I've had a friend. I knew him for 30 years or so. One day he asked me about this topic and he confessed that he might have done something as stupid as that in his youth, just to win a girl's favour. Foolishly, I told him that he should just confess to his priest, start attending the church, and commune. God will surely tear it up out of love for a repenting sinner. At first, my friend did as I told him. I saw him only a couple of times after that, and every time I saw him he was less himself. He wouldn't talk to me anymore. The last time I saw him in the street I could barely recognize him. After a year or so, I talked to some of mutual friends, and they as well wondered what happened to Dragan. He disappeared. That's when I've searched cemetery data online and found out that he was listed as departed and buried. At the cemetery, I was told when he was buried and where, but they didn't know how he died at the age of 48. Pray for my friend's soul, as I do ever since.

Because a contract is binding. He might get your soul by seduction, but it is easier to gain her back. If you regret fornicating and you stop, the devil loses grasp over you for that passion. The same is not true with the contract, because you have consciously (and not subconsciously, as is whith the passions) handed down your own soul. Obviously, this would make sence only if the devil can gain control over many people through the high influence of specific a man, ie a king, a general, a philosopher, etc. Those people are much more likely to influence the world than you and me, and are by definition more succeptable to pride because of their power and influence, so they would be themselves more willing to actually make such a bargain. If the devil appears in people you like and me and tells us I want your soul, most of us are going to be shitting our pants and will stop sinning through sheer fear. Not only he is going to lose his control over us, but he is going to make saints of many of us. But if he appears into one of those, they might as well get flattered, because they are so important that even the devil himself occupies himself with them. The sins of the flesh breed humility, because they remind you of your mortal condition. The sins of the spirit on the other hand breed pride, because they hide it from your eyesight.

I actually sold my soul to the devil in deep desperation. I hated God for creating me. I still kinda do, but I'm trying to turn that around. I really hate my life and I resent existence. I just wish my very being could be snuffed out as if it never existed. Thats pretty much why I gave my soul over. Didnt even ask anything in return. Maybe I could say that I gave it over under distress but I dont think any excuses would be valid. I guess I might try to repent and ask for his forgiveness, but at this point I think the only thing I may achieve in life is a love of God without any hope of salvation. I regret what I did, but what I regret even more is that I was given life in the first place. Maybe I should learn to love life first so that I can be grateful for it? I dont know. All I know is how much I hate being in this world.

Selling one's soul (or generally acting in ways that are incompatible with God's life) is not about stealing one's soul (which is what the quote you cited is all about), but about someone giving freely their soul, so even though a specific ritual may not be needed, selling of one's soul to the devil is an actual possibility, whether as a single action or (more usually) by living in such a way. That is why God in the parable of the rich fool tells him "You fool, This night they (ie the demons) demand your soul from you."

And there was even a schism, there are now 2 Batushkas (and many more self-proclaimed Batushkas too). But there is still this imagery, that is mocking our faith. Could it be that this band is beneficial for those who are into the Black Metal scene, but harmful for non-Metalheads? I mean, it's somehow still bringing the chants and prayers to a publicum, that mostly has no idea about God. In fact, the publicum is mostly mocking on the Catholic faith (still not good), without knowing about Orthodoxy. And I've read in a forum that someone (Metalhead) has even converted to the Orthodox faith after being confronted with this band. And in an interview the creator of the music (Hrisotofor, if I remember right) has said, everyone should decide for himself what this music is - Black or Unblack (note: there is a Sub Sub Metalgenre called Unblack Metal, nonsatanic or Christian Black Metal). Its so weird. Black Metal is I think the same as D&D, Yu-Gi-Oh!... as per the Lepavina homepage.
