It's heartbreaking to see glaciers disappear. I walked on a vast glacier at mt. Rainer in Washington State, USA as a child of 5. Now 64 years later it is completely gone. Those clear lakes and breathtaking mountains of Banff are true treasures! How wise of the Canadian government to see that many years ago and preserve these as pristine parks.

Saw and rode Columbia Icefields in 1969. Right along the highway. Travelled there about 7 years ago, and it was miles away from the melting. Kind of sad.

I’ve been asked how we are in our daily life by American friends online who haven’t been here. They always say how easy going I am, how friendly and seemingly happy with everything that’s going on in the world. Keeping in mind their terrible situation right now. So, I’ve been using my videos of hiking Pacific Rim Trail and your videos to help them. Your videos have many of my American friends really loving your life view and energy. They like me too, but you’re videos are way better and more professional. So I want to say thank you for being here and keep our way of life alive and well❤️

I been across Canada several times from Ontario and i miss those days a lot.Western Canada was simply amazing,i loved it and felt lost when i had to come back home.I was a crazy young kid making my first trip as only a 12 year old back in the 70's.It is good to see we still have gorgeous clean water in 2020. These sceneries and places you visit will be memories that last a lifetime.I was crazy i used to trip around on a bike doing 30+ miles a day and got to see all sorts of places and people. It's really nice yo ucan travel around with yoru family member "sister" most people would never do this as siblings tend to go their own way and do their own thing.I have the lasting memories of having also done all this with my family. For MANY years 20/30 + i longed to go back to the west coast but never did return...sigh.So all my memories are from way back in the 70's-early 80's.

Mike, most of this video you made is close to my heart. I had just purchased my first car in 1979, and I took a cross-country trek in May 1980 from here in Cornwall ( Eastern Ontario ), to Edmonton, where my sister lived; on to the Rockies; down to Victoria, and back. Definitely, the Icefields Parkway from Jasper to Banff, with all the stops inbetween was so memorable, and your video brought most everything front and centre again! Of particular note was your swim in Lake Louise. My intentions in 1980 were much like yours except I was going to rent a canoe and paddle towards the Victoria glacier which you've shown in the distance, but I had 1 surprise as I crested the path that led from the parking lot to the hotel: there was still ice on the lake in late May! So I was delighted to see you dive into what I'm going to say was probably water with a temp. of 11 - 14 deg. ( based on the date you posted this video ) ! I do hope you went on Hwy. 1A, just west of Banff, at the Kicking Horse pass, where the North American Continental Divide is situated, along with Divide Creek, which has an East branch that eventually runs into the Atlantic ocean through Hudson's bay, and a west branch that ends up in the Pacific ocean. Sorry I've been long-winded but I'm sure as you acquire more moments under your belt with your excellent presentations, you too will be able to call up memories like I've done with your help. You're almost 34 now and almost in the blink of an eye you'll be 50. So live, live, live. You, and the people you keep close to your heart deserve you. I'm a happy bystander though!

Not even half of a Albertans would ever agree to a separation so it’s never going to happen as not even a quarter as of now would agree. 2.You’d need government approval and that will never happen, after the Quebec referendums the federal government passed certain laws that inhibits future ideas similar to Quebec’s making them extremely difficult to have and you’d need a very large majority of the country to agree. 3. The indigenous peoples within Alberta would never agree as they know Alberta itself is conservative meaning it isn’t as active with the preservation, cooperation, and environmental goals of the Indigenous as per say a liberal government, so alone the indigenous peoples would not allow it, meaning the federal government would never allow it. 4. You have to be dumb to actually think that this would be in any way beneficial, you would lose all Canadian ownerships, bye Free healthcare, something a conservative government most likely won’t give you, goodbye Canadian passport, one of the best passports in the world, goodbye global trade and allies, since Alberta is inland its trading partner will be primarily US and Canada, Canada isn’t going to be fond of Alberta if you leave meaning you will most likely not trade a lot with them. Canada is ranked in the top 5 best countries in the world, depending where you look it can be #2, so it boggles my mind why you would wanna leave. Make sure you hire a swim instructor and don’t try to teach yourself - that’s how you drown. Most pools have adult swimming lessons

As someone who lives in Calgary (closest major city to Banff if I am not mistaken,) I honestly love Banff and am grateful for being able to live near it. If anyone wants to go to somewhere beautiful, take my advice and come to Banff. You won't regret it and it will be one of your best trips, guaranteed.

I just moved from Ontario and have been living in Banff for a month , I spent a month in BC and a month in Lake Louise. Banff is stunning. Just went for a walk to the river and grabbed myself timmies and walked past a family of Elk . I think personally Lake Louise is a one time visit - Emerald Lake, Morraine Lake, and Maligne Lake are on my bucket list ! Same sun Hostel has a pub called The Beaver which is amazing !

I travel to Jasper for library conferences every few years.; While I am continually awed by the landscape and nature, I am always struck by how much the Columbia Icefield has retreated. Noticeably each trip. My parents took me there as a kid, and took pictures of me on the field from the road. That same spot is now gravel. it is, in so many ways, very frightening.
