Absolutely!! The 2.5 mil one has that persistent white noise, seductive whispery element in every note, along with a vocal quality that none of the others have to any great degree. I once played a very fine Bechstein that had those qualities and almost cried because I could never afford a piano like that. That 2.5 million piano makes me tear up!

Thanks for this video! I don't know how you recorded it, but the sonic differences among the pianos certainly were apparent, at least through my wonderful headphones and amp. From what I've experienced, all stringed instruments have their own unique tonal differences, even among those of the same model. It's very noticeable with guitars, and even with Steinways. I'd auditioned a number of Model B's side by side when searching for my own, and only one stood out from the rest (at least to my tastes); I'd brought that one home. (I'd just noticed that I'm wearing my T-shirt from the Aspen Music Festival where those Model B's were gathered, a shirt I haven't worn or even seen for over 15 years. Some coincidence.) This brings up a conundrum with instrument purchases such as these: different pianos from within the same model line sound a little different from each other, and occasionally one will stand out. A piano may well be bought because of its looks, but it may not be a sonic stand-out. While all of the art case pianos in the Steinway vault sound very nice, as they should, some sound better than others. It's good to know that the $2.5 million "Pictures at an Exhibition" Model D sounds as a Model D should, instantly recognizable, sweet, and tonally rich. (I wasn't looking at the screen when Mr. Vinheteiro started playing it, but immediately noticed the difference when he'd struck the first notes.) I very much enjoy your videos Lord V., so keep them coming!

O que leva a serem caros é a alta qualidade deles, aliado ao valor histórico que eles tem, além do fato de serem grandes relíquias, também por serem instrumentos raríssimos, fora que a Steinway já faz instrumentos bem caros mesmo. Mas uma coisa é fato: Quase ninguém no mundo inteiro que tenha dinheiro para comprar compraria um piano de 2,500,000 dólares, ainda mais se fosse para estudar no caso. São verdadeiras relíquias!

I hear the difference between the first sound and the second one. The second one is definitely more deeper for me but I can't hear the difference between the 2nd and the 3rd one, they sound so similar. The 4th one has a little bit deeper sound again.
