Those little propane canisters CAN be refilled, though the process of doing so may not be totally safe. Check KZbin for instructions on how to do it. Love your videos and agree with almost everything you say except when it comes to killing animals.l have stashed enough food and supplies and have the means to store and purify water. Enough for self and pets as well as daughter and family for the next five years. At 73 I have not eaten meat since the age of seven and don't plan to change now! Even on Social Security it is possible to afford all the food, supplies and equipment a person needs, and that includes generators, solar power and prescriptions as well as an INR machine and strips from eBay. If I can do it, there is no excuse not to!

Being a mechanic I will warn yall about topping off fuel tanks. Thats fine BUT when it clicks off don't try to squeeze in more because it will back up into your charcoal canister and cause the carbon to break down and contaminate your EVAP system causing very expensive repairs.

I was in Fort McMurray AB in 2016 and was evacuated at the last minute (like everyone else in the city). Luckily I had enough fuel in my vehicle to get me to Athabasca. Hundreds of others did not, and were stranded on the side of the highway for a day or more. It is amazing how quickly a localized fuel shortage can happen!

All people , during that time was told to evacuate, meaning to leave Fort McMurray. . in the resulting evacuation, many vehicle was stranded on highway usually out of fuel situation , luckily away from the fire. - - - . . . . tc 289 was lucky he has enough fuel for the evacuation trip to athabasca, a trip distance somewhere around 300kms.

Go to FEMA.Gov and Download the Civil Defense plans on building a Wood Gasifier, it's the only way to ensure a long term gas solution, once built out of common steel materials, that may be laying about in your back yard. It's a huge download, and I suggest you print it off at the Library, for it will eat about 3 black ink jet cartridges. Once printed it will look about as thick as phone book. It's quite useful info, and even talks about connecting it to a car/truck. Expect that we'll see more lock downs, more 1984 on steroids, more riots and the possible collapse of the USA. This is a very useful video. I live in an apartment, so storing fuel safely is a major concern. So far we have maybe a 1 mo supply of food, and 2-3 weeks of water. The only fuel I store is gas in the vehicles, small propane bottles for camping, and charcoal. Should be enough for a minor emergency. We had a trial run in 2011 during the "Great Southwest" blackout and very few of the neighbors were prepared. I was able to help some of the senior citizens and traded coffee,soup, and cigarettes for some 'C' cell batteries for the radio!

You see the long lines for gasoline not only after natural disasters but also after political/economic disasters such as socialism. My country has an abundance of petroleum, but ironically we have a shortage of gasoline. To fill my tank, I have to start lining up the night before at the gas station, and I live in the main city. In other parts of the country, there is no gasoline, and people park in line for days, with different relatives taking turns staying there and sleeping in the car. Greetings from Caracas, Venezuela.

The dual fuel generator, the Champion, is an awesome tool. During hurricane Michael we were without power for a month. We ran that thing day in and day out with no problems. It kept a large freezer, a large refrigerator, all the lights and several fans going without issue.

I've used the big-daddy Mr. Heater. In Wisconsin a winter, it heated my 3-season 8-person tent up around... 40 degrees F at around 60-70% capacity. It was more than enough for me to camp out in the cold. It also comes with an air-quality sensor and knock-over protection, so pretty decent unit.

After the crash in 2008, I learned how to run a gas motor on wood(gas).....its not easy, but you can do it if you need to. (wood splitter, generator- larger engines.)

Another good item you can add to your prep is a propane adapter that runs about $12 that enables you to gravity feed propane from your 5 gallon to your smaller 14 oz. Cans also a shrader valve remover helps in filling faster by releasing some air from small can.

I know from experience that in a dry environment (such as the high desert), firewood can last for over 15 years without any kind of overhead cover. With a roof overhead it could probably last at least 25 years.

People ridiculed Jeb Bush for making it mandatory for gas stations in Florida to have their pumps hooked up to a generator.... The gas stations got a 100% rebate on their purchase and when the hurricanes hit there was gas but no stop lights.

