Great build. If you have the time and tools, you can use brass or any cheap and light metal. I did some brass elements on a speaker I build entirely from scratch including the electronics (It sounds well enough for what it is). There is a lot of filing and sanding and polishing with a fun bit of drilling to do, but the results are worth it. Also you can use a special tool that is rather cheap to trim the edges of lether to a nice round shape like you see on good lether work. Using cloth on the bottom is much more comfortable.
