Appreciate it Keith! Like someone else said, the decrement portion in regards to tracking was very helpful. You explains things very well and it's easily understood. Thank you.

I was wondering how to track interfaces, every tutorial i saw was just when the router completely shuts off. But i went to google and did little bit of research and learned about tracking, and now i see this video! great work!

Nice! This was a very fun lab. Thank you Keith! With this specific topology, would you want to also configure HSRP on Router3 and Router4 if this were a topology used in production?
@KeithBarker4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question Caleb B. In the middle of the network (without clients) we really don't need FHRPs, and if there is a failure there, the routing protocols will automatically converge to continue to forward traffic. FHRPs like HSRP only needed when next to hosts that have need for a default gateway.

Owsome I have one question , do I have to change the default gateway from the PC every time that one Router goes down or the interface goes down ?
@KeithBarker4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question Pablo. The good news is no. If R1 is at .1, and R2 is at .2, and both of them are in the same HSRP group that is supporting .12, the client can always have the default gateway of .12 and which ever router is the active router will support that address, even if 1 of the routers fails, the .12 will still work as a default gateway for the client.

I don't understand...I can set this up fine in packet tracer but not between physical hardware with 2 1921's. I'm not seeing any hello packets when i do a debug standby terse....I don't have any acl's setup... Show CDP entry *....ok I started from scratch, defaulted the interface setting and setup hsrp first, enabled debugging and ensured that I was seeing the hello packets and shut down the Interface and fail over occurred

How do we implement FHRP in IPv6?
@KeithBarker4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question Sakar Pudasaini. Here is a link for the Cisco docs for that: www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ip/hot-standby-router-protocol-hsrp/113216-ipv6-hsrp-00.html I don't recall ever having set that up for IPv6. Will have to give that a try someday soon. Cheers! 😀
