You might want to get one or more extra microSD cards for it. 16 or 32GB is probably good. That way you can have your school projects on one microSD card and use the other cards for personal projects. It can help to get different brands (SanDisk, Samsung, Kingston, etc...) to help you keep track of which card is which.

Yea, got my first raspi through Canakit. Good way to good for Noobs. It even has noobs...lol. But... I'm really disappointed with Cana for cranking up the price so much during this horrible shortage. I'm a capitalist and understand supply and demand. I understand that when supply is low thr price goes up to discourage sales so inventory can catch up and only those that really need it.. will buy it. However, with that said... Raspi boards aren't gasoline or potatoes. First... they were created for school students to encourage them to learn programming and interest in STEMZ field. Then, makers and tinkerers like me got a hold of them and saw the amazing potential. Even more so, businesses and industries saw thier potential and versatility years ago and they became very much in demand. Now, as I understand, Raspberry Pi foundation hasn't raised the prices, at least for retail, since late last year when I got into them. Thier production didn't decrease all that much and although they had some initial chip shortage issues they have been resolved. But, the reason for the consumer shortage still is the fact they Raspi foundation is filling business partners orders first before retail. Very understandable. These companies have stated their businesses in getting raspis and raspi foundation has a duty to honor those relationships. With all they said..... I find it responsive that retailers like Cana are jacking up prices at ridiculous percentages. They aren't paying more for them before the Corona mess! To me..,that's boarder line gouging. At minimum... it's bad ethics afaic! I won't be buying from Cana again. Oniy buy form raspi partner retailers! They shouldn't even raising prices and if they do.., not much, I got luck. I got into Raspis in Dec of last year and have 14 now. Between 4bs, Zero2Waps, a 3A. Oh.,, a few Picos but they are easy to get. Yea, I had a lot of projects lol. Don't patronize people making too many bucks off a shortage like this. It only encourages them and makes life miserable for schools and people that will actually out them to good use.

You can use something like RetroPie to play games. If you want to play around with it beyond that, I would buy a second microSD card. You can get a name brand 32GB card for around $7USD. On the second card, you could explore systems like Raspberry Pi OS, TwisterOS, LibreElec, etc... on it. You can just turn it off and swap the cards back and forth depending on what you want to do. If you want to learn programming, you could use Raspberry Pi OS and find python tutorials online or find a python for beginners book.

just got this for christmas but when i was following the instructions from the files of the sd card and it said to format it so i did and didnt realise i was suppose to extract the files before i format it so now i lost all the files

I think you can download NOOBS and just copy it to the card. www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/noobs/ You can also download Raspberry Pi Imager. You run it on your Mac or Windows computer to install a Raspberry Pi system to the SD card: www.raspberrypi.org/software/ Let me know if you have questions with this.

A blind person can't read black text on a white screen. We need white text on a dark screen. Trying to read those setup screens would be like trying to read black sharpie writing on a florescent tube bulb with the bulb turned on. Like staring into the sun, and you're not going to see the words at all. Like staring in to the sun. Dark theme all the time, every time, for visually impaired people. We couldn't use this.
