Same in healthcare, immense administrative bloat. Canada pays more for its universal health care than all the other developed nations with universal healthcare. There are 38 OECD countries (seen as the most “developed” nations) and 31 have universal health care, including Canada. Canada ranks at the top of these 31 for spending per capita on healthcare but only ranks 28th for how many physicians we have. Same story for frontline staff like nurses. We pay the most and get the least. Except that we get more and more health admin each year and their salaries grow much, much more each year than frontline staff. Germany is widely considered to have the best and most efficient healthcare system and Canada has more than double the health admin per capita (after adjusting for difference in population size) than Germany. What on earth are we doing with more than double the health admin when our wait times are insane and worsening, frontline staff shortages and burnout is worse than ever and still worsening, etc etc. (For the data mentioned, see the McDonald-Laurier Institute’s report, “Canada’s Governance Crisis”, free and easy to find online)

On the downside, this strike is costing people, especially small businesses that rely on CP, a lot of money. On the upside, this will probably be the last postal strike. I'm not sure if it's possible to put the final nail in your own coffin but that's what the postal workers are doing. The work is not unforgiving, please strap 50lbs to your back and go walk in the snow for 4 hours + and see how you do. The management and CEOs make way more and took bonuses, the hourly employees have not had any raise in over 6 years. They worked through the pandemic with no safety measures. How can you not see that its poorly run by management and still blame the line level worker. Every worker wants the company to transition, the company has been staring down the barrel of declining volumes for 10 years and done nothing. The employer is the problem not the employee.

I'm honestly not interested in taking sides in the labor dispute. It's understood that nobody should add anything else to the system, but if packages were sent before the strike started (e.g. from other countries), can't they let those through? If CUPW insist in involving my expensive things in their dispute, and making this holiday season a nightmare for many Canadians who are actually _less_ well off, I take the corporation's side. Canada Post should clear the backlog by handing packages off to private couriers. This is an unacceptable situation.

Instead of ordering us back to work maybe the government should order the corporation to sit down and negotiation a deal. @forzacatainapalermo2 күн бұрын
@Starwood362 i think both sides can share the blame. Both sides had year to negotiate and figure out a deal. Perhaps both sides needed to treat this with a sense of urgency for the past year. A mediator should have been brought a long time ago. But now the union is using the strike as leverage right before black Friday and the holiday season which also hurts a lot of innocent canadians and businesses that rely on CP and it's services. As I mentioned in another post, in the US, law was invoked to prevent USPS from going on strike because Americans rely on their postal system to operate. Perhaps the federal government needs to think about doing something similar here...but of course that won't happen because votes would be compromised

1. Union workers have been getting very little wage increases for the last 10 years. So give us 2% a year increase for 10 years basically add up to 20%. We're only taking back what we didn't get for the last 10 years all at once. That's all. 2. Canada Post corporation hired whole bunch of supervisors who make more than union workers in the past 2 years. If they lower their management employee fix cost, they would have been better financially. They keep spending money on the wrong thing and blamed union workers for their mistakes. Time to spend money on the people who do the real work, instead of hiring people walking around the plant and do Nothing. 3. Union workers have not been on Full Strike for at least 10 years. Look at what it got us? Nothing. That's why we are on Full Strike this time. That's what got us on the negotiation table. 4. "Only so far we can go" Really? Tell the CEO to take a 22% cut and higher management to take 22% cut and you will find the money.