A year after katrina in biloxi in a destroyed shell station dude was hand pumping out of the underground tanks. Water intrusion? Let it seperate... or mix with good gas. In the navy we were taught oil gas mixture gets diesel i forget ratios. On my boat i have 4 fuel source for cooking jet boil, propane, alcahol, wood in my bbq. "Heet" those little yellow gas additive bottles, the van life guys claim is the best alcahol for stoves.3 for propulsion. Sailboat, so first is obvious diesel and outboard bracket if needed. Firearms? Rock out with you're glock out. Ar with red dot and scope also iron. All zeroed with marks for quick swap if needed on rails. Stay safe guys.

Great informative video CP. Thanks for that! I love my Diesel car. Here in central Europe almost 50% of cars run on Diesel. It is also commonly used for heating since natural gas is not available in many parts. About 30% of houses are heated by oil. All of those houses have a tank that holds several thousand liters of diesel. That's another big plus for Diesel. Some of the old Mercedes truck engines (no turbo charger or anything) will run on basically any kind of oil. Pour in diesel, sunflower seed oil, rapeseed oil or even up to 10% gasoline. They will run just fine and pretty much forever with low maintenance.

We heat our home with Kerosene. Done this for years and our heat is OFF-Grid, meaning we have heat regardless of the environment!

@rampage vented outside is ideal but not absolutely necessary. modern kerosene heaters are rated for a high level of efficiency. as long as you don't put it in a room closed off real tight you should be fine. the main issue with burning things like this is ensuring adequate oxygen so you don't produce carbon monoxide. if you are using it to heat a 1000sqft area and you crack one window a little bit you'll be fine. if you have an older house that isn't super-duper tight, you wouldn't even have to do that

Great video. FYI - I recently came across another cool fuel source that you didn't mention. There is a guy on KZbin that has a small commercially built biogas bladder that collects methane from a composting pile. He was using this methane gas to cook and for heating or some other purpose. I thought that was a great idea. It is definitely a product worth checking out.

You can buy bottles of refill gel for the small metal alcohol canisters, or there are other ways to fill them with alternate improvised methods like cotton balls and rubbing alcohol, so they don't have to be one-and-done. I don't use charcoal briquettes very often, but I'll buy bags of it when the price is right to have an alternate cooking heat source. Shop around to get the best propane prices; instead of at a gas station, I have found the best price at a local hearth & stove store. Even though my dad lived in an apartment, he loved using his kerosene heater because it gave off a "more natural" heat. It took a lot of convincing to get him to stop that practice. It was dangerous, it was counterintuitive to have a heat source that required windows to be open to let in cold air. Plus, it made his whole apartment and the clothes he wore smell like diesel.

Cheaper to heat dry air than wet air, encouraging air exchange even in the winter helps prevent mold and mildew as well, if you're.getting small from your heater you're generally using too low a grade of fuel (water clear K-1 or Jet-A from the airport for indoors) or the heater is improperly maintained or adjusted.

If your woodburner has firebrick in the bottom (which it should), you can throw in one or two pieces of coal in with your wood when you load it up and get significantly more btu's out of your stove.

Or you can install a multi fuel stove and pretty much burn whatever you want in it (wood, coal, pellets, peat, even compressed coffee grounds) the list goes on 👍

Excellent as always. An odd item that others MIGHT be interested in is the Coleman dual fuel camp stove, it uses normal liquid cooking fuel or GASOLINE. To me gas will be on hand more than cooking fuel. Hard to get used to the fear of an explosion but if it was not safe it would not be sold by Coleman. It works great and without any odor at all, mostly because it vaporizes the fuel then burns it. It’s priced high at about $75 but I really like it and being able to be cooking in minutes with high temps for water, use indoors, with a 1/4th of a cup of gasoline it’s worth the price. I have a kerosene, wood and electric stove and the dual fuel works the best. *I know it’s not for everyone, I had to think practical and get used to the idea.

