Excellent video. I’ve been buying canned pumpkin each time I go into Walmart. Their’s is $1.17 per can. I’ve made pumpkin bread and pumpkin muffins over the last two weeks. Three years ago I hit Kroger on the right day after the holidays and they had Libby’s canned pumpkin for .25 per can. I bought 20 and that lasted me almost 2 years. I have cranberry sauce left from last year. I bought 10 on sale. I serve it with roasted chicken all year long.

I wait till Turkey's go on sale to buy one. I used to work at a grocery store and every year we got a coupon for I think it was $ 5 off a Turkey. I always got a 10 lb turkey and got it when it was on sale and paid around $3 for a whole Turkey. Some of the items you bought can be bought at the dollar tree too. Their canned vegetables are 2 for .98 cents I believe. I freeze butter and use it as I need it.

11/26/24 Whole turkeys were on ad last week at Kroger’s but the smallest one they had was 16 lbs; too much for the three of us. This week Kroger has frozen turkey breast on ad for $1.79 pound, which I think is too expensive. But their whole chickens are .99 lb and run about 5-7 lbs. At that price, I p/u 5 whole chickens around 7 lbs to stock up my freezer. I’ll use one of those for Thanksgiving and we’ll have plenty for leftovers. Debi in Vicksburg, MS. 🥰🥰

When purchasing a frozen sale turkey for our freezer until the actual day we ALWAYS purchase the largest turkey within our means for making turkey stew/soup, turkey pie, hot open face sandwiches ( using leftover stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy ), etc … for freezing or additional meals using our pantry and freezer if necessary stocked with previous sale items. I’ll cut back on something in our weekly grocery to STOCK UP on a sales flyer item WE CONSUME. Years ago I began to take any and all pocket change along with $1 and eventually $5 bills every Friday of every week to put away and ADD UP at the end of each month! My husband laughed at me until he saw the amount! Cash is best for VISUAL sometimes.

@@jeromehenry4484 Good afternoon Jerome and greetings from GA. I read the part about your grocer having frozen collards, and I know that some carry the bag ones in the produce section. @jeromehenry44842 ай бұрын
@@GJackson-k2t Hello from Texas. I purchase my frozen foods from Randalls (part of Albertsons) under their "Signature Select" house brand. They have many Southern favorites like collards/okra/black-eyed peas/etc. that I cannot find in other grocers' frozen section. Since I'm a single senior on a tight budget, it's more economical & reduces waste for me to use frozen over fresh for many vegetables. I stock up when they have bags on sale for $1.00 each. Their collards have very little stems and are chopped smaller than what you find in produce section (which is very high priced & highly perishable). Main thing is to get nutrient-dense foods in diet that fit my tight grocery budget & energy/skill level of cooking.

@@homemakingwithdenise It’s one of the simplest desserts you can make and soooooo good. Preheat oven to 350. You take Granny Smith apple and core and cut them into 8 slices. Need to keep in mind that Denise said this meal is to serve 10 people, mostly adults, on $30 that comes out to $3.00 per person. Agreed it is primarily processed food but it's also what 90% of guests are expecting to be served. Since I'm pre-diabetic, would prefer turkey/collard greens/small plain sweet potato with butter pat/lima beans (there's 2 super foods on that plate!), but you know guests would be majorly disappointed if I served that for Thanksgiving Dinner. Glad you mention EBT can also be used for seed/plants that will produce food in future. Many should have started looking in October for supermarkets that offer free turkeys for spending $300 or $400 over a 6 to 8 week period. I live in Downstate NY and there are two such supermarkets in the Metro NY area. Singles can't take advantage of this type of deal, but families sure could. Also, many supermarkets also drop the price of turkeys to .49/lb. Where are you going to find any kind of meat for that price. BTW, you like that $30 number. Why be so rigid. Keeping one's mind focused solely on a specific number you will very often miss opportunities. There's one videologger that drives me crazy. She's got a family of 5 herself, 3 sons and husband. Continually tries to make budget meals aimed at a certain price and no way is there enough food for all 5 of them as she says. I say this because I have eyes and can see the portion she puts on the plates. Sometimes you need to be proactive.. Back in September a local store was selling frozen turkey breasts for .69/lb. Since it's only myself, I bought a 4 lb breast for $2.76. Would have purchased a larger one but didn't have room in my freezer for it. Always keep regular and instant mashed potatoes in the house as well as green beans and carrots. A friend gave me free pumpkin last year so I bought a pie crust and condensed milk for $3.25. Already have cranberry sauce and/or applesauce and stuffing. For $6.00 I have a Thanksgiving meal for 2 to 3 people.

I love turkey but by now…I’ve made three of them. I may not look at a turkey for a few weeks. Hahaha!

You should think about using gloves.......

Gloves give people a false sense of security. They don’t wash their hands enough when they wear gloves.

By me Jenny-O & Butterball turkeys go on sale for .59/lb with a $20 purchase. Seems like the most expensive thing on my menu is butter of all things.
