbs if they are fully seasoned. We all know that most people never deliver seasoned firewood so it usually weighs over 4,000lbs easy. That means under most circumstances you are going to be overloaded with a half cord of firewood in the back of a 1500 pickup.

@@HexaFox Yeah...my F150 has a GVWR of 6100#, and it tips the scales (no driver, no tool box, 1/4 tanks) at 3900#. That's 2,200# MINUS driver, fuel and tools that can go towards cargo.

Thanks for the video. I was planning on getting a cord of seasoned wood just so I'm not trying to mess around with next years piles. I have a "heavy half' 1500 Ram, which is much beefier than the normal 1500. It has 4 door full crew cab and an 8 foot bed, so it's set up underneath more like a 2500. I wanted to make sure I could get a cord in one trip and your video math helped me out. Thanks from upstate NY!

Glad to hear it helped. A wet cord might be a bit heavy for a 1500, A dry cord it should be able to handle.

@@brucebannerman6848 max total weight is 5337 lbs. The 1500 model is very misleading with this particular truck, as it''s stance is more like a 2500. I have thrown a lot of wood in the back over the years but most of time it's stuff that I bucked, split and stacked myself so I never did the math for cords. Thanks for the response.

If you have a big enough bed and the right suspension of course you can get a cord of wood in a pick up truck.

Two small things, you didn't deduct for fenders when calling the box five feel wide, and a full cord puts you a lot over weight for a Ram,

Good points but I tried to keep the video quick so didn’t go into precise detail. The wheel wells do take away space, but I also measured at the narrowest point of sidewalls. I took into account these items and took a slight amount off the top. Also a dry cord of is estimated at 2 to 3000 pounds. A new 2500 Ram can hold 3990 so it easily can hold the weight, 3500 much more. Only on a 1500 would you be possibly pushing the limits.

I fit a cord in a shortbed! 05 f250 crew cab diesel, but takes almost 3.5 f.t high and rounded, damn people who post it can't fit don't sell firewood ir fall timber for a living

You forgot to include the space the wheel wells occupy, so an 8 foot bed 5 feet wide would have to have at least 3.5 feet high stack because of the wheel wells...not your 3.2 feet that you state in the video.

Thanks for checking my math but I actually added a fraction for that. The wheel wells don’t run full length and only take up 8 inches in height so overall doesn’t even add an inch

Is anyone else having a problem with this math? So there’s 221,200 cubic inches per cord of wood. If I were to multiply 48in x 72 x 38 as you stated, my calculator says 131,328. That’s nearly half of a cord?!

Thanks for watching but you didn’t listen well. The width of my truck bed at its narrowest point is 5 feet or 60 inches. A truck bed is 8 feet long or 96 inches. Times 38 inch height. 60x96x38=218880. The remaining inches would fill in the curves of the side rail. If that is not fair in you mind Ok I can add 1 inch to the top of the pile. Going 39 inches instead of 38 puts us well over the number.

You are stacking the wood in the truck. Most wood dealers don’t stack in their trucks. A half cord would not fit if the wood is just loaded in.
