I think they'd love the sound of our modern piano. Liszt changed his old one for a new one when he was very old already. This nostalgia for sounds of old pianos is an "our generation" thing. They were always looking for new and better sound ones.
@Schmidtelpunkt
@Schmidtelpunkt 2 ай бұрын
The qualities of the medium influences the art. Stereo allowed a greater clarity of sound and more instruments in the mix, which changed studio productions. LPs had two sides and the order of tracks was optimized for that, CDs were optimized for being listened uninterrupted, modern music is happening on playlists, so there is no connection anymore between songs required. 70s synth never could sound like real instruments, so they were used for their own qualities right into the 80s when they started to be used to compensate for other instruments in a cheaper way. Tik Tok requires a minute of music without an intro and tracks meant to be promoted that way have pretty much become that. Pop music is not meant to be sung by opera singers and Freddie Mercury's Barcelona (which was specifically written for his and Montserrat Cabllé's voices) lead to an avalanche of mediocre operatic pop covers, which never should have existed.
@Casutama
@Casutama 2 ай бұрын
@@user-ye2sm1gq7l That's not the question though. Old pianos sound different, achieve a different sound effect, and not necessarily a worse one. The question is if these compositions would still be composed in the same way if they were written with the modern piano in mind.

The classical composers sound better on the modern piano, even though a good portion of them played on pianos of that age, if not older. But I make the exception for Scott Joplin, he always sounds exceptional on older pianos. Ragtime just sounds amazing on brassy old pianos! This was a fun video, thank you! 😃

Great comparison video. This reminds me of all the old cowboy movies I've seen. Most saloons had an old geezer playing in the background and the piano sounded like your old one. I wondered the same. Also do different species of tree make for different sounds? Plus the best violins it turns out the wood marinated in ocean water by necessity due to the location of the city waiting for the wood to be needed. Forming salt crystals giving Stradivarius violins their amazing tone. So a guitar maker tried the same trick and got an upgrade.

I wasn't looking at the screen for the first comparison and I felt it like smack to the back of my head, I knew which one was modern and which was older. There's a less heavy/bass feeling in the older piano, while the modern piano feel more full. I also get an almost ragtime sensation listening to the 1800's piano play, or it's almost like an harpsichord. I might be wrong comparing the 1800's piano with a harpsichord since you don't normally hear either in our time. The older piano is definitely higher, like a tenor, than the more baritone-capable modern piano.
