Might have been an idea to show what happens if black underpromotes to a knight.

The longest line I can think of after underpromotion to a knight would be. a1=N+ Kc3 Nc2 Qf5 (pinning the knight) Ka2 Kxc2 Ka1 (or Ka3) Qa5#

At 7:35 in the video, Q-c3 isn't mate immediately, black has b2 to block (only legal move, in fact), then Qxb2 mate. Minor clarification.

When i played it against the computer he promoted to knight.

knight prolongs it, but probably can't even draw it.
@AbouTaim-Lille13 күн бұрын
@@landen99 By only one extra move. As Queen to F5 will pin the knight and he has to move the knig away so that you take the knight WITH YOUR KING in case that king move was to A1!

Makes sense because it prolongs the game and computers don't concede. It is a check, so white goes Kc3 or someplace to avoid further checks. Queen versus knight is an easy win for white by several strategies.

I was wondering what was wrong with taking the black pawn as it moved forward (either directly or en passant), then I realised it lead to a stalemate.

Cool puzzle. I figured on Bishop to a1, but I had to count moves from there. I thought at first Kc1 Was The better option, but when I played it out in my head, I saw the problem. So I did solve it even though it wasn't intuitively my first instinct.

Easy. When black does not capture the bishop with the pawn and queens this is a nice variation. 1. Ba1 b5 2. c6 b4 3. c7 b3 4. c8=Q b2 5. Qf5+ Kxa1 6. Qe5 Kb1 7. Qe1# {White mates} 1-0

That is actually a beautiful variation. Qe5 pins the b2 pawn which forces Black to move into a checkmate nearly smothered by his own pawns.

Got it. But only examined White K to c2 and saw that it wins; did not see that K to c1 is a bad move.

after black plays b5 white could take en passant I presume.
@YourAverageChessPlayer12 күн бұрын
Depending on the position that would work too. We just have to make sure black doesn't run out of moves to make in that scenario
@HistoryEnthusiast19195 күн бұрын
That would be stalemate
