Many manufacturers do this for production cominallaty of parts and cost as various small boats and classes have HP limits, by simply changing a few parts, ie carb, prop, bingo, you have cut costs and satisfied customers and regulatory bodies alike.

Some have a restrictor plate between the carb and air box. Also you will have to upgrade the electronic box which is pricey.

You don,t need "Yamaha oil" but if a full or semi synthetic castrol MObil 1 etc it works just as good , maybe better because you can buy high quality. 9,8 Tohatsu here 2021 mod. But my recent was a 25 4 stroke Tohatsu, full synthetic oil, lasted 12 years with no issues and use year round.

I understand the Yamaha 4hp amps up to a 6hp, the 8hp amps up to 9.9hp, and the 15hp amps up to a 20hp simply by upgrading carb jets. Very simple exercise on the 4hp.
@RussellHoughton2 жыл бұрын
Don't buy the 8 thinking you're getting a 9.9. Onc did this with the 9.9 and 15. Only real difference is the carb. (Not the jets like some think). You just end up with a bunch of extra weight.

Hello! Thanks for the video! you seem familiar with yamaha engines. Do you have any idea of the difference in power and drive between a T9.9 and a 20hp model?

He have a "Light version 212 ccm carbed version of a 9,9.38kg The "heavy version is 362 ccm and 51 kg, that is a bit heavy but big displasement and carburated engine. Here comes the interesting, you can get a Tohatsu MFSsport thrust 15 EFI at 43 kg and 333 ccm , if want the light version a 209 EFI at 38,5 kg is coming. I have the old 2021 9,8 carb at 37 kg on a 10 feet plastic boat. A good engine but i think the new is something else. Better torquee etc. In this class it,s a jungle but mercury "light 9,9 EFI" is a tohatsu Yamaha give big dispalsement in the class, but a bit old teck with carbs but for some carbs are a good option. All types are good but i like Tohatsu, they are a reliable run about application and i live with a lake using it much out in fjords. I got that 25 EFI before, that is a extremely good engine. Tohatsu 526 ccm EFI 3 cylindered 4 stroke, no replased by a 500 ccm 3 cylindered 4 stroke. All others are 2 cylinders.Even the yamaha 25 with 432 ccm By tuning up a already existing engine, it,s not extremely much to gain but a bit moore top speed. My 9,8 it,s a "tuned up 8" and so on. But if go EFI /bigger displasement,i think it,s clear that gain efficensy and torquee. The MFS 9,8 Tohatsu is in USA still sold and Mercury take the EFI light 9,9 that is a Tohatsu under the hood. Have a good spring and summer from Norway=)

The 8hp has a 40mm stroke & 197cc displacement whereas the 9.9hp has a 43mm stroke & a 212cc displacement. Hence the extra horsepower in the 9.9hp. This video comparison is therefore incorrect & misleading.

Only pre 2014? For 2015 and on both the 8 and 9.9 are 212cc. Absolutely correct the only difference is the carburator

@@petermiller8634that's true for older models Want to say pre 2022. Post 2022 they are same block. The 15hp is the only unique block now because the 20-25hp share block. Where as in past 15-20hp where same. The two strokes 9.9-15 are the same. Yes they still make em
