14:51 - that moment when the kid in white shirt pulled her hand to bow down and with a gesture of touching his forehead, is actually a Filipino way of showing respect to elders and at the same time the kid asks for blessings. That gesture of showing respect is called "Mano", younger members of the family often exhibit this gesture of respect to elders, not necessarily to old relatives, but to anyone who is older than them.

I love that the young man was trying to get your blessing by taking your hand and placing it on his forehead (It is a sign of respect in our culture. The younger person would say "Mano po" and the older person gives his/her hand.) I couldn't help but giggle a bit when you got surprised and probably thought he would actually kiss your hand. 😁💗 You have well-mannered nephews and nieces! Such a beautiful journey. Rain is indeed a sign of God's blessing! If it had not rained, you would not have taken shelter at the housing office and from there you found more and more people to help you find your relatives. Just a trivia, Tondo is one of the oldest town in the Philippines. Dating back with Lakan dula. King of Tondo and more rajas who lived there before Spanish came. Then in the 1900s where Tondo was a center of Trade where this was a place of millionaires where a lot of businessmen resided there and was like a Forbes park of today's in the society. Circa 60s to late 70s where TOndo became notorius from gangsters. These people came from different provinces who mixed with the Tondenas. If you remember the La Tondena factory now defunct was a maker of lapad or markang demonyo gin was located in Tondo. Fyi.

I PITY the countless millions of younger generation who’ve never experienced this simple joyous part of growing up, because they were always inside on video games or on their cell phones, missing out on REAL life. There are also millions of young people now who’ve never learned to ride a bike for the same reason. A tragedy for humankind.

Tondo has a rich history because back in pre colonial times Tondo is actually a kingdom ruled by a Rajah. However after World War 2 when Manila was decimated, people flock to Tondo from all places in the Philippines. While it is not dangerous, I have to say that it is overly populated. In social constructs psychology, the more people you have , the less resources for people to have access to. I believe it's science that needs no convincing.

Hmm… it depends which part of Tondo. In our part, kids can do that just fine but there are dangers lurking around … or at least back then. But in the opposite side of Tondo (relative to our section), there are no kids outside but it's safer in that part. The dangers are also not what most people assume (like pickpockets; or beggars who will stab you if you don't give anything; or some gang; or frat [I'm not saying those doesn't exist]), it's age-old family/clan rivalries as well as intense business competitions … the ones people usually dismiss as "it only happens in movies". Not sure if it still is the same to this day, hopefully it is better. ;)

Guys, this particular video can be an episode called "Touched by Angels". From beginning to end, it was faith that brought Bianca to her relatives in Tondo! How awesome is that! FYI, the district of Tondo, Manila comprises of 996 barangays, it is quite large, populated, consisting of alley ways, a maze of buildings that look similar to each other, and for you to find it like that, is truly remarkable. I got emotional watching you guys, no foolin'. Michael, you were right about the Hey Joe reference, and as you know 90% of Filipinos love USA, and 100% love Canadians. the 10% of haters live in West Mindanao ( facts ) The Red 3 KKK you saw on the wall is one of 9 original flags of the PH, circa late 1800's The leader of the rebels vs. the Spaniards on the wall you saw is Andres Bonifacio, born in Tondo, very near where Bianca's relatives live, near Tondo High School, that is also the school where now ex mayor Isko Moreno went to school as well. He is the ultimate rags to riches person everyone admires, especially in Tondo, where he was born, and grew up just like the kids you see on the streets. Now, I can't wait to see July 10th's episode, it will be emotional for everyone, including your viewers. Take care guys.

Funny enough I was in the Philippines in 1997. How time flies! I'm a Canadian living in Vancouver, I retired in Jan 2022 from full-time work just working 2 days a week currently and plan on full-time retirement with the P.I. at the top of my list. Bianca's cousin's children would be her first cousins once removed but my cousins children call me uncle as well.

Damn lots to unpack here, not to mention the heavy rain. Hey Joe is a remnant of WW2 American occupation where locals called the erstwhile colonizers/liberators as Joe thus "Hey, Joe". More importantly, happy for Bianca that she was able to locate her family tree in Tondo of all places 🌲

First of all, congratulations finding your relatives! ^_^ Definitely an awesome and memorable experience for you guys. A little tid bit re: Tondo, since the ancient times, to the colonial era, to today the modern era, Tondo (its original territorial size) may have been superceded by "Maynila", it's purpose, identity, trading center, and being the "capital", remains the same. If the rulers of the pre-colonial "kingdom" of Tundu were alive today, they'll be amazed how their kingdom still stands, at least symbolically, to this day with most of its original territories still under it, and it still is the center of commerce and the capital.

Hello Bianca and Michael. Welcome to the Philippines! This country is also your home because Bianca's mom was born here. I came across your video, and I am so glad to watch it. It made me teary-eyed seeing how you weathered the rain to find Bianca's family. Not too many people get to experience this and it is just so amazing! I was born in Sta. Ana, Manila, and those that are born in Manila are called " Batang Maynila" 😊 I will watch your other videos here, and have subscribed to your youtube channel. God bless you and enjoy living in the Philippines 😘💕

I’m from Eastern Samar and we all have our own well known identity “waray waray “ are matapang, brave and will not backdown from a fight. I probably will get lost around Tondo. Nice for Bianca in finding her relatives “when heaven pour it rained with blessings.”

You don’t have to say “Dangerous Neighborhood” it’s a “Friendly Neighborhood”, Filipino People are Friendly.

That's why there's a question mark. Also it's Tondo, when you say dangerous city Filipinos will immediately think of Tondo. It makes it a more recognizable and catchy title, I clicked because I knew it was in Tondo.

She is a lovely and beautiful person . You are lucky to have her! Keep it up and Good Luck on your Journey, God Bless!

Look at the clouds when you go out of the hotel. There is always a warning sign telling you that it will be a rainy day. Bring umbrella if you think that it will rain. Though I do admit that in this endeavor, forgetting to bring an umbrella was instrumental in finding Bianca's relatives. We are indeed guided by invisible forces and we just have to go with the flow. Everything indeed happens for a reason.

The 2 male children of her cousin are her nephews (not second cousins) :-) Such a nice reunion! Rain was providential and that woman with the umbrella was so generous of her time showing you the way. Wow! So touching! They were meant to be reconnected!

Hey "Joe" is like calling a common name to a male foreigner that they don't know the name. I believe it was originated from the US troops (G.I. Joe) that lived here back in the day.

That's exactly why/how people are victimized, not just in Tondo, but anywhere else in the world. Be aware, be careful, but not to the point of looking uptight and aloof esp in dealing with locals. Act normally, always be respectful. That's still the safest way to go around...anywhere.

@@algrand52 correct. But some just stereotyping tondo or manila in general. Whatever it is, take it with a grain of salt.
