Meaning, we cannot do certain things very well, if at all, since we're not smart enough. Like I suck at advanced math. So I am probably not intelligent enough, or too lazy to be arsed to get good at math, or both, and also I'd need to find some job where advanced math is required to know and be good at. That's one example. A lower intellect is probably also defined by lack of problem solving efficiency, the rate at which we bypass problems, and ways to innovate, and I guess, to an extent, lack of initiative. And whatever else there is that defines intellect.
@sreramk2783
@sreramk2783 7 жыл бұрын
Remember, *there is no limit to how intelligent one can become* *The day we stop ordering people hierarchically, based on their so called "IQ" (which is unreal) or their income or their profession, we become intelligent.* The reason why we must stop ordering people hierarchically is, it will stop us from creating standardized idols, and help us explore our own path and be creative. Else, we would start standardizing the set of rules a person must satisfy to be regarded as intelligent. This standardization becomes more distructive than constructive. Because, even if our brain judges a person to be intelligent, the socially accepted standards would kick in, and cause us to revise our judgement eventually causing us to strictly stick to the society given standards. All people are the same, regardless of their position in the socially built hierarchical ladder. Because, the definition of intelligence is too vague as of today and if we do end up defining intelligence accurately some day, we will end up creating AGI. So in the end, if you want to become as intelligent as Einstein or Newton, you can! Or if you try harder you can become more intelligent than them! IQ tests today try to classify people (which is wrong). it does not try to find an intelligent person among many people, rather it groups people into various categories and see which category you fall under. IQ questions usually don't have right answers. Giving a series of numbers like : 2, 4 , 6,8 , 10 and asking for the next number without defining the series makes it ambiguous. The answer can either be 12 or 13322 or 47282882. Because you can always form a mathematical relationship relating them. But in reality, *they give you points for answering 12 not because it is the correct answer, but because most smart people answer that question with that number* . *Now tell me, are IQ tests reliable in measuring your intelligence?*
@jeffm6651

It's actually quite possible for offspring to be more or less intelligent than their parents regardless of their genetics. Remember that genes can be inherited from grandparents or even great grandparents, and so on. So genes from grand or great grandparents who are more intelligent than their offspring, can be inherited by a grand or great grandchild. It's just that more often than not, genes are inherited from the immediate progenitors, but that doesn't dismiss the possibility of genes being inherited phylogenetically.

I'm pretty sure the video stated there was correlation of intelligence between parents and children. that does not mean there won't be outliers or cases where it is not true. it just means that parent and child are statistically similar to a high probability.

+Brian Merkosky this is my case. i didnt think dumb plus dumb equals gifted lol
@brianmerkosky9243
@brianmerkosky9243 7 жыл бұрын
+EMS Soul Knight I think it's probably more likely for 2 gifted parents to have a dumb child but I'm sure it still happens sometimes. some of our genes are recessive so maybe some people are carriers of the ones responsible for intelligence and could pass them on without being smart themselves. this is just a hypothesis though and I have nothing to go on other than its possible. I don't think we have mapped all the genes responsible for intelligence so nobody knows. there is also epigenetics so genes can be carried and can be turned on or off and can also be responsible for outliers of the statistical findings.

You just insulted yourself.

IQ is a primitive way of measuring intelligence. Although it calculates many aspects of intelligence that are valuable and useful, it does not incorporate everything. IQ focuses mostly on mathematics and pattern recognition. But there is also intuition, emotional intelligence, and creative thinking. These traits are underestimated in our society, and people who possess them strongly often (although not always) score lower on IQ tests, which leads to low self esteem. We need to measure intelligence in a way that incorporates everything.

What Thoughty2 said towards the end, about the electric current helping, makes sense. The flow of electrons that occurs when a baby is being stroked, is very important for his or her brain development. So babies that are neglected or not being loved- held in the arms are missing out on a very important part of the growth of their nerve cells. So, it’s not only important on an emotional level but also physical that babies and children need love and attention.

I learned the majority of my knowledge from KZbin and Google. I struggled until I realised, we do need others to learn but the problems are the distractions when in physical and not virtualized reality. This can also operate vice-versa. I spent most time off school, ill health and autism (yay) in my youth, I still succeeded with most of what I wanted to achieve. Now I am doing a undergraduate degree in Computing. Everyone is intelligent, it is finding which area you are intelligent in is the problem. Find what you enjoy learning and doing, and then succeed from it.

Being a genius isn't all especially one that's self actualized it's cracked up to be. I'm an american mensa member. People become predicatable, I'm hyper aware of everything around me and the reasoning behind the decisions of leaders. The only thing I have to say is the worlds a frightening place. It seems everyone is winging it. I fully believe in the concept of hard determination as well. It seems as though everyone is a complex automaton. And society is falling apart because people are so preoccupied with the opinions of others and merely fitting in that they fail to be sincere and genuine people. This is a curse. I suffer from severe depression as a result of the realizations and conclusions I've reached throughout my life.

