So, I've used AI to help tailor my resume to the job. I've constructed a resume on my own that is frankly a bit bloated. I get lower response rate, but those that do respond absolutely love it. I've been pumping that resume into AI with the job description to help tailor it and shorten the resume and get things more concise and relevant. That has worked, I've got an almost 50% response rate out of tailoring the resume this way. Caveat: I'm well aware that AI can hallucinate. So I'm very cautious about using the output of the AI. I proofread it carefully to remove any hallucinations or things that just dont sound right or otherwise cant be backed up. So I think the way I'm using it is responsible and also not sending out fake experience or hallucinated experience. I also do not let AI format the resume. I have the format, it's just helping to make the content relevant specifically to the job I'm applying for.

Does this actually help the employee or is it just a way to make the manager's job easier, by giving them a starting when writing a performance review? The job search is fascinating. It's a bunch of people doing stuff a certain way because they think they have to. And the more people do it, the more ingrained in the process it becomes. Ostensibly you're free to go wherever and you're free to leave if you find a situation untenable. But are you really? Most people aren't in a financial situation that allows them to exercise that leverage, and in many ways, it's by design. Don't really have the answer, and I'm just venting some anxieties, but I guess I just think it would be refreshing to just walk up to a place with a "We're hiring" sign and hit it off. I've not done any external interviews in nearly 20 years, and my batting average on internal interviews has been pretty good. But the idea that I'd have to start looking again is actually quite unsettling.

My professor I had back then complained to the class pouting "you must think I'm a f**king idiot!" He would flunk his students in his English class over such plagiarism. Now with AI it's even worse and for a hiring manager to collect AI resumes would feel insulted on how candidates are plagiarizing while fewer people are using their own words coming from their heart. These same lines get really old with no new, original material.

Personally, I don't support AI when it gets to writing and especially visual artwork. Visual artwork because AI steals from others and makes errors that a living, breathing artist would never do. Same with writing stories, etc, though idk if it actually steals as much as it just...Looks wonky. Imo, a job seeker shouldn't rely on AI, but their own skills (or lack thereof - at least it's honest!). Using AI could also misrepresent your ability to spell, format, and the like - and this is withOUT aiming for a job that requires basic writing skills. I don't write professionally, but I also don't use AI (literally never heard of AI until people on another website started to talk about it and even used it to generate visual "work", which was a huge outrage considering it was in an art forum) - it's just me and how I write! I actually use the world "realm" a lot, since I got sick of using the word "world" to describe where my personal characters / stories take place. xD I'm also autistic so yeah, my writing and basic grammar aren't gonna be "the best", and I try to not rely on auto-correct most of the time, especially since again, my own stories don't really use "real life" words or may not have the same spelling (such as my god of darkness, Xero - my own take on "Zero", though I use the traditional spelling as well, just not for his name). I do try to fix typos and the like, but I can only do so much, especially when my bad vision doesn't capture it. (yeah I may sound like I could USE AI, but guess what? I hate it, so I won't. :P I'll support it for things that involve actual help, such as locating serious illness)
