A friend has one of these that he did a lot of remedial work to. The doors are worked by air rams/compressor and the engine has upgrades. My one drive of the thing was uninspiring. Looks great though :)

I grew up in New Brunswick, and the whole thing was hilarious. A neighbour had one and because I was skinny, I was the one who got to climb in the back hatch each time the doors broke. Cool orange junk.

Malcom Bricklin was a shyster who left behind a trail of unpaid people and broken promises. This car was over-hyped and under-developed and the build cost far exceeded what he'd said it would be which didn't set well with those who had financed him, including the Canadian government. There were lots of problems with the doors being the biggest one. Had he been more honest I'd feel sad for him and his dream car.

I’m surprised Bricklin never ended up in the jail. He sure knew how to scam money.

How do you make a small fortune? Start with a large fortune, and pretend to be a cowboy. 12:24 I don't think Bricklin's personal (lack of) work ethic could drive up the costs that much. It had to be the workers.

The taillights of the De Tomaso Pantera were also sourced from another manufacturer, Alfa Romeo.

I remember seeing these in a parade on warren ave in Detroit, and asking my dad about them… he was a designer for GM… he told me they look sporty but they were junk 😂

No worse than that overblown piece of junk DeLorean...........

Almost a 'fake it till you make it' story but differs since the the objective was tangible / visible. Thus at least this idea was not just metaphysical // non existent as was the case with elizabeth holmes / Theranos. And its there the advantaged side of things end!. Well apart from the way its prespective 2D design lead to a good clay model thanks to a talented pro designer. The reality was that every bricklin sent to a dealer for sale was a 3D prototype & that bricklins business model was altogether impossible.

Ah yes, the Yugo. A car whose US future was ruined after one was blown off the Mackinac Bridge.

It's a shame about the faults as that car showed real promise. And would have been a car ahead of it's time just by looking at the design.

It looked good, but remember even Chevrolet couldnt make profit out of the early Corvette because it was radical.History maybe shouldnt be so harsh on the Bricklin.Maybe they need a film to give it a bit more love like another bad sports car.....

What a truly amazing car 😮😮😮 It got beaten so hard with the ugly stick it made the Edsel look good and the guy in charge had so many fiddles and scams going on he made DeLorean look honest and the windscreen falling out is a pure genius safety feature which has been copied by boeing with their extra emergency door free of charge.

Ironically, the Yugo was also available in certain parts of Canada. (Probably not New Brunswick however). When I was a kid in the 70s and 80s, I very much wanted to own an SV-1, I thought they were sexy as hell.

Quite good, but I have a few corrections. First, at 3:00, New Brunswick is not in the far northeast of Canada. Only 2 other provinces have a northernmost point that is farther south: PEI and Nova Scotia; and 4 of the other 9 provinces have points farther east than New Brunswick. It is neither far north, nor far east. Second, New Brunswick and its government keep getting referred to as a state. It is not a state. It is a province, so even when referring to government bail-outs, they are "provincial" bail-outs, not "state" bail-outs. Other than lazy geography research, I liked this video a lot.

Lol, I thought that as well. DeLorean might have seen this play out and rubbed his hands together. With a British Tory Gov. run by 'that woman', who still sought 'to rule the waves' with dodgy navigation, DeLorean also might have seen them as easy money!

Gull wing doors: Check out how long Lamborghini built normal doors before venturing into funky doors. You have to be a well and solid established manufacturer before doing shite like that. Somebody who thinks he can start with this feature is simply delusional.
