This was easier than I expected, there are key elements that sound very similar when played backwards: tempo, percusion, voices, to some extent chords and even some melodies are easy to figure out..

That's why I definitely think it would have been more difficult had it been focused on the first 3 albums and singles of that period. The Beatles only got more distinctive as they went, so focusing on mid- and late- period made it a lot easier

Great stuff as always. I’ve loved every one of your Beatles quiz videos! As a giant Beatles nerd myself, If you ever want to do a fun live or prerecorded head to head version of this kind of challenge, I would love to! In this challenge I found tempo, key, and most of all bass line to be the biggest giveaways. If you can remember 5-6 notes of the reversed bass line and flip then back around in your head, it’s a dead giveaway for a lot of them. A testament to how unique Paul’s bass arrangements were.

Yeah same here, "Can't Buy Me Love" was the only one I missed too, though "You Won't See Me" took me a few listens to get it. 13/15 for me. Great idea for a quiz! If David Hartley ever does this for you again, maybe one of the songs could be a bit of backmasked track (Rev 9, Rain, etc.). It would make that particular one easy to get, but would be a fun surprise to hear something sounding forwards in the middle of all these backwards clips.

15/15 but damn this was weird! I couldn't tell the name of each song based on the reversed recordings but it somehow recalled the actual song in my mind and after singing it to myself I could easily name them. It's insane how recognisable each and every single one of their songs is. I don't consider a single Beatles track as bad or forgettable and they are the only band whose entire catalogue I can at least hum along. That's why they will always hold a special place in my heart and are surely one of the greatest bands of all time.
@Irys1997

I think it would have been a lot harder had it focused on the first 3 albums. The mid and late Beatles had so many distinctive rhythms and textures and instrumentation that you can get a lot from that alone. And when you couldn't, there was still an "oooo la la la" that stands out in the background even in reverse and tells the tale. The only one I missed was Can't Buy Me Love (because: early)

It's interesting how you can still get the general feel of the album when it's reversed, especially those first two. I thought "oh, this one's from Rubber Soul/Let It Be, but I can't remember which one". When you can't actually tell which song it is, you get the pure, concentrated feeling of the album itself. I got 13/15, messed up on I'm Looking Through You and Can't Buy Me Love.

15/15, yay! here's how i did on the ones David missed #7 - Almost thought it was a different Revolver track, but noticed it was Paul singing here and not George. #8 - The choice of song section was strange but once I heard those backing vocals they were unmistakable. #12 - That infectious bassline works even in reverse #13 - Just a matter of remembering which part of the Abbey Road Medley has that passage WITH lyrics. #15 - It's okay David, some of the song titles blend together for me as well, especially with Rubber Soul cause that one's less hook-heavy and more storytelling.

Track 7 is from the time when Paul started experimenting with "misterious" clues to entertain superstitious people. "I buried Paul" and "Turn me on, dead man" came later. But in 1966 the game was more innocent. He was thinking of palindromes, that's why he initially proposed REVOLOVER as the title for that album. He also started thinking of the USSR. Hence he seems to be singin in Russian when reversed. Добрый день, солнышко.

Great Video! I got full marks on the first listen. It's pretty easy thanks to the distinct instrumental sound of each song. I guess listening to the entire Beatles discography multiple times really gave me the edge.

Great video! I got all of them right but you definitely hinted me on track 2 cause I was totally lost until the second listen.

Similar score to you David and struggled on almost identical tracks. Easily the best Beatles quiz so far.

I, too, an enthralled with all of your Beatles quizzes. I only got 5 right, but 4 of them were ones you missed!

The `organ' sound in "Baby You're a Rich Man" was a Clavioline, an early synthesizer instrument. I would love to own one! ~

That was a great episode! Between my wife and I we got them all except "Can't Buy Me Love" and we mis-named "You Never Give Me You Money" with "Carry That Weight". A lot of fun. Please do more.

Fascinating - I found this really difficult - maybe my music memory is primed by melody and sequence much more than it is by harmony and chords. But now I have several backwards Beatles earworms in my head.

That was very difficult! I got 5 out of 15 right, and I think I just got lucky on those 5. The biggest clue for me was a small part of an instrumental section that I could recognize (if one existed), such as on "For No One" and "Good Morning". Definitely harder than the 1-sec forward Beatles' clips.

it's interesting how the timbre of an instrument, even for a moment, can give it away.

Got a perfect score, it’s easy to figure out as long as you recognize distinct elements

i found it easy. you just have to care on the beat and the sound and it is almost as easy as not in reverse. i found them all. thank you david for the video !

15/15 that was so hard a few of them were guesses just by some background noises like the percussion in you've got to hide your love away and the harmonies of you won't see me. i found this way harder than the one second clip but it also felt like a fresh take on a challenge like this that i really enjoyed!

14 out of 15. I blew the second one, but David was on point about just listening to the backing track. Once I did that, I got them all.

Missed this one video, great to have mentioned it in the latest blind test! :-) Way much easier than the others, got 15/15, before the end of each excerpt, except for Can't buy me love on the second listen. Thanks!!

Got 15/15, found it fairly easy tbh but I did have the same issue as you identifying Lovely Rita, knew the part but took me a moment to get the name in my mind especially as it’s the outro which is quite different to the main song. I found tempo, vocalist, instrumentation, chord changes and even key moments of the melody really gave most of them away pretty quickly. That was a fun video!
