In 2016, Kraft changed its recipe again, removing artificial preservatives and dyes and replacing them with paprika, annatto, and turmeric. The new mac and cheese also doesn't use artificial preservatives.

As a Canadian, I have eaten a lot in my life of kraft dinner and the taste always varies a little depending on the amount of milk / cream and butter / margarine... I add according to the consistence of the KD... some people add slices of kraft cheese... My favorite recipe with kraft dinner. I take 4 boxes of KD, 1 jar of Tostitos salsa and a pack of 4-5 chicken breasts that I cut into small pieces to put in the macaroni.... remains more than to taste

Now i'm craving mac and cheese, but i usually melt the butter first then mix in the noodles to get the butter on every piece before adding the cheese and milk. I use less milk than the instructions, and add in some pasta water. That usually makes it a lot creamier, its a very simple hack for it. I also add some extra cheese, usually whatever's in the fridge, right i have gruyere, gouda, white cheddar and aged cheddar shredded up, easy to just have in tupperware and sprinkle on whenever. Sometimes I'll put breadcrumbs or crutons on top for some added crunch.

I’ve honestly always made Kraft dinner with the US butter/margarine amounts. It’s how I learned to make it when I was young and I never noticed the box change?? So I guess it used to be the same amounts

in Canada it definitely used to be 1/4 cup milk & 3 tbps butter but then they healthy-fied it a while ago and lowered the butter!!!! Like you I've been making it from memory since before they changed it, but I eventually went down to only 2 tbsp of butter before it felt properly balanced 🤷‍♀ Would be so curious to know what they thought of each with even amounts of butter, especially since the Canadian one has actual cheddar in it haha

I’ve had both and prefer the American one. Love KD but Kraft Mac and Cheese just has more flavour. Due to the tough food laws here in 🇨🇦, find our food can sometimes taste bland. And anything with flavour seems to disappear. Awesome vid, Sean and glad you guys got home safe! 😃😎

The butter to milk ratio is the problem with KD. People say it used to taste better, but that was when they put more butter and less milk. I still follow the American instructions that we used to have in Canada.

I stopped eating the Kraft Mac and cheese cause it just doesn’t taste the same as I remember. Switched to Annie’s and enjoy their brand so much more. Question? Do you like Banana pudding? Like the one with nilla wafers? I have a recipe for you to try if you do. Bananas are like coconut for some though that’s why I ask first.

It really comes down to preparation. Try whipping up a batch of KD using the cheese powder it comes with, but use the Mac and Cheese instructions and vice versa. You'll be surprised by the results. Aside from adding salt to the water, my personal preparation of KD (Hello from Alberta, Canada BTW! ) is kind of in between. I use 2 Tbsp. of butter with about 2.5 ounces of milk (somewhere between a 1/4 and a 1/3 of a cup of milk). It tastes way different than if you prepare it from the instructions on the box.

If you want to enhance the flavour use heavy whipping cream instead of milk! (Yes Ik you’ll add more calories) but doing this once in a blue moon won’t hurt !! It’s delicious!!!!!!

The difference is the amount of butter being added. American instructions tell you to add 4 tablespoons! Which is 4 times as much as the Canadian instructions which call for only 1 tablespoon. 4 tablespoons of butter is a crazy amount -- way too much!!
