What a great weekend making memories. Beautiful locations!. We love your style as it’s how we like to travel. Nothing beats swag camping and finding special spots that you can only get in with the vehicle. Way to go Joe with the fishing.

He's a great fisherman and he loves it. I've really liked the last couple of swag trips and I would like to all 4 of us in 2 swags, bet it'll be a massive load on the roof racks though 🤣

Great get away ,yes children do need a lot of things to do when away from anything electrical. It’s just a matter of remembering what we did when we were young & out camping with Mum,Dad,Grandad,Grandma & brothers & sisters. We were either playing football, cricket,swimming or bush walking looking for bugs etc. good on you for going it alone with your son,the best of memories . Elaine from Brisbane.

Love your content. Its realistic camping for most people. Not everyone can afford the big rigs and top of the range caravans. I plan on doing alot of camping when I retire and it will be the simplest I can make it. Loved Joe's excitement catching his fish. Looking forward to your next episode.

A pop up roof top tent is a game changer so easy if it dosnt leak when down tho driving through rain , other wise beats a swag easy when setting up and putting down and very comfortable if u put a nice mattress in it u get a beautiful sleep and great veiws up there
@GoingOverland
@GoingOverland Жыл бұрын
Thanks David, but while the kids are young we still need to tow, which is why we don't run a roof top tent, just too much extra weight. Our trailer is like a pop top roof on wheels and is faster than the swag to set up. 🤠

Good on you for reusing the parts from the old awnings. I've got the top of my old 2mX2.5m awning and use that as a front wall on my current 2.5X2.5 awning at times. I have the rest of the parts in the garage still and plan to use part of it so I can run the cover off the front of my Garage when working on the car or other things there. I love my car camping too, So easy and simple. Much easier than setting up tents and all that crap plus having everything right there in one spot is simple. Sadly I need the tent when the wife comes with me so one day a small camper would be nice. Have you had any issues with the gas bottles being on the roof? I would think they would get really hot up there.
@GoingOverland
@GoingOverland Жыл бұрын
No issues with the gas on the roof, but something to think about in summer, maybe I should add a vent🤔. But I'd like to get away from the disposable gas bottles and maybe get a 2kg bottle. Definitely enjoy the simplicity of the swag and look forward to the next adventure 😀
@OnCountryWithMick
@OnCountryWithMick Жыл бұрын
@Going Overland yeah nice mate. I keep my gas canisters in my drawer. I've had some say not to keep them in the car because it can get so hot in there but I ran some tests in summer before putting them in there and even on 40C days with the car parked in direct sun and locked up all day my drawers didn't get over the outside temp, the rest of the vehicle got hotter than the thermometer could cope with. The cans say store below 50C so I was confident they will be fine and have had no issues. The simple life of camping is what I love. I have my Pajero set up to sleep in the back so for me it is pull out a chair, the awning and a drink.

Awesome video mate. Drifta awning, is that the heavy duty or lighter version? I’ve been thinking about pulling the trigger on one for my GU
@GoingOverland
@GoingOverland Жыл бұрын
It might be the lighter one. It's only 18kg and if you want to live under it, it might be considered to small by most people. But for us it's the perfect compromise between size, cost weight and working with our camper trailer. So far really happy with it, no complaints 👌

Hi Adam. We were camping nearby that weekend and although we did not see you we heard the GQ horn toot on the way past us. On another note. How do you keep the damp /condensation from wetting the matress cover in the swag. It's happend a few times now that the matress gets wet. I'm assuming it's got something to do with a warm body on top of the mattress but the ground being cold. What have you found works best?
@GoingOverland
@GoingOverland Жыл бұрын
I was surprised by how many people knew us down there, it was great getting lots of positive feedback and support. Haven't had any condensation on the mattress yet, but we always leave the windows half open for air flow. Might be different when it's really cold, I'll have to keep a eye out for that. We also lay a tarp down first

We did similar this Easter. Just pointed the mail where we wanted to go and just wing it. ☺ We usually book something beforehand for peace of mind that we have somewhere to park up for the long weekend, but not this time. But in the end we found a great camp spot. Something about the simplicity of swag camping that I like. No fuss and straight forward camping.
@GoingOverland
@GoingOverland Жыл бұрын
Yeah it's a little nerve racking not having a site booked, but there is always somewhere to find a spot to camp, and if a place is fully booked, do you really want to be jammed in with everyone? I really enjoyed this style of travel and it's what we did a lot of on our big lap.

Yeah I'm 6'4, so standing next to the patrol with a 4 inch lift and big tyres you don't really see the hight of the Patrol. I might change the brackets to get the awning up higher, but that can wait for now. Cheers for watching 👍
