Getting punched in the face is a deadly threat IMO , Ive seen people get KO’d lose consciousness instantly and fall down and crack their head open … I personally would try to warn them not to punch me again or they will get shot. I have to ask a similar question in my case. I'm not a senior citizen yet but I'm not a young man anymore either. I'm paraplegic but I use a manual chair and have decent strength in my upper body. But at this point a retreat would be slower than someone who could run after me. I try not to get into bad situations/areas in the first place but sometimes you don't know where and when an incident will occur.

I like these short videos, as I go about my daily activities I find myself evaluating situations around me! I see some thing and ask myself what's reasonable here how far is to far! In the world we now live in what was normal years ago is not normal/reasonable now. Because of my occupation most times duty to retreat is not an option how ever when I'm not working I ask myself what would be the best thing I could do before avoiding/leaving a situation so it doesn't become a "I could have done some thing!" situation. In the last 2 years of watching this channel and a few others I see a world very different than what I used to see in the past! And I openly admit it scares the crap out of me!!

Love your videos, but you missed a huge part of this scenario. If somebody punches me in the face, then it seems like one of two things is likely to happen next: either they take the one hit and run away, or that punch is the beginning of them trying to really hurt me. If that punch is clearly the start of that person trying to "beat me up" then yes I will shoot if I can. But at that point he (or she, to be fair) is probably all over me and I'm 30 seconds too late to pull out my gun -- which means if that person is serious about attacking me he might discover my gun and go for it. At age 62 if I sense an attack about to happen, and I'm carrying, I'm probably going to pull my gun out, pointing at the ground, and will be yelling at that person to go away.

Thank you for clarifying reasonable threat of imminent death OR grievous bodily harm. However, as bad as it may sound, any physical attack on me WHILE i am carrying is going to raise the threat level - how do we know of the attacker is going to stop after 1 punch? In my mind, if an attacker punches me - his/her actions against me dictates that they are NOT going to stop with one punch. I have NEVER seen an attacker stop with just 1 punch. It has always been multiple, and if they get you on the ground it then becomes a stomping contest. so can you shoot an attacker who punches you in the face? sure. just articulate that you were not ohysically able to stop am attack that could have put you in the emergency room or morgue. you DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU DO NOT KNOW! when you come from the angle that ONLY the attacker(s) know what he/she/they are going to do and what the end goal is, then you have to make a snap decision. that decision will not be hollywood perfect. you CANNOT read minds and very few people read body language well! if a woman gets punched in the face by a male attacker, use YOUR imagination as to WHY that male attacker hit her.....it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

You are lucky you don't live in New Jersey. First, if you had a gun on you and you used it to defend yourself, you would be charged with carrying a handgun without a license. Only cops and special security people in N.J. get to carry handguns (not including the criminals who always carry). And God forbid if you use a hollow point to defend yourself, you will go to jail for years. In New Jersey, its illegal to carry an empty hollow point as jewelry around your neck. In N.J. if you have a self-defense handgun, you must keep it at home, unless you are going to a state approved target range. Then, you must carry the handgun, locked in a box in a separate location from the bullets, which must be kept in a different compartment from the handgun. And, by they way, you must transport directly from your home to the shooting range. Do not stop for gas or to take a leak, or you will be violating the law. How do I know this? I lived in New Jersey all my life and recently moved to Texas where I earned my LTC. Don't get me wrong, the entire Northeastern part of our nation has beautiful geography. I fly small airplanes and I've flown them many times from New Jersey to Martha's Vinyard and to Nantauket back to Block Island and so forth. I love the Northeast, it's beautiful with its changes in seasons. But I distain the political situation and those in office. I see them as un-Americans who are pro-abortion people who care more about themselves than the lives of our little ones. OK, don't get me started. As an American citizen, I'm asserting my 1st amendment rights to say what I feel. Thanks to all of you who have cared to read this.

It really depends. If they punch you and you aren't truly fazed and it's 1v1 try to retreat no matter the stand your ground law (in Florida). If you are followed and attacked again you are probably good cause you tried to leave the threat and you have already been attacked so the intent has been declared. If you are than followed and attacked again it's reasonable you would think that's your only option left. Remember you use it to save saves and yours in this situation cause a punch can kill and if you are knocked out in this fight what would happen to you while on the ground? Try to retreat always if you feel that you can defend with the same amount of force first (very dangerous) which I have done successfully before but you might lose or get disarmed which in my gained wisdom isn't worth risking. Retreat first please

Im from a stand your ground/castle doctrine state in Alabama. For me it depends on scenario and how happened. It wouldn't just be for a single punch, it would have to be a scenario where there would be more likely coming behind it. That would have to be an unhinged person that's unreasonable or someone robbing me. I don't put myself in "fights" or potential fights for the he'll of it. I don't go around obvious sketchy immediate situations or throw the first punch for reasons other than defense. Anything can happen though with someone who may be drunk or aggressive and looking for a fight or misunderstandings or on dope. It can happen anywhere obviously as we've all seen. Im not normally "tried" as I'm decent sized 6'5 and 320lbs and decent shape. But sometimes those folks mentioned look for guys like me to "try" for no reason but mostly in scenarios mentioned. I was tried when younger as kid and also as a teenager and didn't go well for them, but that was then and I also didn't carry then of course. Really depends on situation of what came after or attempted next. I also have some serious health issues now that's gotten worse and others that's develooed that is not always noticeable to folks off the bat. So I'm not really up to fighting for no reason or proving anything like teenagers. Im 37 and my character has always been I try to be nice and calm but also not gonna let someone just keep beating on me either. If I can I will definitely escalate and leave if possible especially if only a punch or slap. Im not taking a life or losing my freedom to show I didn't "take it" from somebody. If I'm kept from leaving or continuously assaulted, that may change quick. I pray that never happens. Im prepared if does. I will say that ever since I've been carrying, I've noticed I'm more cautious and even more willing to defend escalate and just leave. I think of different things of how areas and places are before I go. Im even more responsible but that's good. Appreciate the videos. Sorry this got long lol. 🐍🇺🇸

