@@charsback The US is unsafe as we have mass shootings every day. And the gun rights as per our Constitution are more important than the innocent elementary school children murdered by a 20 year old with a automatic weapon. Mass shootings as far back as 2014 when 273 Americans killed whereas just in 2023, 632 people killed by mass shootings. No resolution in sight. And why Mexico and mostly other countries are being considered as alternate "safer" places.

Lets talk objective FACTS vs how you feel. Its about murder rate per capita. How many murders to 100,000 people is the world standard. Most lists go by cities of the world murder rate per capita. They do this because population varies vastly by country so it makes no sense to compare the total death of the US with 300+ million vs Finland with 5 million. 4 US cities make the top 100 (St Louis, Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago) but you have about 20+ cities of Mexico making that list. Then there is the list by country where Mexico is top 5 and US is not in the top 20.

MY ADVICE TO ALL AMERICANS STAY OUT MOVE TO PANAMA OR THE PHILIPPINES
@vital4644_6 ай бұрын

The philippines sorta mold into America ideas. México is the wild west. There's a youtu.ber "negrito grande" he can testify to what i speak of. Mexicans have a different understanding of life doesn’t matter what skin color you have. Afro American victim mindset doesn't fit in Mexico, while we do have all the same issues in Mexico as in the United States, daily life is more important to think about. Also Mexicans are sorta getting tired of foreigners moving in to mexico and try to humiliating locals. Seen that happen too many times. Never ends well. Russia had to disclaime an apparent Russian citizen due to his constitution to ww2 German ideology. In general Mexico will cancel anyone who looks down on them. Mexican artists have been canceled by society, too.

She refused to give them the wedding rings, she told them she was happy with the life she led and they could do whatever they want to her but to let her family go. Thankfully her tenacity amused them and they let them go with their rings. In CDMX my uncle was sadly murdered because he came out of Fuentes De Pedregal in a Mercedes Benz suv. He was taking off his seatbelt and they thought he was pulling out a gun. I have also had family kidnapped in Tamaulipas and in CDMX. Although bad things can happen anywhere, the fact that so many of these things like fake police, fake checkpoints, obstructing roads, tollbooth takeovers, etc... are so widespread and common that you have to mention them says a lot. Thanks for the info. Perhaps driving all the way down to Queretaro from the states isn't such a good idea.

She was a Canadian living in Zipolite Oaxaca for many years. She was driving back to Canada. Queretaro is about a 13 hour drive from Zipolite which means they were just over halfway to the Texas border. I assume they were attempting to drive none stop.
@corndog94826 ай бұрын
@@25Soupy The distance from the Texas border (Laredo) to Queretaro still requires at least one stop, especially if I try to avoid driving at night. I don't want to risk it, especially because I would be driving an Acura MDX (it's not a "fancy" car, but still, it's on the slightly nicer side), plus a 6ft trailer filled with belongings. The trailer would make it next to impossible to make aggressive evasive maneuvers if I had to. Am I over-thinkning this? I just read through forums regarding safety along this route (85D to 57, stopping at Las Palmas Hotel along the way), and it seems people are saying it's safe if I stop driving before 2pm, but then I read other reddit threads saying that I should prepare to get jacked and lose my car and belongings at the very least, or risk my life at worst.

@tabacum26 ай бұрын
How long ago was this? I have driven all over Mexico and only had pleasant encounters with police. Much nicer than US police. A couple older American friends complained about being taken advantage of by corrupt cops, but in both cases after listening to the full story both had committed a traffic offense and both Americans initiated the bribe offer in order to avoid inconvenience. Not to say some cops won’t try to shake down naive (especially older) Americans, but Mexico has been cracking down on such corruption. The biggest expense of driving across Mexico is the insane tolls.

@tabacum26 ай бұрын
@@jennyhammond9261I was responding to the Costa Rica comment, but nice to hear you confirm my experience. I am NOT fluent, but even knowing some basic Spanish does help. Even more important is learning the traffic laws, which are a bit different than in US. My only offense in Mexico was a parking ticket. Had to go to the station at end of the officer’s shift to pay the fine (to a separate cashier, NOT the cop) and retrieve my license plate. On first try I arrived too early and the cop hadn’t returned from patrol with my plate, so had to come back within a 15 minute time frame just before the station closed, or wait until the next day. In places that get a lot of tourists the police know that an American on vacation is not going to be patient enough to go through the correct process of paying the fine and maybe missing a flight or at least wasting a day of precious vacation, which can make them a tempting target. Nice to see Quintana Roo address this by allowing tourists to get off with a warning for minor offenses.

So weird for you to mention the 'free road'. We used to drive on the free roads sometimes in the 80's and the 90's. The only reason we would ever drive on the pay roads was because it was faster. Now you cant even know you would be safe on the pay roads. Gosh..I know this crap happens all over the world but..Im rethinking about Mexico and have been for a few years now. I just dont want to be in Europe in a country in the EU. The treatment of the citizens during the sickness was horrific. You all know it's gonna happen again and I dont want to be trapped. Even in Mexico the mask mandate was just lifted in late 2022. Eastern Europe is looking better and better, if it just wasn't for that snow.

Driving at night on Mexican highways has always been discouraged. Ask any Mexican, the biggest risk is crashing at highway speeds into a horse, cow or other livestock that is loose and around the roads. That is the greatest risk you face. Buses have this issue, but they can withstand the impact and you should be wearing your seatbelt.

I was paranoid for two days, but eventually I realized that 99% of people are just normal citizens who will not do any harm.
