Canadian Avalanche Rescue Cat Association

CARCA has been hard at work since Steve Ruskay first decided to stand up to the dog dominated establishment. We now have teams on 4 continents and coverage in most of the major mountain ranges with more teams being activated as fast as we can train them. With demand for Feline rescue teams at an all-time high we thought it would be a good time to look back at our humble beginnings and remind ourselves what is possible when you combine vision and passion.

Saw this video for the first time at the Banff Film Festival at Cal Tech. That was a couple years ago and I'm still telling people about it. We tease our cats- "you want to be a CARCA kitty?" Very funny, very clever! Thanks for the laughs!

I think those red dot laser thingies should be added to the standard safety wear for all skiers. It would give the cats something else to home in on. Also, maybe roll yourself in smelt before skiing? The particular fish odour you chose could rapidly become a fashion statement (Dude, swordfish, really? That's, like, not even last season, dude. You ride ahead.)
