The Haider Ackermann Perth Hoodie goes head to head with Rue Porter's blank and I wouldn't have guess how similar these two pieces were until I got my hands on both hoodies.
In today's head to head, I'm reviewing the Haider Ackermann Perth Hoodie (2020 Ssense exclusive) and the Rue Porter Ultra-Heavyweight Hoodie. While there have been many different versions of the Perth Hoodie, I do believe Haider Ackermann is basically the OG behind this super boxy lux hoodie trend and its very possible that Rue Porter will basically bring an end to the trend for good through their extremely affordable and high quality blanks.

I appreciate you making a clear, concise, and honest comparison. Love this type of articulate videos about the subtle details about textile. I have an account with alphabroder (whole sale textile) and about 1 1/2 year ago, I was doing heat press printing on shirts. When starting my "brand" or idea I made one prototype, generated interest and based on the feedback made the product. Hello Christian once again, awesome video. This has to be the best one yet, I've been looking for a boxy hoodie to add to my collection. I think I'll have to go with the Reu Porter hoodies just based off my current status as a uni student. Make no mistake, I love Haider's work and have been looking to purchase a hoodie for the past 6 months, but I just do not see myself spending $600 on a blank, boxy hoodie, perhaps in the future when I work full-time.

If you can design the hoodie well, yes. For me personally, i'm a sucker for minimal embroidery. One of my favorites is the small nike or champion logo embroideries on their products. If you add your own subtle flair to the rue porter blanks, i'd buy them.

Rue Porter quality aside, I made a large $1600 order on Oct 26, and I still do not have the whole order on Dec 23. After weeks in the dark with incredibly slow / sometimes automated emails they stated there was a discrepancy on their inventory, and they offer absolutely no compensation for orders arriving 30 days after their already extended 20-25 business day processing times for "COVID and high demand" After research I found many others shared the same customer service experience or worse (customer service ignoring tickets altogether, etc). Just something to consider when ordering from RP, a deal breaking experience from a b2b perspective.

TL;DR: For the consumer who needs a blank hoodie to lounge around in or something that'll go good with almost everything, Rue Porter is a very strong contender, but does not completely blow Champion Reverse Weave out of the water (IN MY OPINION). You will not be disappointed with either from a fabric standpoint, but the Rue Porter comes with a more unique fit so really its up to you and what you are looking for in a hoodie. For the brand that needs a good blank, Rue Porter is at the top in streetwear circles- good fit, great quality, and somewhat lax wholesale account requirements means that its a really good option for those looking for higher end blanks. Another brand to look into for good blanks is Originalfavorites- been following them for a while, but decided to get a Rue Porter for its more unique fit. Lived with my heather grey Rue Porter hoodie for about a month now, and here's my take on it: Cut wise, i think its a great hoodie in its price range, possibly the best you could get if you're looking for a trendy boxy-cut hoodie. One thing to watch out for is how much the hoodie shrinks if run through the dryer. Not super drastic shrinkage, but its enough to where its noticeable, if that makes any sense- sleeves don't stack up as far as when new, length feels a tad bit shorter (but that is somewhat nullified by the waistband which hugs the waist and folds the hoodie over it), and the hood is a tiny bit smaller. In my case (5' 8", 170 lbs with a little bit of a belly), I think the hoodie still fits well after shrinking, but just something to watch out for. For reference, I usually wear a medium in Champion reverse weave (for a regular fit, not oversized)- I didn't want to swim in fabric, so I got a medium in the Rue Porter, and I have no complaints with it. Fabric wise, I was not underwhelmed, but just satisfied. Fabric is well weighted and somewhat thick, but comparable to Champion Reverse Weave. The reason I word it this way is because a lot of marketing for these hoodies is that they are ultra thick- compared to your Gildan or your generic fast fashion hoodie, this will be a significant step up from those (and these are more environmentally conscious, which is a plus for me!), but if you own a reverse weave hoodie or something comparable to it, don't get your hopes up too much thinking that these are a major step up from them. Nothing to report on longevity, as I simply haven't worn the hoodie for long enough to find any construction shortcomings, but I can confidently say that the hoodie is pretty well made and probably won't fall apart in a year or two.

I have a vintage black wash XL rue porter hoodie and i absolutely love it one of my most worn pieces. Buy one if you want a solid hoodie for any use. Would starting a separate brand rather than releasing under BNW be better for yourself as a brand/channel? Lots of things you wanna think about. As a brand I think you can do whatever the fuck you want in a better way, while if you're making merch for the channel I'd keep it lowkey. But making a brand is an entirely different beast and would probably take more time than this youtube channel. You'd get good experience in producing clothes either way you go. Regardless, do it.
