I used to dry clean. However, now I'm going to dry wahing. 😎 Seriously, I've had the rare opportunity to find many gems and precious metals all over the lower 48. Your book and videos have been my #1 source for results. 👍

Hey how is it going, Jeff? Thanks for stopping in to comment. VC is a great area with such amazing history - and the mineralization covers such a large area. I worked underground on the Comstock lode back in the 1980s! I'd love to do a collab with you one of these days when you are in the VC area - it would be a lot of fun.

I think i would like these puffer sluices. A lot quieter, and if the battery were to die, I assume hand cranking is possible too.

I missed the first week because I was sick, I'm fine now. I was out this weekend prospecting and made a nice find of quartz gold at a central Nevada gold district - future video on that one. Had no signal when I was prospecting, but put up this video as soon as I got back to where I had a signal on Sunday morning.

I have Scoop Away buckets too. LOL ! Nothing beats dry washing for getting dirty. Love the dust ! Living like the old-timers. Haha ! I think it's the thrill of discovery which makes it exciting. Thanks for explaining all the details and issues about it. It's a great prospecting tool. Beautiful scenery out there. Great day for hunting shiny ! Can't wait to see your sluice results in the next video !

I'm curious to know if there is a reason to not use some larger equipment to speed up the process and make the hard work easier. That looked like a good amount of gold for a small amount of material. Is the majority of the gold nestled in the bedrock or spread out in the dirt?
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph 6 ай бұрын
Bigger equipment is heavier, more expensive, more work to set up at the site.

One word….. sampling, dry washers are great for sampling to determine if it’s worth bringing in equipment and the permitting that goes along with it.

A small generator and hammer drill will break apart that kind of rocky soil a whole lot faster and easier than a pick. I have a 800w generator that only weighs 22 lbs., it runs a 8 amp SDS hammer drill well, so the package is pretty portable. I really don't mind exercise, but I prefer to get as much gold as possible for the amount of work I do.
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph 6 ай бұрын
The generator may weigh 22 lbs, but you need fuel, the hammer drill, bits, etc. If that ground was more cemented, that would make sense. But it was not that cemented, it was not difficult to work by pick. Its a choice, in some places a hammer drill would be necessary.

Well dry washing in Northern Nevada? Thought you had all the water.. Based in Vegas dry digg'n is all I'm setup for. Trying different methods using vacuum and blower. I'll take it Tonopah area. Always gett'n gold there, even micro fines. I wanted to ask what do you figure is a good prospecting club here in Vegas?
@ChrisRalph

We have more water than southern Nevada but its like saying a guy who has a teaspoon of water has more than a guy who has two drops. The Vegas GPAA club is a good one.

Its another step and piece of equipment to pack out, but how about running the material through a trommel? A trimmel would classify the material knocking gold off dirt and rocks, the drywasher should perform better with classified material.
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph 6 ай бұрын
Yes, that would help, but as you say a lot more equipment to pack and also a trommel would make like 10 times the dust of the drywasher because you are rolling the dirt in the trommel.

Second question: I finally found a unclaimed small hydraulic pit but got skunked... just generally what areas of hydraulic pits do you focus on? I detected the walls for a while but that was difficult work. Then I detected the gullies where the sluice likely was but that was full of trash. Finally I just wandered the main part of the pit but nothing still, it seemed they did not wash all the way to bedrock (I found the bedrock later next to two adits, I figure they were drift mines not on the map). But the majority of the pit was about 20 feet above bedrock. Sorry that was a lot but generally is the gullies/sluice area or just the majority of the pit you detect, even if not down to bedrock? Thanks, and sorry for all the questions, its just my nature.
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph 6 ай бұрын
Really hard to say without seeing things with my own eyes, I've found pretty much all my pit gold on or very near bedrock.

“If you’re doing fine gold, you wanna take it easy”… and that my friends is the difference between a KZbin Prospector and a real Prospector. So many people were irate with me on the GPAA Facebook page when I said he was a real prospector, saying “I put them all down” (snowflakes) I rest my case.
