While passive aiming should be something every rifle is capable of, and every shooter should be proficient in... In my experience, it's REALLY only effective in sterile open areas with high illum from stars, moon, etc. If it's dark out, or you're in a heavily wooded area, you cant engage let alone PID anything past like 25 yards. Have an optic that you can passive aim with, have a laser with a good illuminator for when it really matters. And TRAIN.
@musicman1eanda12 күн бұрын
That's what I was gonna say. Even with my L3 tube, I get into conditions where you can't even tell if a shape is a boulder or an animal, and that's even within 25yds.
@mandaloin12 күн бұрын
Your optic also comes into play here too. I had a Holosun 403 that I thought was good for passive aiming until I tried it on a low illum night. Something with better light transmission can work in more conditions, but you're 100% right that a good illuminator is crucial.

Bino has huge advantage over mono when it comes to passive aim, from what I discovered. With bino, you can get away with using optics that are not night vision friendly. Some optics have more coatings than other optics so they will look darker when doing passive aim. So when you're doing passive aim with bino, your eye other isn't looking through the optic, giving you a clear view. That image merges with the eye you're looking through the optic and gives you clear image. You guys know you can shoot with your aimpoint cover on if you keep your both eyes open. It's the exact same concept.

So one of the ways I’ve found a middle ground is running the 1.93s/2.26s is running a beefy stock/cheek riser. I still don’t have to crane my neck, and I can get a chin weld. I have a very square jawline so If I go lower 1/3 I’m chipmunk cheeking to the point to where my tubes don’t consistently line up to my optics. At the end of the day it comes with toying around what works for you, then putting on full kit and doing it again to check function. Another way is having a slightly higher stock position in the shoulder, which when wearing a carrier usually ends up being the case anyway unless you have a deeper relief cut in your carrier/armor, to where the stock placement sits what I would call “more properly”. The biggest thing is just getting out and finding out what works for you, your kit, your body type, what’s actually effective along all those variables. For instance how I shoot prs with a precision rifle is more centerline to the chest versus wearing full kit. My rifle goes to the shoulder versus centerline chest, I have to go from helmet electronic ears to in ear hearing protection on my strong side in a “patrol” type of function. Our sniper’s for example, once they got to a hide sight took off their body armor and helmets to get more comfortable for their shooting position, all of these things need to be tested in different settings, positions, weapon systems, and kit. I think the biggest issue for most people including myself, is having a group of like minded, like equipped people and facility to test all of these variables. I have 63 acres and out of the kindness for my Mennonite neighbors only shoot suppressed 300blk/9mm sub and 22Lr sub suppressed at night 😂 so my ability to function test everything is limited, and there’s people who are unfortunately stuck with zero options minus maybe a UNIT4 training rifle or airsoft gun to play around with their set ups. Keep it up Brandon. You’re doing good work.

Throughout TREX history we've seen NVG POV footages so we know you have the tools. 0 clips here about passive shooting through POV perspective. Why?
@jamesharding345912 күн бұрын
Because they know full well that passive shooting is nowhere near as easy as they make it seem, and showing it would shed the illusion. Much easier to just mag-dump the berm and edit in some sound effects.

I like this argument, I’ve been saying Unity and GBRS mounts are stupid and they reduce your recoil mitigation ability, plus your zero is no longer 50/200 or 36/300 etc etc. plus your cqb holdovers are exaggerated now. I do disagree because using your laser is faster. You’re right you have to compensate for loss of point of contact. But for a “tactical” point if I’m in the room or hallway already with a bad dude the jig is up and I’m faster with a laser. Outside of the building yes have laser discipline. But I want to see you guys do a different video on passive. Get some threat and non threat targets and see how far out you actually see under nods who is bad and good. Either paper threat and non threat targets or Ger a dummy with and without a gun and see passive vs hitting it with IR illumination how far can you actually tell who is bad and good

Brandon, Have you tried this concept with a T2 optic? I must say, when I run a T2 I kinda have to have a higher mount, versus when I use an Eotech, then I can get away with the normal height. Atleast from my experience dry firing.

So question. Say you are running two monoculars connected to work as binos, why is it not common to take off the right monocular, attach it finront of your optic and navigate with your left eye while having your right eye unobstructed to look through the optic illuminated by the mounted monocular.
@USpatriot74177613 күн бұрын
At that point, just use a thermal scope/clip on.
@jordanpohl685613 күн бұрын
Probably because more people don't train to guide their vision with their non dominant eye. Also our brains tend to have problems processing with information overload with different multimedia inputs to independent eyes.
@brad_1388_13 күн бұрын
you can't navigate well with one tube, and you can't shoot fast with it mounted to a weapon
@FDC_Tard13 күн бұрын
Because you can't zero an optic with a PVS14 in front of it since there's no way to shift the image of the target to the reticle, which is how clip-on night vision/thermal optics work. There is a mount that puts a PVS14 behind tour optic, but I've never used one
@tmgjurassic373813 күн бұрын
One of the problems with running one tube is lack of depth perception.
@jackparker119713 күн бұрын
So you say your face should be glued to your rifle and looking down the optic, which is contradictory to other ideologies taught on the channel (ie seeing your target, and moving your weapon to the target instead of having FPS mindset). Does this ideology change when under night vision? Or is this simply difference of shooting style. Thanks!
@JEJAK539613 күн бұрын
Your field of view is severely limited with NV.
@brandon.wombat13 күн бұрын
Being sucked into the optic is never a good thing. But with the limited FOV and the need to line up an optic (the NVG tube) with another optic (the red dot), keeping things lined up can be more beneficial. Normally, in day time shooting, your face can be in contact with the gun and you can still lead with your eyes.
@jackparker119713 күн бұрын
Thank you for your responses, that makes a lot of sense. My limited use with nods only trained on active shooting with a single toob pvs-14, and only for a night to say it was done. I wish to get into night vision shooting but the price point is keeping me out of the scene until next year. Stay safe y’all
