So good to see what I call real fishing. The type I was brought up with in the 50's and 60's and to this day I still fish the rivers and never fish a "commercial". I was brought up to enjoy the countryside as well as the fishing and that isnt possible on a commercial. Thanks for some great videos James.

Love this style of angling on my local stretch of the Chesterfield Canal. For me, it's far more enjoyable to catch 10lb of silverfish, using a waggler, on a narrow canal than 100lb of fish from a carp pool. Some folks don't know what they're missing by neglecting canal fishing. Well fished James and well filmed Chappie...cheers.

Couldn't agree more simple setup often overlooked satisfying day out cant get on with the pole so for me tranquillity fresh air

I agree. I dont understand how Carp Fishing can claim to be a Sport, when 95% of the Session is probably spent sitting down in a bivvy tent waiting for a bite-alarm to tell them when to reel-in the self-hooked fish. I'd prefer trying to outwit a good Roach, Perch or Tench anyday!

A beautifully presented video guys. Nice to see a different take on canal fishing rather than on the pole. Both waggler and feeder or straight lead have their uses on difficult days.

Hi James what a great video! Proper ‘old school’ fishing on the canal with running line, just what I love doing. For me, this was so enjoyable and Ian captured the beautiful scenery and atmosphere perfectly. He even managed some bird song, great stuff Ian. I have found using the link ledger fished down stream and across produces some top quality roach as well. I guess less disturbance and combined with hair rigged baits, suitably scaled down scores highly! Alas few seem to try this but more should try this. Plus it gives you a very good chance of landing those bonus carp, which bust up 0.008 hooklengths and light elastics. These video’s are so entertaining they have set a new benchmark. Kindest regards Bill

Which club owns the fishing rights to that stretch of the Canal? I joined BAA so I could fish the worcester/ birmingham Canal at Tardebigge but not found any good websites to see which clubs own the rights to which stretches or does a waterways wanderers permit give access to the canal anywhere?

It's nice to have a couple of hours early morning on the waggler but there's a good reason no canal match angler would go without a pole! Even without boats, it only takes a slight breeze mid morning onwards and the top few inches is off like the clappers.

Absolutely fantastic video james loved it nothing like early morning fishing on the canal sadly there forgotten venues now i learnt all my fishing on thee canal with my brother and uncle tench where the dominate fish then to many people go to commercials now i think people feel safe at commercials thanks guys awesome video Alien

Great video James can you help me I'm fishing a commercial with loads of Roach because they are a shy biting fish when would be the right time to set the hook I do have the waggler float dotted down I do catch them but it is hit or miss how do you know when a roach has your bait in its mouth sorry for the stupid question I know your with cadence but I use a Shakespeare agility 10 ft commercial float rod and I can't feel the bites thanks again
@cadencefishinguk5 жыл бұрын
It's a great question David! 1. Use a short hooklength say 6 inches and have a size 8 shot or maybe a Size 10 set above the knot. This is your tell tale shot. Any time a roach moves the bait this will transmit back to your float. It's mainly a question of setting the shot to gain the best bite, so long as your float is dotted down. No one hits every roach bite, but you can increase the percentage by adjusting your shotting. Chappy. Am sure James will give you further insights too.
@davidoldham15455 жыл бұрын
@@cadencefishinguk thanks for replying I normally have a no8 5 inches from the hook and 4 bulk shot number 8 just above the hook to nylon do you think I should bring the telltale shot even closer to the hook will that give me better feel

@hunter111uk2 жыл бұрын
I respect the skill in catching them, but it baffles me why anyone would be so enthusiastic about catching a Bream, I've had more fight from a clump of Weed! We over 70 Anglers choose a Float we can actually see, which is not necessarily the best for the style of Fishing!🤣
@markryan84785 жыл бұрын
This fishing needs to come back as commercials have taken over this is fishing working for the fish not in a fish pond
@cadencefishinguk5 жыл бұрын
it takes all sorts Mark, and whilst we would be inclined to share your view the reality is many anglers feel safer on private property i.e. a commercial, and that's fine. We will keep producing a mix of videos but try to stay on the 'natural path' as much as we can.
