" Can you wheelie on a unicycle? " A question I get asked too often and joked about with too much 🥲 Are there unicycling manual tricks and can you manual a unicycle?
➡️ In this video I'm going to be answering these big questions! You may be surprised to find that like BMX, scootering and skateboarding manual tricks - we have our own unicycle balance tricks. I'm also going to dive in and look at what nose manualing on a unicycle might also look like. We'll also be opening up a big can of worms here by asking; how similar are these balance tricks to bmx manualing or manualing on a skateboard? Can we even call these tricks "manuals" or "wheelies" in unicycling?
So let's do a unicycle wheelie and get to it! Hope you enjoy these unicycling tricks (and if you do please share your love in the comments 😉 )

That's a philosophical question right there! One time a little kid started following me on his little bike and asked for a wheelie, so I did a one foot coast. But he said that that was not a wheelie, then he did a small wheelie and said: "see? You need to rise a wheel"; so I did a hop and the kid got super impressed. It actually got me thinking about the ontology of the wheelie, is a wheelie defined by what is in touch with the ground or by what is not anymore in touch with the ground 🤔
@jacksebbenunicyclist
@jacksebbenunicyclist 2 жыл бұрын
That is actually super deep dude haha. I mean I defined it as "removing points of contact with the ground" But I didn't think about it any deeper than that 😅Yeah, then wouldn't hopping on a unicycle be considered a wheelie then? A point I totally missed asking in this video haha

Thanks Eli, that means a lot coming from you. Dude it's never too late to learn! Coasts are my go to for how low impact they are. If you're looking for something hard but light on the body, avoid the explosive bangers and stick to coasts man - seriously

I feel like the ultimate variation is the no footer coasts, the way ivar , ayrton, and pablo do them. I still can't get past 2 revs but it looks so sick!!

What a fascinating and intriguing moral and philosophical quandary: can the one-wheeled device remove half of its wheels from the ground? (derived from the idea that the skateboard removes 2 of 4 wheels from the ground, and the bicycle 1 of its 2). What defines half of a wheel in this case? Does half of a wheel count as a wheeled-transport mechanism? Truly a question to challenge the known concepts of automotive and mechanical engineering as a culture and an idea. Magnificent. The very ontological security of the enigmatic circle is at stake.

on the board the manual is so close to the basic standard riding. with this i mean that when gaining control in your four manny stances you get much closer to riding fluent with use of pivots when needed, weight shifting between any of your feet, even popping in those different stances have similarity as theyre kind of exaguration of that initial lift (just take it higher and manual up in the air). I might be bias here and never learnt the board before i already got it on the une but i think the onefootrides might be close to manuals in difficulty and in how they feed back to your stability in normal riding. But coasting has the same mechanics. Ever since your forward scuff at naucc to louis coastable to mimo starting to coast we now know that this is how to paint curbs and blocks 👌
@jacksebbenunicyclist
@jacksebbenunicyclist 2 жыл бұрын
That's also a good point - manuals on skateboards don't take too much work either (comparably to other tricks in skateboarding) and that works very similar to 1 foot rides in Une. I mean if you can ride a une/skateboard then you can probably hold a small 1foot ride/manual then. 1 foot ride is actually a really close candidate for a "manual". Good thought Ivar ^^

Yes Mate!! Loving the content. Makes me want to ride and film more. Just waiting on Melbourne's restrictions to ease so I can hit more skateparks! I don't think there is anything quite like a wheelie on a unicycle. The only thing close would be a freewheel unicycle with a brake. That's got t be something like a balance point brake feathering wheelie on a MTB. I feel like you're right re two foot off coasts being the closest to manuals on terms of body movement. But also like you said, the one foot coasts looks the best and works the easiest for street stuff by the seems. That Josef coast on a pad is crazy man... Keep these coming :)

Man, thanks for all the feedback you've been giving on my videos, always in good stuff man :) Yeah I was thinking BC wheel or freewheels would be close to manualing. Just sucks that it's a constant manual when riding them. Yeah the 2 foot coast looks most like a manual (if we're comparing to BMX) but the 1 foot coast (in my opinion) looks way cooler and has way better utility for sure. Thanks, I really want to make them consistent and really start throwing them in some street lines!

i think the real difference between bmx and unicycle is not _1 wheel / 2 wheels_ but _fixed gear / free pigon_ . the wheelie on a fixed-gear bike is very close to the unicycle (this is where its origin comes from with penny-farthing...) but i relate to your feeling of the coasts
@jacksebbenunicyclist
@jacksebbenunicyclist 2 жыл бұрын
Aaah okok, never thought of that. So unicycling itself would be the original "wheelie" then, if we're talking fixed gear?

Ya, sorry to break it to you, but a wheelie on a unicycle is just a bunny hop. Hundreds of times, whenever anyone asks me to "pop a wheelie" I start bunny hopping and I say, "Wheelie, wheelie, wheelie!" usually ending with... Isn't that wheelie neat?

@@jacksebbenunicyclist You guys are the next generation of advanced unicycle riders pushing street tricks. I think the "wheelie question" ends with a unicycle, and the question continues as "what's the next hardest way to ride a unicycle" which becomes quite clear in two ways: a.) Remove the seat: becomes an ultimate wheel, and getting half way there is a trick SIF(seat in front)...which I'm proud to say I can do. b.) Remove the pedals: or simply no foot on pedals and all control is "whatever" you can grasp: foot on wheel, foot on frame or just sitting on the saddle.