My Dad ran a small engine repair for many years. In the spring people would bring in there lawn mowers etc. that wouldn't start. The most common problem was fuel left in the tank! Goes stale, loses it's octane, and leaves a coating of shellac in the carburetor, needing a rebuild. Never leave fuel in the tank of your generators etc. And use a fuel stabilizer, for your stored fuel. About firewood, it will actually keep for years, but you have to keep it off the ground, and dry. Good stout pallets are an excellent choice in a covered wood shed. I got several tanks of propane wrapped in plastic under my trailer as spares, in addition to my working ones that I refill as soon as they are empty.

thank you for your comments, i learn something new... i got a tin can of citronella lamp oil in storage for more than 10 yrs already. . when i purchase it then, i was thinking of using it in a lantern, like a DIETZ 80 lantern., , ,, ,but was told by others, the citronella lamp oil is only for use of torches . so it just sit in the garage rusting away. , , not rusting, it's in plastic jug...

Yea, I tried that with my F350 and had to replace the gas tanks, they were coated with sludge and the truck ran horribly for a while even after the gas tank was replace and filled with new fuel. One mor tank to replace.. use fuel stabilizer

Sea foam for gas and diesel I left a jerry can for over a year stabilized and fuel tank stabilized both left out all summer all winter coveted in rain snow all the elements only thing that could have had some sort of a saving effect was carburetor was dry but regardless everything fired up first go and I used all 20L in the jerry can not a single hiccup and for specifically diesel "howes" brand stabilizer is great CHEAP also "diesel 911" is a great to have on the side if you live in real cold climates as it will jell

Fuel supply is going to be a big problem with the grid down. You can only empty so many gas stations before there's nothing left, and the problem with EVs is that they usually have so much tech in them that they could also be a liability.

Synthetic Fuel is very simple to make you simply Distill Sawdust distill the vapour and you have Methanol basically the same stuff as Surgical Spirit but do not drink or you will go Blind it destroys the Optical Nerve and there's no cure you are Blind.

I have converted a pickup truck and a farm tractor to propane , generators, Instant on hot water, cooking, emergency back up heat, and over the last 16 years have bought, buried and filled a network of tanks totaling somewhere over 68,000 pounds of propane. (about 17,000 gallons). VERY RURAL no restrictions, property has 4 springs 2 large ponds, rivers, Forrest, tillable and pasture. When and if the time comes.*

Use pure gasoline (also called clear gas) instead of gas with ethanol. Add some stabilizer and you're good to go for quite a while if you store it properly. I'd recommend doing this once a year just to be safe. Let your vehicles gas tank get low then fill it up with the stored fuel and repeat. Never had a problem doing it this way.

Thanks. If you'd like to use bio-diesel fuel it can be done. One of my classmates researched it and made some in his home. There are steps that need to be followed, a few products used to make it like HEAT that is sold in auto parts stores, a blender mixing part, and waiting periods. It seemed doable for a common person to make it. If he could do it, seems like it wouldn't be that hard.

A handy fuel thats free that nature provides is from trees pine pitch. Gathering it up and storing it with your fire kit is a good plan . golf ball size pitch ball burning in a tin can can save your ass on a cold night , if your tenting it or just laying on our Sacred Mother Earth for a night. Always remember home is where you lay your head.

Get some VP Racing fuel comes pre “prepped” pretty expensive but also adds HP to pretty much anything you stick it in! Has a 2 year shelf life is stored properly even when opened, ethanol free and great for little generators!

I have dual fuel Colman stove, it uses Colman fuel or gasoline. I have a 2 burner LP gas stove. I have something that you may like get. A distribution tree. It goes on and 20 or 30 lb LP gas tank. It has 2 fitting on the sides that I can use for things like the gas stove or other things, it also has a place on top for a gas lantern. So with a light on top and a 12 foot hose to the gas stove I can have light and cook. ( outside or very well ventilated place) I have a stereo stove and some of the gel fuel cans for it , also have some small cans that fit in the stove with wicks that can burn vegetable oil or alcohol. I don't have much trouble keeping warm. I live in Florida! But I learn new ways of doing things each time there is a Hurricane! I did learn more from your video. We must keep learning new ways to do things! THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEOS!
