Happy 90th Birthday to you Oliver Jones. Listening to you and your stories reminded me of Clarence Becton, a drummer from Buffalo Mississippi. He lived here in Amsterdam ( Netherlands ). Unfortunately he passed away in 2022. He was 88 years old and we were friends for 25 years. He played with Woody Shaw, Thelonius Monk, Earl Hines, Pepper Adams, Hadley Caliman and many more. He was the inspiration of my live and I loved to sit down with him and listening to his stories. He made some albums with Benny Bailey who lived in Amsterdam too. Happy Birthday Mr. Oliver Jones! I am a pianist who was well beyond lucky to play on three grand pianos at the Power Center in Ann Arbor, MI with Mr. Jones and Jay McShann, probably around 1990. They were both absolutely a joy to be with, and we’re very kind and careful to never throw any curveballs at me- 2 gentlemen giants of the jazz piano tradition, and one grateful kid! I’m so happy to know you are well, being celebrated, and still playing! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I get chills listening to you, and I think of the National Film Board of Canada's studio moment for Martine Chartrand's short film Black Soul. When I heard the traditional African part of our music with Lilison and your jazz part for the soundtrack of this great short film...wow! It was magical! Big hug Oliver! Happy Birthday to you! brilliant.. 'I mostly play classical now' then proceeds to play pure jazz that just happen to be using classical notes.. and the smile on the interviewers face when he turns to play the last piece is classic..
