Are there no clinics in Canada... emergency is for emergency situations not for check ups. This is complete miss use of resources since it's free doesn't mean you go there for blood works and routine checkup

Going to Gp is also free and we have option, but kids were serious and we suspected Malaria/Dengue..

Immigrants do the same in the UK too and is so frustrating!! It’s a waste of our (the taxpayers) money!! Going to the GP costs less to the taxpayer and that should always be the first point of call when you’re poorly and it’s not an accident or emergency!! If GP isn’t available, then walk in clinics, but certainly NOT the accident or emergency department in the hospital!!! 😡

First of all prayers and wishes for the kids! Hope they get well soon! But bhai bari baat a k emergency men b inho ne 4-5hrs men bula lia a! Apko urgent care jana chahye tha, tabyat kharab hona is not an emergency. Kher urgent care men b wait hota a, but depends k apki tbyt kitni khrb a. Men urgent care gya tha with my pregnant wife and they probably kept us on wait for 30-45mins max. Jaldi bari ajati a if you are vulnerable or seriously sick. And definately as compared to Toronto and Vancouver, wait time are much lower. Wahan tou 8,8 hrs ka wait suna hai!

Well said! Accident & Emergency (that’s what we call it in the UK) is for EMERGENCIES ONLY!! It’s an abuse of public taxpayer money when people use this service when it’s not an emergency!!

From my experience, I'd rather go to a walk in cliinc, in this situation, rahter than emergency. Emergency only on a holiday or during night when no walk in is available, or Godforbid if there's really a life or death situation! Stay safe and prayers for quick recovery.

You’re right. But finding a walk-in clinic is another difficult work, as we don’t have the family dr. right now. And these drs in children’s hospital do thorough testings, better than any gp.

You are right about testing, but walk-in clinic is different than family doctor though. If you have minor issues and don't have family doctor, you can look for nearest walk-in clinic, call them and get instnat treatment without an appointment (most walk-in clinics)

Best wishes and prayers for the kids. For accommodation I would suggest getting a well-furnished apartment for a month or two then once you are familiar with the city check out the desired location and house. Most of our Pakistani community in Calgary is living in the Northeast from West Wind to Saddletown NE. All the best and good luck

It’s the same in the UK, some of these immigrants (I don’t have a problem with the hard working ones as my parents were immigrants in the 1960’s) have no intention of working a full time job after they get their permanent residency/passport etc! And it’s these type of people who’s children will end up on government welfare benefits/handouts/“freebies” etc!! Alhumdullilah, my late father taught us not to claim welfare benefits and taught us the importance of hard work, which is why we’re now financially successful. BUT, there were other people who arrived (to the UK) at the same time as my Dad, who stopped working and their wives and children didn’t work either and until this day, they’re still living on government money!!!

Emergency means several broken bones, heavy bleeding, etc. in an accident. Emergency means fallen from hieght. Emergency means victim of stabbing or gun shots, etc, having heavy bleeding. Emergency means heart attack. Emergency means anything that needs immediate care or the person would die. Emergency means your vitals are unstable, your blood pressure is down, you have difficulty breathing, oxygen levels are falling, etc. Emergency is not for tbyt kharab, you go to your doctor or you can go to urgent care if you want same day doctor consultation. The system prioritizes severe patients and filters out stable patients. A nurse checks you immediately upon arrival, and if your vitals are stable, it's not an emergency.

Waiting for 4 hours in emergency is not emergency....seems like very pathetic system.....AKU and South city hospitals are much better than this. If u say its free , education free, good environment and letting down Pakistan its not fair....You are paying that too much amount in renting so whts the advantages of free school n medical? Karachi is way better in terms of schooling and medical...

Karachi’s rent is touching the roof, you’re only good if owning a home, otherwise life is tough there too. We pay for private hospital care over there but if you go to govt. hospital in Karachi you get to wait in emergency either
