Hey, heres a history lesson for ya. After Pontiacs War, Native American sovereignty was recognized and applied to everything west of the Appalachian mountains by the British Empire in 1763 - which no law has overruled to this day. It was the French who lost the seven years war. Peace treaties were made with tribes and then later distorted in an unhonoured usufactory agreement. It was so that America would not annex Canada during confederation. Canada should be recognized as two sovereign nations.

@@binnysan Yeah I know about countries that have had a long history that has impacted humanity as a whole like Egypt/China or countries surounding us like the U.S, but not every country. My background is Afghan, but I was born in Canada so I've been to Afghanistan multiple times and have an idea of what they know/think about Canada. I have cousin who up until I came along (I'm the first person in my family to be born outside of Afghanistan) thought slavery still existed in Canada, it was really weird trying to get them to understand it's not a thing anymore. They don't know much about Canada because they were never taught it in school, for multiple reasons. The first being Afghanistan is a third world country and most schools most likley don't have the funding to teach the history of countries that don't directly affect Afghanistan, second though I love Canada in comparison to the rest of the world it is a rather new country and hasn't existed for long meaning there hasn't been any huge impact by Canada that the rest of the world needs to note, and the most likely reason being Canada isn't involved in Afghanistan's history much especially these days. The most Afghan's know about Canada is what they hear on the new from time to time, which happens to be protests and stuff (which is why I think thought slavery was a still a thing), and the fact that Canadian troops were sent in a while back, but it's not like your average Afghan would see them on the regular. I'm using Afghanistan as an example, but of course every countrie is different, the point I'm trying to make is yes you learn about other countries but not every country. I doubt the average Canadian knows much about Afghanistan's history, for good reason. Now I'm not saying I don't want people who come to Canada to not learn about Canada's history, I do and I think it's a very interesting one, I'm just saying they don't really have a reason. They could continue living their entire life in Canada completely fine without knowing an ounce of Canadian history, to me it's kind of sad. My mom has been in Canada for 19 years and never knew anything about Canadian history until I started talking with her about it, and it has given her a new found respect for her new home. Many also just don't have the time, people who come here are probably trying to learn the language while attempting to get a job and probably have to provide for a family. Also just realized this is hella long I'm sorry.

A true example of systemic racism - Canada's INDIAN ACT? The INDIAN ACT reduced Canada's Aboriginal peoples to legal status as minors. Therefore the Ottawa government of Canada set up a system of apartheid against the First Nations. This discriminatory system must be considered as systemic racism since it is based on laws and principles consciously developed and accepted by the majority of citizens even today. This reality, unworthy of a country that calls itself evolved, largely determines the troubled relations that have existed between Aboriginals and non-Aboriginals since 1876. An example of discrimination resulting from this law: The INDIAN ACT does not confer any property rights on the Native people since it is impossible for them to buy the lands in the reserves, this one being the exclusive property of the Crown, Crown which belongs to the British Monarchy to which King Charles III was recently elected non-democratically, in office by blood ties only. This state of affairs therefore limits the ability of Aboriginal people to borrow and reduces their financial autonomy. They have different rights from other citizens simply because of their Aboriginal status. This form of segregation is a blatant demonstration of systemic racism. And Canada has NEVER honored a single treaty with Canada's First Nations.

Studying genes to come to the conclusion that a group entered a continent at a certain time seems like sheer speculation. Michael Gaudette Don’t even say genocide in Canada is historically inaccurate. The definition of the word genocide in accordance with the UN lists factors that classify whether or not it is actually genocide. With this in mind, it can be said that the residential schools were an act of genocide. Also, just recently the inquiry for MMIW classifies the MMIW as an act of genocide. So technically, when First Nations people scream genocide, they’re not wrong. Canada has committed acts of genocide and that’s a fact.

@@omzzzz5186 Glad to know :). Thankfully, things are moving in a positive direction in Canada, and I am very happy about it. Government has started to acknowledge their rights and the atrocities perpetrated on them . National Truth and reconciliation day is one example. But there is a lot more to be done. Still, the rate of hate crimes against indigenous people is high and majority of them live in poverty. I don't mean to sound preachy but we all have to do our part so that they can live happily in this society. Inclusivity is required. I am glad to see Canadian universities taking a step in this direction. McMaster has an indigenous department now. Personally, I have decided to volunteer for an indigenous NGO and donate. Its a very small step but a small step by each one of us can make a significant change🙂.

@@StevenRoberts77 Is it? Isnt racism the byproduct of western civilization? No one has divided this world more than the west- racism, imperialism, class segregation, inequality because of capitalism etc etc etc. Most of the present third world countries were richer than the west before they became victims of the west's greed and looted. How do you say, "economic divisions"? Have you read about their culture? Economic divisions are the result of capitalism and bureaucracy, given to this world by the west. Worst case, they were a third world country, atleast they would not have been the victim of intergenerational trauma perpetrated because of mass killings and sufferings. Wouldn't that be better or that we justify the murder of 12 million people by assuming that it would have been a third world country if they were alive?

When are people going to understand that land is not something that is your forever. People come, people go. My indigenous white country is full of Africans and Asians. Our native culture is dissapearing rapidly. Our Dutch land is clearly not ours to keep. So should America belong to folk who where native once? And didnt they come from somewhere else? Nothing is yours. Not really. If life is a circle, like the native American people say, and everything will return to you what once was yours.. then what will that be? It will be nothing. Came on this world with nothing and you will leave this world with nothing. Thats the only circle that will be closed, ever. That land we call America is from itself. The land has no preference in whoever lives on it. There is no spirit in the sky who deceids wich folk is entitled to what land. The land just is. The only thing: dont murder, rape or divorce people of their loved ones you find living already on the land you are entering. Be nice, say hello and how are you, ask where the neirest water source is located and help someone out a little. Respect the people who welcome you. Share. Show interest in the land because you are starting a life on it. Understand that there is culture present but also feel free to make your own culture. Respect again. Invite. Learn the common language and speak your own language as much as you want. People will learn to read you as well. But claim on land is the most unreal thing there is. Thats a fact.
