Can you Grow Plants in your Blackwater Aquarium?

It is challenging to grow aquatic plants in blackwater set ups because not much light can get through the water column due to the amount of tannins in water.
However, you can successfully grow floating and riparian terrestrial plants in your blackwater set up, which will add more of a natural biotope-style look to your aquarium.

cryptocorynes can be grown in blackwater tank if there is soil under the sand.

Killer aquarium. The frogbit is such a wonderful plant. Ive never seen one quite as big as the one you're holding. Do you fertilize or what are you doing to get such a big healthy plant. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Thank you very much! I do not use any fertilisers in that tank. I guess Amazon frogbit really thrives when it is the only fast growing plant in a tank; in my planted scape with lots of other plants it grows small and very slowly.
