Hey you guys without a water-cooler, just hook-up to your sink-faucet, let the discharge-water run-down the drain. You won't notice any change on your water-bill.

I'm guilty of this, I ran my powertig 250ex without the cooler for about a year, between 42-150 with a 3/32 tungsten. Torch would get hot and would have to let it cool. Just got a job in and was fighting argon flow issues at the cup. & the red cooler line always gets a leak right at the quick connect, Just today I went to go weld and the coolant was spitting out the cup. I've been running the cooler for about a year now & always felt something was off with gas coverage and arc starting. Pretty sure this was my fault and problem all along SMH Thank you for this info.

My red line is very brittle and broken.... What are my options?? I got the 26 style Flex Lock when I got my MTS 275.... and I used the water cooler with it.... It doesn't make sense to me....

That was painful to watch. Were those CK Worldwide "superflex" lines? I think I put the same #20 torch on my 255 EXT. I built my own cooler from a carbonator pump and put a microcontroller on it so it turns off when I'm not welding. It also checks for adequate flow rate before allowing me to weld. A nerd's dream, it is.... 😒

so the mts 275 needs a water cooler? i read that it comes with a water cooled torch standard and i was gonna buy this for my first welder i under stand it’s pricey, i could get something cheaper and i was, i was originally gonna get a primeweld tig225 but i wanted the 275 for the fact of having HF start on tig and being able to do mig and stick and flux core. granted i don’t know any of the processes i like the capabilities this has to do all of those pretty well from what i’ve seen so far which isn’t much. but that being said i don’t really wanna have to buy the water cooler in order to be welding all the time because that’s what it comes with but i like the things this has over the mts 225 they make.

For a water cooled torch. Do you still need to use Argon? Nice test.
@Somun-a
@Somun-a 2 жыл бұрын
You need to argon to shield the tungsten and the workpiece from the atmosphere (oxygen). It is not efficient for cooling.

Great video and oddly satisfying to see those torches burn up. It would have been interesting to see how an air cooled #9 (rated at 125 amps) faired in the same tests. Both torches have the same physical dimensions but does that mean that a “waterless” #20 can be treated like it’s a #9? My guess is NO... but as they say, “1 test is worth more than 1000 opinions”.

You should have redone the test with the cooler on to show that if it could hold up to those temperatures.

Also, invest in a gun thermometer to remotely check the temps. Aim the laser and pull. And EL surely can afford one that records, as well. Fluke makes a bunch of them. Better than guessing by "feel". Just my FWIW.

Garden hose!! Have cooler at home, but when traveling, use garden hose. Of course, famous quote: "only have a few welds to do, so don't worry about the cooler." Nope, melted the stock Everlast power cable. My fault, not Everlast. Jessie, Please don't do that to the Superflex hoses!!!

You would be surprised how often this question comes up... I would say between all the forums i'm on, I see it at least 3 times a month. Machines over 200amps come standard with a water cooled torch, due to the fact that there isnt an air cooled torch thats rated above 180amp DC, BUT everlast will switch out the torch for you, if requested. I think some people don't notice this.

Update.... So these types of tests are cool but it really hurts to see you just destroy and melt these torches like everlast has plenty to go through....(if they are yours personally then I apologize Jesse).... However I contacted Everlast a couple of days ago and they basically said, Oh you bought all your equipment(Mts 275 lightning, powercool 400, Plasma 60, Cart, and cover..... Over $5,000 and that's because I bought it PRE-PRODUCTION, So I got a discount, Supposedly) in 2019 and there is only a 1 year warranty on torches.... To be honest I bet I don't have 3 hrs. total on that tig torch and only welded 18 and 20 gauge sheet metal & the water line is already shot.... So beware, even if you do have a water cooler (Power cool 400 in my case), YOU ARE NOT GUARANTEED TO HAVE SUCCESS WITH THIS TORCH.... Original Comment: 6-19-2023..... My red line is very brittle and broken.... What are my options?? I got the 26 style Flex Lock when I got my MTS 275.... and I used the water cooler with it.... It doesn't make sense to me....

Put an insulator between the torch handle and mount that you are fastening to. Not a good test unless you have a steel hand like a pirate. 🙄😏

pretty fucked up everlast. if i wanted a water cooled torch and a water cooler rig i would have ordered one so why a a new purchace you send me a tig machine ex 250n with a water cooled torch that i cant use without a water cooling rig? then i had to order seperate an air cooled torch sounds like a scam to me. i like the machine but not the stupid SCAM.

Its stated on the site it comes with an 18 series torch, a 26 series torch is only rated at 180 amps DC, even less for AC... The only option for a torch rated for the max amperage of the machine is a water cooled option..... But I am sure if you were to call the everlast sales team they would have gladly swapped the torch out for an air cooled model for you before shipping.
