I have an asteroids. I’d love to know where I can get that convertor to go to lcd.

Looking forward to seeing how the medium res to standard res conversion works in that toobin too. I need the stop by your arcade next time I’m in the area… looks awesome!

What about running a 6100 hv & deflection on a CRT tube. The neck can be adapted but you would need a 6100 yoke. Thats a route to take if its just a necked tube - that 4900 is a great donor tube as its a 19VLTP22 which is the same neck socket.

Did that with our Star Wars machine. Tube swapped the Amplifone tube with a 4900 tube and it works great!

That fighters row you've got at The Arcade is so good. I'm glad to see MK4 is back in the line up, it wasn't there when I visited. I may be coming back through there later this year, I'll stop by again if I do. The game selection is perfect for my taste. All you'd need is a Hydro Thunder to complete my favorites.

Thanks for this! I really find smooth textureless polygond really charming to look at, but there's something even cooler at looking at these vector graphics on real sharp displays, and even today, despite technology advancing so much, nothing has really been able to surpass how clean these vector graphics look. I always wonder if we'll ever get some sort of successor to the long obsolete vector monitors, such as a vector based LCD screen. The closest I've seen are some light projectors that were trying to emulate these arcade games, and they look really good. And it's a shame the Vectrex was the only vector based console to ever come out. Though it's a no wonder they died out, as raster graphics can do basically everything that they can do, but in more complex detail. I think there's a hobbyist following for it nowadays. Do you know if there was ever a 3D platformer that was made with this vector technology?

Is there a reason you can't rewind the deflection yoke on a CGA monitor for X/Y like you can with an old color TV?
@MikesArcadeMonitorRepair2 жыл бұрын
I don’t see why not, but that’s a skill I do not have.
@Meshamu Жыл бұрын
Does seem like that would be even better! Sharper, and with way less input lag than going through two converters.

Nice! So I’m curious, would it be possible for the VectorVGA manufacturer to make a VectorCGA adapter instead?
@Meshamu Жыл бұрын
That sounds like it could be a great idea. Just one converter instead of a chain of them, would probably have less lag, and probably a better image conversion, dithering, etc? It does look pretty good for what it is, though.

@@MikesArcadeMonitorRepair I just find the letterboxing shaped burn to be irritating. I'd rank it up near pac man in the list of games that will burn your phosphors real good.

That is BOSS Mike! What a great alternative. 99% of arcade goers will never know the difference. I am excited to see how the Toobin works out! I have a bunch of WG7203 monitors that have a switch that toggles between 15.7 khz and 17.0 khz. What is the 17 khz all about? Is that an EGA setting?

I thought Vector games had long glowing phosphorus in the CRT which is why a normal CRT wouldn't work correctly. But from what I can see, both look great!

Yup. Not as good as the vector tube, but totally passable.

Mike what is the diffrence it the tubes? Why can you not tube swap into a vector monitor? I like this idea !!
@MikesArcadeMonitorRepair2 жыл бұрын
There are only two Vector monitors that were ever made and are rare. They take the X/Y signals from the PCB and via a deflection board, display the vector graphics. They are completely different from a standard monitor.
@shmehfleh31156 ай бұрын
There's nothing special about the vector CRT itself. If you have one with the same neck pinouts and deflection angle as the WG6100, you can pull the deflection yoke off it and install it on the replacement tube.
@Zebra668 ай бұрын
Any regular PC CRT monitor is capable of vga. Might be better than using those cheap converters which only output 480i which is essentially halving the frame rate. Then again... all those old vector games look awful even with a real vector monitor. Does anyone play them for the graphics in 2024?

My concern would not be how it looks, but rather input lag. It seems like there will be some delay in the video signal as it needs to first be processed by the first converter, then a second delay as it gets processed by the second converter, which means there might be some level of delay between the press of a button and the visual change on screen (aka input lag). If the input lag is undetectable, then I think you have a winner.

Completely undetected as far as I can tell. Immediate response when firing and moving.
