TLDR and to stop people from getting scared and correcting some things; Yes its possible but its very very very very rare. Never run a random exe and you wont get a virus simple. BeamNG as far as I know cant do much of anything if a js file does not only do something in BeamNG. Now the msi file in that R32 mod is very strange. The mod has zero viruses (i know because I have the original mod and its fine) but yet has an msi file??? Regardless I will assume this was due to the fact you downloaded a leaked reupload of Flanje original R32 mod. Anyways you shouldn't ever get a virus if you know what you are doing (also use an anti virus) and if you know nothing about mods etc then stick to random BeamNG forums mods. I will also add the fact Virus Total IS NOT an efficient way to check for viruses in multiple things. Sometimes it can have false positives or it can be flat out wrong because it cant quite check everything. Virus total is imo best for only exes.

It's not so simple as not running exe files. Malicious code CAN be hidden in files that are not .exe. There has been cases of executable code in jpegs, for example. When it comes to game mods, they often have some sort of scripting going on that can also exploit some vulnerability and execute code with clearance it shouldn't be able to have. Especially since windows users often bypass UAC checks and just allow anything to execute without giving it much thought. I'm not saying people should be paranoid and stop using mods or whatever, just that malware aren't only found in suspicious executables and that will always be a risk when downloading files from the internet. When in doubt, stick with sources you trust.

I recognized the r32 mod, which i downloaded around 3 months ago i believe. The only thing it got me was a scareware/adware for mcafee. Nothing else that i am adware of. I just want to add that after that i downloaded an antivirus and did multiple scans, and I haven’t noticed anything unusual as of yet.

In short, yes, It is possible to get a virus from a BeamNG mod, but the likely hood of you getting one from the BeamNG forums is incredibly slim, seeing all the files are closely checked, just be careful when you go to 3rd party sites for mods, I have gotten a trojan virus one time from it. I remember seeing this video in my recommended tab and scoffed at it. I came by few weeks later to warn that a Disney employee has been hacked through a BeamNG workshop addon. In the beamng discord server they do NOT recommend modland. Someone types of mods from their let them access your steam library and from there they can do whatever they can do on your machine. I downloaded multiple charger srt mods from there. They were leaks and now my pc is infected and i have to reinstall windows (etc) dont do modland. U can get good mods from there but its really hard. Stay safe guys

Getting a virus from BeamNG Drive mod sites is quite rare. I've never encountered such a problem, but World of Mods is definitely the worst site out there since it has way too many pop-up ads. Avoid downloading stuff that purposefully looks like troll mods or has horrible ratings. What I would worry about are probably situations where someone might upload illegal content into a BeamNG mod. Maybe it can't damage your computer, but it could put you in danger. I heard Modland never verified any of the mods that got uploaded to the site until a horrible accident happened. Some psycho posted a tank mod in which you could find child photos... that bad kind, if you know what I mean.

I don't really know how someone could prove it, since the inside of the folder is literally a one-way ticket to troubles with the law for sure. Plus, I wouldn't consider this as a myth or a legend either. Modland puts more effort into verifying files and their content more than ever these days, but I do know people who purposefully upload troll or zip bomb mods that end up being verified on Modland. However, getting them verified is really tricky. So, I suppose Modland tries to avoid surprises sometimes, but it doesn't work most of the time. But hey, at least they're trying rather than doing absolutely nothing 🤣

bruh i knew before i watched ur video that there is a chance to get a virus from beamng mods but i did not really take any extra steps to check my mods. i was downloading and checking out some new mods just this morning and saw this sprinter on modland, but bc of the negativ reviews didnt download it.. now i know it was the right choice xd what i can say, if u wanna download a car mod the first thing to do is look at the ratings and comments on it, look at how big the ZIP is and if that both seems fair and resonable i personally would donwload it. But once i have the ZIP i always check whats inside myself and only if im not suspicious right there i put it into the repo folder. by now i have downloaded probably 150+ mods from ModLand i it seems like i was lucky to not get hit. just be careful guys if things look too good to be true they are most of the times not good. ps: i now checked all my 51 currently used mods and none of them are even a little bit sus. sooo YAY

Only ever download mods from two sources: -BeamNG repo -BeamNG Forums. That way, the chance of getting any sort of malware is nonexistant. Though, for offsite downloads on BeamNG forums, make sure you check the folder thoroughly.

Hello, I have this exact mod from him as well, there is only one small problem - some configs spawn without tires. But you can easily add them back. But I think the problem is on my side and one of my 430 mods is breaking the Toyota, but I'm not sure :D