Also must be necessary to use serious or deadly physical force, for example the perpetrator refuses to stop and same is throwing violent punches, continuously like a powerful "sucker punch" and the perpetrator is going for your gun, it becomes reasonable and necessary to use serious or deadly physical force to stop the threat. Remembering that once the threat is stopped, additionally use or serious or deadly physical force becomes unjustified. A judge or jury can view your first or second shot as justifiable self-defense, but the third or more shots as unreasonable and not necessary resulting to unjustifiable self-defense: jail time.

Of course "it depends". If seen some bar "fights" that were literally one punch, then the assailant walks away. Clearly, the person punched doesn't have a reason to shoot. However, if that assailant has hospitalized people before and has a history of sitting on a downed opponent and keeping punching, then that would be a clear "yes, firearm is reasonable" since more people are beaten to death than killed by rifles (the target of current firearm bans). Big grey area between.

All the laws are for the thug, no matter how bad a person may have been hit, punched or kick. The jury and our wonderful judicial system will stang with the thug. We as a law abiding citizen (victim), are at the mercy of the court. The attacker will win

What makes the author think that the aggressor will stop at 1 punch in the face? If someone lands a punch like that, do you think they will stop? Most of the fights I have seen the aggressor rarely hits someone in the face and then stands there.

Every person in the comment who believes a punch in the face is equivalent in force to a .45 acp bullet is insane IMO. You can definitely PRESENT YOUR GUN, and if they reach and grab a gun and begin to point it at you, or REACH FOR YOUR GUN then you can legally shoot them. Otherwise you are just begging to be convicted of either 2nd degree or manslaughter depending.

About 6 months ago I was assaulted by a drunk driver in Green Bay after he struck my car and tried to take off he pulled over then came up to my car pulled me out him and his girlfriend jumped me pointed a Glock 19 at me I called police after the incident they did absolutely nothing and made excuses for the guy who pointed a gun at my face because he had no insurance was drunk and didn’t wanna go to jail what legal grounds do I have in that situation? I never pulled my firearm out as I felt it was best to keep it concealed to deescalate the situation.💯

One thing is for sure..I hope people that have a hard time controlling their temper read these comments.. Because you don't know what other people are going through..Or the physical disabilities they have just by looking at someone..So before you throw that punch, realize theres a whole lot of people that aren't going to take the chance of severely being hurt.. And you might just end up leaking.. Just an observation

How does one determine what equal force is? A kick or punch to the right part of your body or head can cause great bodily harm or death. People have walked away from gunshot wounds to the head and body. So in some ways using a firearm if someone is trying to punch you would be considered equal force, right?

I physically stopped a man from killing a woman as he kicked her head while she was on the ground.. she ran as I got inbetween them... I then walked away, and as I did, he picked up a 2x4 and swung it across the back of my head... I dropped to one knee, spun around with my hand on my gun and he was walking away thinking he did enough damage ( No so, I got a really hard head).. instead of pulling my gun, I pulled out my phone and called police. They retrieved video from a nearby business and first were shocked I didn't get knocked out and second the amount of restraint I had not to draw my weapon on him.... He was charged with a slew of things including attempted murder as the girl wound up in a coma when they did find her and he was sentenced to 17 years

Someone punches you in the face, you go down and you either hit your head potentially killing you or that person can then easily start stomping on your head killing you. Either way one punch has the potential to cause great bodily harm or death. If someone punches you & you fight back using your hands it not only allows the other person the opportunity to continue their life threatening actions but to increase them. I am disabled and can not defend myself using physical means so if I have to defend myself my only option is a firearm.

With That Being Said Avoid And Keep The Distance While Yelling At The Aggressor To Stay Back Just To Get Others Attention. If The Aggressor Keeps Coming Then Use Deadly Force Because There Have Been Cases Where People Have Lost Their Life By A Punch/ Kick To The Head ..

Great video. Thank you. One thing I worry about though, and have been for a while, is if you're legally carrying, and someone threatens or attacks you, since you're carrying a gun that they could easily get a hold of if they attacked you, aren't you already at a very high risk of serious bodily harm or death? I'm surprised this question or topic never comes up in the gun community (or, that I've ever seen or heard).

Same as everyone else. You can’t speculate of what someone might do, your actions have to be reasonable by inference. He would actually have to go for your gun for it to a reasonable inference. If you think is too risky then don’t carry a gun. Gun owners don’t have special rights over other citizens.

The guy looked like a criminal, he was bigger than me, he threatened me verbally saying he'd hurt me, and he had a friend with him that was also threatening me....now what? By the time these guys get to me, it's too late to draw. I'd be knocked out, and I'd fall on the pavement and probably have several broken teeth or a concussion. Why am I not allowed to prevent that fate from falling upon me?

A professional boxer or a Special Forces operator can kill people by punching in the face. However, in certain case, assuming that the boxer or the operator just want to punch a person to make him feel hurt, but not killing him. Now, are we in a gray area? Shoot the boxer (or operator), or not?

Just thought of something important. Y'all always answer as if all shootings are fatal. I know any time you use a firearm, you are using deadly force. But I'd like to know a bit more about it you wound someone or stop the threat just by displaying a firearm. I've read instances where people got larger sentences for wounding someone than that the average sentence in that state for killing someone. Does that really happen? Most people survive being shot. I've seen stats as high as 75% or more survive.
