Can You Have A Good BPD Or NPD Relationship?

I get asked this all the time. Unstable relationships is a marker of BPD. Do you think you can have a good one?

Hi everybody, I'm Rich, and welcome to my channel!
I've spent my adult life living with Borderline Personality Disorder, BPD, and Narcissistic Personality Disorder, NPD. I was finally diagnosed in 2019 and have spent the last three years working through therapy, which has recently come to an end.
In my videos I share my experiences living with these conditions, and the things I've learned about how to deal with them. I've come a long way in healing, but I'm nowhere near the end of my journey.
I'm definitely not any form of medical professional, and my videos should absolutely not be used in place of actual therapy or other real help. I'm just a guy with a camera and microphone, who loves the sound of his own voice.

Not BPD or NPD, but my ex has ASPD, we broke up like a week ago. He kept saying I had NPD etc. Before we broke up his therapist was also pointing to a NPD diagnosis, to go along with the ASPD. When he heard that he came home & said “I’m just like you now” like wtf. I don’t consider myself narcissistic whatsoever. Why would he ever even think that? Especially if he himself probably has it.

If at any time you feel you can't walk away for any reason, you're in trouble. A relationship should be a net-positive all involved, not lopsided. People will entertain BPD more than NPD relationships because of the hope of remission and there's a lot of bombardment of "misunderstood but super-lovable" narratives from those who are pwBPD online. Would you date someone who is overweight, but is working on themselves? I wouldn't. But I would if it was someone who was overweight and is now is in a better spot. Same deal with BPD. And going into remission from BPD is a lot harder than losing weight...

I am happily married to a BPD chick. Challenging, yes, but not impossible. I wouldn't change any of my decisions about the relationship.

@@Silly_Brain 🥺 Thanks. So glad to hear that. This bpd person I'm into has probably the worst luck of history. In waiting for almost a year now so he can start improving and healing so I can ask for a step forward and try a relationship 🤞🏻🕯️

@@Tutel0093 Good luck. Not gonna say it is easy. On the contrary. I would advise you to really be mindful of it and you both work on it. You getting to know what to expect, what to be vary etc is a huge part of the realationshit working. Personal one. I was always pretty bad in setting boundaries. So my BPD then girlfriend just walked all over my boundaries and didnt seem to care. I wasnt aware what is going on, I was just getting more and more pissed. And to such a point that i switched to being a narcisistic dickhead just to protect my boundaries. Turned out that since I am not good at setting boundaries and my BPD wife is bad at reading hints, she wasnt aware she is doing something bad. We sorted it out, but this stuff happens very easily. For a relationship to work, your partner truly needs to do a lot of work, but so do you. Wish you luck. You´re gonna need it :D :D

It won't make it better. The person with BPD needs therapy and acceptance of the disorder. You can't heal a personality disorder with validation and will make it worse if you validate a lot of the symptoms of the disorder itself

Im 44 now,so for 42 odd years I didn't know I had bpd,and I was not fun either. I was in that terrible bit when I met my fiancé,can tell you being with me almost killed both of us,so now Im in the middle bit, doing the work. Splitting,fp and so many other aspects of this goddamn disorder I just found out and my whole life makes more sense,Ive been fucked up since forever,so what is normal like then?

Omg my partners similar in age and I haven’t heard anything about people being diagnosed beyond their 20s! Can I ask how you realised you had BPD?

I got out of a relationship with someone who we thought had BPD and was in remission; but the worse things got it turned out it was NPD. He's still not quite getting better, and I hope he does, but the most painful part is knowing I can't help him since I was such a source of validation for him in the wrong ways. With me around, he was in denial and not getting better. These videos have kept me sane and reminded me that my own empathy for him isn't ill-placed, he's not some monster, there's still a guy under all that fighting to be as human as he can, but NPD especially is so, so easily demonised it's sickening.

I’m going on to my 5th year with someone I’m 99% sure has BPD, and have gently raised the topic because I’m concerned about him. I think he’s looked into it, but as most of the information out there is so negative, he doesn’t want to identify with it. I love how you have a real, and more upbeat perspective. If you run out of ideas, would you make a video about traits you have that identify with BPD? Thankyou! x

Sheesh,so that's in the beginning part like,that is absolutely terrible and terrifying and it can get way worse before it gets better. Only after I found out I had it it got worse somehow,I'm not sure why. I wish I had something positive for you.....

That’s disappointing, especially considering it’s already gotten pretty tough… I genuinely appreciate this though, thank you for your honestly. So many questions! But I guess the biggest is, from your experience- any advice?
