One thing for ATF m42 helmets and the others is that they're chinese made by a factory called JKD, The m42 unfortunately is no longer being produced since 2 years ago, however the m35 and m40 are still being produced, But the shape of the new m35 and m40 are a bit different (still similar). the leather is now of a improved quality however it's only in a 68 size

I was wondering what happened to them and why they are not available do you have any more information on this company I was wanting a m42 repro from atf for a while but could never find out why they were always out of stock

you could use it right away as is if you use a cover for it. then you can mod it until you achieve its final form. i believe the extra hole on the side was for chinstraps which the earlier 3 pad liner did not mount.

From my best guess I’d say that the factory probably had limited supplies and whatever was available was made, although, can you remove the chinstrap from the liner?

Say many of the too old, to fat, out of shape, non German speaking, never served in combat, or never served in any military? But I have more money than you. Want ta bez, please! Put on a proper chin strap and a helmet cover and call it good. How many Fallschirmjager do you think are wearing a original helmet, smock, trousers, and gas mask bag? You know, about 25 thousand green backs worth of kit in just those four items. I started re-enacting back in 1979. When you could buy a 1,500 dollar FJ bandolier for 20 to 40 bucks and paid 25 bucks for a M38 double decal FJ helmet from an old war Vet who took a liking to me cause I was active duty airborne at the time. Back then it was about learning as much as we could from actual WW2 Vets and first hand accounts. Learning actual tactics, and about daily life. As it was usually either mundane, routine, or living and dying hell. With many issued items either sucking, or constantly needing repair in the field? Or finely getting the gear for the season about a week after the season was over. Anyway, back then we had a ten foot rule? If it didn’t suck at ten feet away? You were good to go for re-enacting. We had volunteers for public displays up close and personal. Displaying all original items if possible. Mayhap we were more forgiving because back then one could count on one hand those that made reproduction anything camo. And most repro uniforms were converted Swiss etc. and there was no internet. So you’d hit the Gun Show’s, and antique shops, swapmeets, yard sales, and Shotgun News for the occasional finds. So personally, if it can pass the ten foot rule? I would still say it’s a go. Just be in shape, somewhat, know your tactics, unit history, and most importantly… Have fun! Thanks for the Video, friend