It's not something to get to upset about really. This is just what free will and reality is, even if it's not how we like to think free will is in our minds. I mean your not wrong, free will is not this magical essence that just create's feelings and actions out of nothing and we do not possess some supernatural power of free will. We are indeed machines with programming and predictable outcomes. But here is the thing. Just cause you know how a magician does his magic doesn't mean what he does is any less impressive would you agree? And life and free will is a big magic trick of sorts with allot going on behind the scenes to make it all possible that we don't normally see. But knowing what does go on shouldn't devalue life or the experiences you have in it. That's how I view it. It's how I stay happy despite knowing our perception of free is bogus. It is a fundamental flaw with humans that we worship the mystical and impossible, but when we find out what we first thought was mystical and impossible is in fact quite explainable and physical we discard it and pretend it now has no value

Well made video, Thoughty2! However, I would also like to add the limited capabilities standardized IQ tests have in quantifying intelligence. Standardized IQ tests attempt to measure intelligence on a linear scale, which is anything but novelty. This is an enormous flaw, since intelligence produces novelty, in contrast to cookie-cutter standardized tests. Here's an example: I did a few online tests before (similar in style to actual administered tests) and I remember finding very complex and intricate patterns in the visual section, however, none of them were legitimate, as they didn't exist as answer options. It wasn't until a deliberately dumbed myself down to see the very simplistic pattern I naturally blinded myself to. This is a fundamental flaw in standardized IQ tests-it assumes the extent to which someone thinks will produce the same results. It is thus my firm belief that IQ cannot be definitively quantified through test administration. Perhaps through other tech.
@lawrence2992
@lawrence2992 7 жыл бұрын
Cyanakrli, Understand that it is the degree to which one is _able_ to reason that quantifies intelligence. With that, it is easy to assume then that available intellectual outcomes will be group-unanimous, depending on the intelligence of said persons. I don't think that is true, since I have met many intelligent Christians, even though the question of God is an easy one. Clearly, God does not exist. In spite of that, very intelligent people still often believe in God-often with complicated and intricate rationales for which. Their beliefs are wrong, but the premise that that therefore quantifies their intelligence ratio is gravely wrong. I expect no difference in administered IQ tests....I think a much better IQ quantification determinant would be the use of direct brain scans to understand the hardwiring of a particular individual, perhaps a combination of identifying specific genes, or even record their thinking patterns, though that technology seems like a massive room for privacy invasion. Ultimately, the current standardized IQ tests are flawed and outdated, and we should look for new alternatives.

It's true that IQ tests can be limited. But any administrated test? So my AP exams aren't going to gauge my intelligence is what you're saying. You could make the point that it's just memorization and I can see that view point. But tests were invented to measure intelligence. Not to mention there are also many different "IQ" tests. Some which work the exact opposite as in this video. I can't exactly remember the name of said psychologists or test names but you should look them up. It's very interesting how intelligence can be measured in many ways.
@lawrence2992
@lawrence2992 7 жыл бұрын
Ethan Hiller, I'm glad you mentioned that. From the sample questions I have seen from standardized IQ tests, I particularly liked the more spatial-oriented questions for their accuracy --- the one's that demanded of you to mentally rotate 3dimensional objects. (I do particularly well with these ones). I say that they are accurate because there is ultimately only one definitive answer to the question of what the orientation of an object would look like at said angle. With pattern sequences, however, I found a multitude of patterns, all very real, some only an intelligent person would notice due to the extent of relational reasoning, but were not recognized by the administered test. This multiple answer problem is a very dangerous pitfall for an IQ test to have --- or as someone once put it to me "there's more than one way to skin a cat." -- you see these kinds of errors in IQ tests all the time, and it leads me to not become a chauvinist of it. Now, I'm not here to fully rule out the validity of IQ tests. My only argument is that they are extremely limited with measuring intelligence, much less quantifying exact numbers. I think I made my case and I think you can agree with me. Thank you for your comment..
@pierrot148
@pierrot148 7 жыл бұрын
Exactly, I just did an IQ test and I'm sure I found patterns in the visual section that were correct, but the system didn't use the same logic as I did. I also found that it heavily relies on your ability to disect a problem in a particular order. Long story short, IQ tests don't work if they're multiple choice questions with only 6 options to choose from. According to the test I have an IQ of 134 which would make me 'gifted', although I do study engineering I don't feel like a gifted person at all in actuality. I often feel like I'm a very slow thinker.

Environment is a HUGE determiner of 'academic performance'. Stress is a leading killer of it. I know lots of A+ students who, cannot figure out how to create something simple in the real world. They go on to be managers and pay people to fix their simple problems in life. I know a lot of C+ Students who are brilliant at real world examination and problem solving. These people work for those managers, but fix their own problems and generally have a better life satisfaction because they are more independent, stronger social network and more spending money in the long run. However, being able to see what he problem is, being able to figure out the process to solve said problem, then being able to stick to that process and monitor it closely while you solve it, and if it doesn't come out, being able to back track and try another route to solve said problem... that is the true gem.

According to I.Q. tests on the internet that looked pretty much exactly like the legit ones I had to take in real life my I. Q. is between 118 and 142. But a legit one I've taken says it's 113. (I even think they miscalculated and that it is "only" 111.) I once read a statement of a guy who knows his I.Q. is in the normal range (rather high than low) who scores about 80 points on legit LOOKING tests on the internet. Lol dude I scored 130 but my eyes just keep getting dry and I'm interested in too many subjects so I can't commit to one. It takes discipline as well.
