The first time I came to Japan for a trip, I came with so little money that all I could afford ( if I wanted to get some warm food) was Matsuya curry. I ate it every single day but didn't get tired of it. I didn't even get to try sushi cause it was so expensive TT but I do think it is worth coming even if you don't get to buy all the funky things and go to all the fancy restaurants. Seeing these places with my own eyes was already the most enriching experience I could ever hope for... Plus Matsuya is still my favourite low budget restaurant even after 2 years of living here. Anyways, hope you get to come back soon 😍

Hi Kim Found your channel a few weeks ago and like it a lot. The content is exactly what I was looking for because my son and I finally plan to visit one of our favorite countries. Did you do a vlog about the diffrent restaurant chains they have? That would be quite interesting. Like where to eat breakfast or dinner, which chain is more like fast food and so on. Japanese dishes are my favorite of all but are there things to consider in Japan... Thanks a lot in advance and greetings from Switzerland! 🇨🇭

In my trip this year (jan-feb) i spent around $3000-$4000(AUD). I went to tokyo (incl disneyss), hakone (hotsprings + gotemba outlet), kyoto, osaka (universal). Try out capsule hotels and business hotels for accommodations!!

Do capsule hotels have showers and lockers?
@にこニコ-c8w4 жыл бұрын
Didjaseemyjams yep! I went to an all girls capsule hotel in akihabara and paid $30 ish which provided a locker with pajamas and towels! The shower rooms are in one big room but are in cubicles, and after the shower they provide cleaners, moisturizers and a hairdryer in a separate room. There were also designated lobby’s/chill rooms where people can talk to friends or do work. If u ever get thirsty or hungry during the night, they even have vending machines.

KZbin videos about traveling to Japan, many of which were yours, helped me a lot with planning the trip my friends and I took over Christmas and new years in 2018-19. So thank you for that. You mentioned in this video how Airbnb is an affordable option which is totally true especially for larger groups but it comes with a risk. I booked a 7 day stay in an airbnb over now years way back in August because I was warned how busy it is that time of year. less then 5 weeks before we were to arrive I got a notification that the owner of that airbnb had canceled our booking, giving no reason why. Now all the places within our budget were gone and I was left scrambling to find us a place. I ended up getting us a place that was still over our budget and ended up being way to small for the four of us. We made it work and still enjoyed Tokyo but it really was the worst part of the entire trip and caused us a lot of stress and poor nights sleep. This is just a warning for people using airbnb. I've used it a lot locally here in Canada but I am now weary of it when over seas since suddenly finding yourself with out a place to sleep is so much more scary in another country.

These are really good tips that I also follow when I travel to Spain. I always wished that people would know these things and do their research. You can tell when a person didn’t bother doing any research when they end up spending so much money simply because they fell in the tourist traps lol. I do plan to eventually go to Japan and definitely with at least one other person so good to know these tips. Thanx Kim!
@kimdao4 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah definitely. I always tell people to do research first and not buy things without thinking.. e.g JR pass. I get asked that question so many times but to be it’s just common sense haha, add up ticket prices and see if it’s worth it? XD

Your content is always so helpful! It keeps inspiring me to re-plan the whole trip I was going to take when COVID-19 hit hahaha... very sad to have lost 15% of the value on two JR passes, each for 2 weeks, that I had to return. Totally wouldn't have been worth it for a trip from Tokyo to Osaka and back anyway though, so I wonder if the cost is actually better this way since I probably won't be replacing them. Who knows!

I actually studied Japanese at university so when I moved to Japan it was a lot easier! The easiest way to learn is to make Japanese friends! Since I left Japan it’s hard to practice so I’ve forgotten a lot, but I used to spend a lot of time with my host family in Japan and that forced me to speak Japanese

I took my first trip to japan in February right before COVID hit *got really lucky* and coming from California tokyo in my opinion was really cheap! I think i saved a lot of money by not doing any big touristy things like Tokyo Disney, i had more fun just walking around taking in the beautiful neighborhoods eating and drinking at small local places i came across, and i booked a business hotel in Akasaka and I’m glad i did! It was right next to the station, it was big for western standards, and it was sooo nice! and everywhere in tokyo was only 10-15 mins away by train! Staying in like shinjuku or Shibuya can get expensive because its very touristy

I really really hope so! Unfortunately I can’t predict anything, but I don’t recommend booking anything until Japan announces that borders are open. Getting refunds from airlines take ages and is a pain :(
