The lyrics are taken from an old amazing poetry ifound this translation: Tell the beauty in the black veil, what have you done to the pious worshipper? He was rolling up his sleeves, getting ready for his prayers when you stopped him at the door of the mosque. God is Greater! God is Greater! O you who call to God with upraised hands, begging and beseeching the saviour. O you who seek his intercession tomorrow (on the Day of Judgement), tell the beauty in the black veil For she has stolen from him his religion and his conviction, and left him bewildered, without guidance Give back to him his prayer and his fasts - don’t kill him for the sake of the religion of Muhammad! Give back to him his prayer and his fasts - don’t kill him for the sake of Jesus and Ahmad (Mohammad)

What you see behind onstage are the photo of Baalbeck ruins of the famous Roman Temple of Jupiter. Baalbeck was known at the time as Heliopolis, the City of the Sun. This is different from the Heliopolis in Egypt.... This was probably done as there were many Lebanese in the audience, so he chose Baalbeck Temple.

@IJayReaction, no he's not the conductor (maestro) of his band, but as you might also noticed in Georges Wassouf's live performance, a singer sometimes has to give signs to the band when he wants to get off the tempo or musical notes in general, or even to request a repetition for a certain part.

The instrument you referred to is called “”Al kanoon” (القانون), and it’s used in all Arab classic songs. I’m surprised you said you didn’t see it in Egyptian songs when you have reacted to a lot of Umm Kalthoum and other Arabic songs. If you go back to any of Umm Kalthoum’s songs, the guy playing the instrument, usually sits right behind her.

My dear friend Jalal: The santoor is different from the Qanun machine: The santoor or santur (from Persian: santoor) is an oriental musical instrument. It has two sides, the lower side is larger than the upper side, and 5 holes separate them. The instrument contains 76 strings, with each 4 strings connected to one bundle. One of its strings is made of iron, and the other strings are made of bronze and copper, and they are of two colors: white strings and gold strings. The history of making and playing the santoor goes back to 2500 years BC. This instrument was discovered for the first time in Babylon, and the first civilization known to use the santoor were the Babylonians, who embodied the santoor in their historical epics, such as the Epic of Gilgamesh, with numbers on which the santoor was engraved. It has spread as a well-known oriental dish throughout the world. The santur differs from the Qanun in the way it is played. The qanun is played with two plectrums made of silver that are worn on the index fingers of the player's right and left hands, and then he plucks them on the strings in front of him. As for the santur, it is played by striking its strings with two small wooden paddles, and the sounds are changed by moving the supports that support the strings, which are usually made of wood.

A very strong voice. In the Arab world, there are four peerlessly strong voices, Sabah Fakhri (Syria), Wadi’ Al Safi (Lebanon), Nazem Al Ghazali (Iraq), and Umm Kalthoum (Egypt). Umm Kalthoum’s larynx is much stronger than the other three voices, despite the fact that she’s a woman. Umm Kalthoum sang a lot of songs based on improvisations, such as Beredak which she sang in the 1940s. It was a religious song in which she was beseeching God. It is a very heart-touching song which is just 4 minutes long, yet touches the listeners’ feelings very deeply.

Hi Jay I have a suggestion for you regarding Arabic songs. Many Arabic songs have very deep meanings. Also It may have a certain story behind it. I suggest that you open the door for suggestions to the Arabs so that they can nominate the songs and their meanings or their translation and story, if any, for you. Thus, you can include this information in your videos. I think this will increase the interaction of your videos and enrich the channel you may use youtube community for that Hope you like the idea

Actually this song have a very interesting story even some Arabs don't know about it , back in the days there was a fabric dealer who used to sell hijabs or like we call it some times khimars ,and women used to buy all the colors but they didn't buy the black ones and he started loosing money , a friend of his heard about his story and he was a poet so he wrote a poem about a very beautiful woman wearing a black khimar who stole the heart of a religious man who was going to the mosque , and suddenly all the women wanted to buy a black khimar like the pretty woman in the poem as it became trendy ..and that's how most of women back in time started wearing black khimars since the ottoman empire till the1920th and some still wear it till now or so says the legend 😂
