Can you still use a 1st Generation Fire TV Stick in 2022?

Yes you can. I use it in 2023 and it was extremely slow until I cut the housing and put a small heatsink on now it runs netflix completely fine. I also installed a software that closes all background apps

I haver on. I cant install Edge, game pass and fire Fox using the downloader. I had tô force the Max app to install on It qnd os really slow on Disney+ and some time It Frozen and back to main screen

I'm still using mine on my 3D Vizio TV. All the Vizio built in apps don't work with the stupid yahoo apps. Lessens learned that you really don't want any tv with built in apps as it will become obsolete. Having a stick will let you always upgrade keeping the same TV. It's always been slow as a Packard bell since I had it. But I did go through and check updates like you did and it has multiple that never installed.

Yes that's right when I bought my smart TV the sales guy said don't buy the TV for the Apps it has, buy it for Sound and Picture quality then get a stick for the apps and just upgrade the stick when it stops supporting the apps, its far cheaper than getting a new TV and the sticks support apps longer than most TV's.

Very useful info especially as I have just dusted down the 1st gen. I thought the update would come as 1 package so it was helpful to note that boring as it is you have to keep going till it stops 😁🙄. 👍👍👍

Actually tried a 1st gen a couple years ago & checked the specs, very slow processor speed & ended up crashing it. Now a Gen 2 up until the new Max had the beefiest processor & worked well after you disabled the 15 Amazon proprietary processes which interfered with it greatly. Many forget but there was a square Gen 2 basically model B which originally had the 4K beat in everything except 1080 was its top resolution & you could disable 55 Amazon proprietary processes.

Yes the 4k and the Max are much better in terms of speed and Quality, just really wanted to see if the apps would still load on the 1st Gen as its now totally out of support..

Thank you, unfortunately 1st Gen Sticks wont work with a VPN I am afraid, you need a generation 2 or higher!

I bought one for 10$, this is great price for the market since even used products are extremely expensive in Turkey. It streams 1080p 5.8 mbps (5800kbps) on netflix, 1080p on youtube and 1080p on amazon prime video. I still didn't try disney plus but ı am already satisfied with my purchase. It's not terrible laggy as people claim. Once you start streaming ıt's fine. There are not many video on youtube about this product and ıt's Full Hd capability. I thought ı would get 480p (sd) quality at best. Sorry for my bad english.
