Have you checked one of your own original essays in the AI checker? I've done this out of curiousity and came back with a score that says it is likely my essay was written by AI (despite it being an essay i wrote before ever even hearing of chatGPT etc.). I think those AI checkers can confuse any writing that's written in academic language

I've used chatgpt to brainstorm ideas for a paper mainy because I hadn't written a paper in almost 10 years and really just needed to see what a written out essay looked like. I didn't use anything from the essay and had completely different headings and citations. I ran my essay through a zerogpt when I was finished. There were only 3 highlighted portions. The funny part was they were just 2 original very well written sentences and one very long list of authors from my reference page.

So essentially, you are demonstrating how to use AI to write a very cliched and thoughtless essay and then tweak it to avoid being detected. If my students submitted an essay this bad, I would fail them even it wasn't AI.

The purpose of this video is to discourage students from using AI by proving that it does not work if a students intention is to use it to write their essays (even with tweaks). I was curious so i put a paper i wrote entirely myself through zerogpt and it came up multiple whole paragraphs highlighted 💀 I think I've just made myself anxious of being accused of plagairism via AI before I've even asked it for help

Oh, no! Since I actually came up with this idea in the comments section of your last video, I was hoping I was going to get mentioned by name in this video, or at least get to do a collaboration video (ha ha). Anyway, I just thought of another idea. What if someone used AI just to create an "outline" for their paper, and then they rewrote the paper in their own words? Would the Honor Code or the AI checker still consider that a cheating violation?

Hey John! This video was made weeks ago. The reason being is that many people have asked the same questions you asked in the last video. And to answer your other question - Yes, you can absolutely use AI to create outlines for papers without being flagged for cheating as long as you write the material within the outline yourself.
