Can You Throw Your Baseball Glove at the Ball?

Hey man, came across your channel by accident and the "explanation of football for Americans" was the video I landed on. Watched some more and I must say I like your tone of voice :D As that video is your most successful one I have an idea for you... Baseball and even American Football is quite a mystery to Europeans (especially baseball) and I've always wondered how it works. What if off the hit they volley the ball off the thrown glove and catch it before it hits the ground, is the batter out?

If the glove is detached from the hand and it hits the ball, it's not an out, it's three bases. The violation happens the MOMENT that it hits the ball so what happens after that would never be against the batter, UNLESS he tried to go home where he could be thrown out. The ball is not dead, it's still alive, but the batter can go to third "unmolested".

So can you throw your baseball glove to a base with the ball inside it if it is not lodged in the glove?

I dont see why not cause who's to know it was stuck or not as it mightve gotten dislodged once the recieving player caught the glove and ball. However what would be the main advantage as to throwing the glove with a loose ball in it? Its slower, less aerodynamic and at worse it would likely fall out of the glove..

I’ve never read the MLB rulebook (I’m not even sure you can read the whole thing unless you’re in the league), but I imagine the glove is considered an extension of the body while it’s worn, and when it’s thrown to catch a liner that it’s no longer part of the body.

It really shouldn’t be illegal. It’s a very impressive act so idk why they would shut it down.

You're doing something that is "outside the bounds" of the rule. The glove is meant to be on the hand and that is where it should remain. It's a form of "unsportsmanlike conduct" for a player to be allowed to do that.
